Summary: This story takes place about 100 years after the quest of the One Ring. Even after the fall of Sauron, the foul breath of evil can still be felt on the winds of Middle Earth. Some say it is just the nature of the world, the shadow of the light. Some say it is rising and has once again become sentient. King Elessar rules with a just and even hand, but Men throughout the land are falling into darkness, succumbing to greed, hatred and violence among themselves and against the world. The Light of the Elves departs as the Eldar continue to withdraw to the West, leaving darkness in their wake.
Notes: Elves do not close their eyes during Reverie. While I have updated the sexual culture of the Eldar to reflect more modern values (and indeed the fact that I feel that such sensual and advanced beings would revel in such a pass time and consider it natural and pure), the concept that Elves can tell if other Elves have had sex actually is Tolkien's.
Chapter 16
Shu Lien eventually managed to excuse Legolas and herself from the dining area and his well-wishing friends. As soon as he was in the quiet of the halls, his face fell slightly and his shoulders rounded almost imperceptibly. She knew she had made a good decision. The confrontation with his father had represented much more to him than what had actually transpired, which in itself had been difficult enough. His grief, confusion and depression ran deep. This era of his life was coming to an end, and in some ways he was embarking on the same journey that Shu Lien herself had, and it was frightening for him. All of the weight of tattered baggage from millennia was dragging on him and it needed to be released.
She watched him sidelong as they silently walked the halls. He was desperately trying to push it all away; a serene mask fell as a curtain over his face, dulling the sparkle of his eyes. At the moment, Shu Lien knew he needed to get beyond the boundaries his conscious mind had erected, and feel his emotions. He needed to let go.
However he had had many centuries more to perfect the art of suppression.
She stopped him, turning to take both of his hands and looked into his eyes. "Let us go someplace quiet..." She suggested in a whisper, going up on the balls of her feet to place a gentle, loving kiss on his lips. He smiled softly and said nothing, but bent down to place his lips again to hers before leading her into the woods.

They reached the glade after a silent half hour walk. It was a beautiful, grassy clearing that nestled a softly singing stream. A small tinkling waterfall joined in the chorus of rushing water and exclaiming birds. The forest grew thick and nurturing around them and Shu Lien felt embraced.
This was the spot that Legolas had come to often throughout the years when he felt he could no longer go on. It offered an accepting solace, the rushing waters washing away the sting in his eyes from his fathers words and his roiling emotions. He breathed deeply, unaware of anything for a moment but the ground under his feet. All of the other occasions he had come there crowded around him and the words and actions that had precipitated each trip came back with haunting clarity, almost stealing his composure. He clenched his fists, squeezing his eyes shut a moment, trying to will his control back into place. Why did all of this bother him so much? Wasn't he beyond this?
Shu Lien watched Legolas as he wrestled with the demons of his past, trying to keep them at bay, to untangle them from his conscious mind, to push them deep within. She knew that open discussion would make him uncomfortable. To begin to speak of such things would release the deluge, and losing control was something that terrified Legolas, something Shu Lien could very well identify with. Perhaps physically releasing the stress he was enduring would calm him. He could begin to communicate with action what he was unable to with words.
Finally Legolas had forced his heart closed enough that he could turn and look at Shu Lien. To his surprise, she was standing before him, patiently, silently, at ready to spar. A small smile tugged at his mouth, he didn't know if he was in the mood, but perhaps she was right and the distraction, the release was just what he needed. These thoughts were just dissipating when she unexpectedly launched herself at him. Automatically he evaded and parried her strikes, but she continued mercilessly. Almost immediately his reticence gave way to intensity as the compulsive rise to challenge and competition took its hold. She was faster and stronger than before, and it took quite a bit of concentration to evade and redirect her movement.
As he settled into the spar, his mind quieted completely, and he moved in an unencumbered barren mental landscape that allowed his perceptions and actions to play unfettered. It was a freedom, a presence that he had never experienced and it was exhilarating. So this is what it was on the other side of her cool, still eyes?
Shu Lien watched Legolas intently. She watched his movements, his face, his breath. Opening herself completely to the pain and grief that was hidden behind the obsidian pools of his eyes. She saw something else burning in their depths. Desire. His body was whispering to hers what it needed. Legolas needed to lose control. Suddenly Shu Lien understood.
Legolas noticed something very different about Shu Lien in this match. Instead of dueling for the challenge and training, she was sparring to win. Every move and counter attack was aimed at aggressively overcoming him. Legolas found himself rising automatically to the heightened intensity of the competition.
Shu Lien watched keenly for any opening, any weakness in his defense. As an Eldar, he could easily overcome her if he so desired, having knowledge of the Mandärin technique, but he typically did not draw on his Elvish strength and reflexes in their matches. However with her slightly heightened reflexes and strength, and the intensified focus that the situation had created, she finally found her break and brought him to the ground, face down, his arm pinned behind his back.
He felt the familiar knee pressing into his side, but instead of the usual quick release from the hold, Shu Lien held him fast. Legolas was puzzled. Suddenly his breath caught and his body ignited. Her chest pressed into his back and her teeth gently grazed his ear. Her breath was moist and hot on his cheek. "Do you want me?" She asked, her voice only a whisper.
