Summary: This story takes place about 100 years after the quest of the One Ring. Even after the fall of Sauron, the foul breath of evil can still be felt on the winds of Middle Earth. Some say it is just the nature of the world, the shadow of the light. Some say it is rising and has once again become sentient. King Elessar rules with a just and even hand, but Men throughout the land are falling into darkness, succumbing to greed, hatred and violence among themselves and against the world. The Light of the Elves departs as the Eldar continue to withdraw to the West, leaving darkness in their wake.
Notes: Elves do not close their eyes during Reverie. While I have updated the sexual culture of the Eldar to reflect more modern values (and indeed the fact that I feel that such sensual and advanced beings would revel in such a pass time and consider it natural and pure), the concept that Elves can tell if other Elves have had sex actually is Tolkien's.
Chapter 14
Legolas picked the delicate jasmine flowers by the light of the full moon and strung them on the silver strand patiently, softly singing to himself. He twisted the threaded flowers back on themselves to double the thickness of the rope of blossoms before tying it into a necklace.
He found Shu Lien predictably sitting in the middle of the guest house courtyard garden, brushing her hair as she inhaled the sweet scents of the evening. The cool blue light of the moon bathed her form, kissing the soft curves of her cheeks and nose, clinging to her long black hair like silver. A gentle breeze played with the strands lovingly. She was dressed in a simple white night shift with a flowing dressing gown buttoned over it. The clothes gave her an ethereal, immortal quality. She hummed under her breath an ancient and mournful song as she brushed her hair slowly. Legolas' breath caught as he watched her. Steeling himself a good long moment he walked up to her, clearing his throat softly to let her know of his presence.
Shu Lien looked up to find Legolas standing before her, looking like he was carved of pure light. The moon drained the subtle colors from his hair, skin and eyes infusing them with liquid mithril. His silky blue under tunic fluttered gently in the breeze. His perfect features were highlighted by the soft lighting and Shu Lien wondered how any being in Middle Earth could be so fair.
He held out to her a lei of fragrant flowers whose scent wafted immediately to her and washed the tumbling emotions away, and she smiled. Ahh... night-blooming jasmine. Her favorite flower. She loved this smell. Sweet and floral, but slightly earthy as well, leaving a centered taste in the back of the mouth like a fine green tea.
She gently set her brush on the bench and stood, bowing her head slightly as Legolas slipped the necklace over it, brushing a light breath of a kiss on her cheek - as was the tradition - as he straightened.
Ignoring the searing heat on her skin from the whisper of his lips, she looked delightedly down at it, pulling her hair carefully out from between the lei and her neck and letting it fall as a river down her back, the heavy strands dancing around her waist like waves. Legolas was entranced.
"What is this for?" Shu Lien smiled up at him easily.
Breaking out of his reverie, he folded his hands behind him taking a barely perceptible step backward. "A farewell, until next we meet. I leave for the Long Lake town of Dale at the request of my father tomorrow morning." Legolas said simply.
Shu Lien appraised him for a moment, surprised. "Did you not tell him that you and Gimli would be accompanying us to Rivendell?" She tried to sound impersonal.
Legolas dropped his eyes. "No I did not." he admitted, looking back up. "Gimli can still go with you, though. It is a duty that does not fall on his shoulders." Shu Lien's eyes darted absently over the ground, mouth slightly open, trying to think of something more to say. Legolas saved her by saying very quietly, "It will be better this way."
It would, Shu Lien's mind agreed, now is your chance! Turn and walk away! A frantic voice warred with her heart.
However, the thought of him actually leaving undid her and all of the emotions from the past months boiled to the surface, demanding, overwhelming. With every ounce of strength she had, this time Shu Lien stayed with her practice, staying awake and aware, and let it all rush painfully through her. She did not pull down a veil over the intense feelings ripping through her soul, did not hide from what she was experiencing and what it meant. She looked Legolas in the eyes and the tears trickled down her cheeks. She cried silently, just feeling.
Legolas was taken aback. He had not expected this reaction. The agony and grief that she had kept closely under wraps were roiling at the surface, perfectly visible. Held out to him in her eyes with no shame. Legolas, concern etched into his face, stepped forward, taking her hands in his. "Talk to me" he said simply from his soul.
Shu Lien did just that. All that had been tormenting her mind spilled forth from her lips as she opened the gates of her anguish. They sat together, side by side, on the bench. She told him of the Elvish ring, Elencálë, which had been on the ruling hand of Regent Luinhin of the Amaurëa, but that she now carried to Rivendell so that its fate in Middle Earth could be determined. She told him of the things she was shown in the Mirror of Lothlórien and described the dark and horrible images, eyes unfocused as she brought them back. She ended with the vision of him with an arrow in his back, piercing his heart. At this she crumbled against him letting the tears begin again, sobbing openly.
Legolas put a warm arm around her and smoothed her hair soothingly, thoughtfully processing all that she had told him. He was not particularly disturbed by the last image, as a warrior he had never feared death, and as an Elf knew he would eventually make his way back to the Undying Lands, but the idea of leaving Shu Lien forever struck a desperate fear in his heart. He pushed those feelings down, breathing deeply and pondered the other images, letting Shu Lien release her grief against his shoulder. She cried for those many long months of flight and death in Mordor, for the gripping fear of her failure, and for the unbearable confusion and turmoil in her heart. After many minutes, her sobs began to subside and he brought her head up to look at him.
Tenderly he said, "You have been through many mortal lifetimes of grief over these several seasons. And then these images from the Lady? It is a heavy burden for anyone to bear. I wish you had not had to endure this alone for so long." He paused thoughtfully. "Frodo told me of his encounter with the Lady and was hunted nightly for many years by the haunting images that he was shown. What I know of the Mirror is that it shows but possibilities of the endless future. There is nothing in the divination that must, without a doubt, come to pass. It is meant to inform the steps that you take on your path, nothing more." His brow was furrowed with concern and compassion.
"She said as much." Shu Lien wiped her hand across her face, impatiently smearing away the tears. "But it doesn't bring much comfort. I feel like I have a great weight of responsibility on my shoulders, but I don't even know how to bear it!"
Shu Lien looked down at her hands, "The Amaurëa saved me from an attempt on my life as an infant, but my parents perished. The death of my own parents is on my head. I could not save my shieldmates. My hands are stained red with blood. I remember when I would sorrowfully mourn the loss of a sparrow... and now I have taken enough life from this world that..." She stopped, breathing rapidly.
"The death of your parents, the death of your friends...This is not a burden for your shoulders. You did not choose your destiny." Legolas said slowly and sincerely, searching her eyes. "You have never taken a life without reason. You are one of the most honorable, skilled and dedicated warriors that I have met in my many years. There is nothing you could have done to prevent the violence you have witnessed. You have endured a grave charge and are plagued by a destiny which has not yet been made clear. Trust the path that has been laid before you and walk it in light, not looking back to the shadow of regret." The words flowed easily from Legolas' heart but broke against the hard surface of Shu Lien`s unrest.
Standing as the agitation became too great, she paced quickly back and forth, fists clenching and unclenching, finally coming to rest before him. "But, I feel so alone" she said miserably, sounding like a small child. Her tears silently overflowed once again, spilling down her cheeks.
Legolas stood slowly, his compassionate eyes locked