Legolas could do nothing but gasp. She released him abruptly and stood, waiting to continue the spar. In one fluid movement, he picked himself up from the grass and turned to her, his eyes black and smoldering. He breathed heavily as he watched her a moment, and then struck out without warning. He grabbed her wrists like lightning and pulled her forcefully to his chest, looking into her eyes.
Shu Lien's eyes were a darker shade of blue and they regarded him with cool appraisal as their chests heaved against one another. A slow smile crept across her face and she quickly turned her arms out through the weak point of his thumb, wrenching her hands free, and began a pivot and turn so fast that he was being thrown to the ground on his back before he had fully registered what was happening. Shu Lien straddled his stomach, hands loosely holding his arms down as she leaned over him. Never taking her eyes from his, she kissed his lips, softly, teasingly.
"You can do better than that." Her voice was merely a breath against his cheek. She quickly pushed away and stood in one motion, stilling her mind in preparation for the onslaught.
Legolas' body was burning. As he rose again, he desperately tried to control his breathing. Passion had risen so forcefully in his chest and throat that he felt like he was being choked. His erection was painful as it strained against his leggings, and he could think of nothing more than how much he wanted her.
Like a taut bow string being released, his form struck out . Shu Lien evaded and deflected seamlessly. But Legolas' was unrestrained and unstoppable. Part of him realized that his conscious mind had fled. The feeling frightened him, but he was unable to reign himself in until he had Shu Lien's warm body in his arms in a tight hold against his chest. Turning her he pushed her none too gently back up against a large tree and pinned her there. Their breaths were ragged as they regarded one another.
Legolas was experiencing nothing but unbridled lust. He fought silently with this part of him that he never acknowledged; the dark depths of his heart that were unlit by his awareness and self-control. His struggle raged in his eyes.
The small part of Shu Lien that was able to form any conscious thoughts realized this was the moment. She met his dark gaze and her lips mouthed "Let go."
The last threads of his self control snapped. He crushed his lips to hers in a bruising kiss and his thigh pushed between her legs, as he pressed her against the tree. Legolas no longer felt any fear or had any outside perspective whatsoever. His consciousness had fled and he was doing nothing but channeling the intense, demanding need of his body.
His hands moved over the curves of her body possessively and his mouth moved down to hungrily devour her neck as she gasped at the all-encompassing power of the sensations assailing her body. He began to roughly pull at the draw strings of her pants and soon he was pushing them down over her hips. He had to break the ravishment of her neck and collarbone to push the pants down all the way and she barely could help him by stepping out of them and her soft shoes, she was so drowned in passion. He slid up her body, pressing her back to the tree and claimed her mouth ravenously again, his body never leaving hers as one hand impatiently pulled at his own drawstring while the other held her bare hips to him. Releasing his aching erection from its confines, he began to lift her so that he could bury himself within, but opened one eye and regarded the rough bark of the tree and changed his mind.
He turned, pulling her with him, and pressed her into the soft grass under the tree. Shu Lien's mind was reeling; the raw unabashed lust that was coursing through Legolas was mirrored in her own eyes and she felt helpless and aching, needing him so that she just pliantly followed with a soft whimper.
He spread her willing legs with his knee and with no pause thrust into her deeply with a quiet grunt. The slight pain and excruciating pleasure of it made Shu Lien cry out. Legolas' eyes snapped open of their own accord, watching her, but her head was tilted back in passion and her arms held him tightly to her. He then surrendered to his body and began thrusting into her forcefully and deeply. A low groan in his throat joined Shu Lien's soft moaning punctuations. The tempo increased quickly and soon Legolas thought his chest would explode as he pounded his body into her tightness, the pleasure fierce and suffocating in its intensity.
She Lien regarded him through slitted eyes. Legolas' brow was furrowed in seeming pain, jaw clenched, his eyes closed as he moved forcefully against her. Shu Lien reached up a hand to push a loose strand of hair from where it was plastered to the beads of sweat on his face, snaking to the back of his head where she pulled him down for a fevered kiss.
All too soon she was crying out his name passionately, arching her back as her fingers dug into the skin through his tunic and her body shuddered under him. It pushed him over the edge instantly and with one last thrust he hoarsely returned her call, falling against her as his body shook violently with his release. He felt like he had poured his entire being into her.
It took several long minutes before Legolas was able to move. The inferno of his passion felt like it had burned him to a hollow shell, leaving nothing in its wake but his tumultuous emotions.
Finally, he shakily pulled away enough from Shu Lien's neck to be able to meet her eyes. His consciousness never had a chance to return. As soon as their gazes locked, the dam broke and Legolas' face contorted in sorrow as tears began to well and run down his cheeks. He began to softly cry.
Shu Lien reached her hand behind his head and pulled him down into her shoulder again, closing her eyes as her own tears spilled in silent sympathy. Legolas' shoulders shook as he sobbed quietly into her neck, finally releasing tears that had been unshed for millennia. He clutched her to him as if she were the only thing holding him in this world.
And at the moment, she was.
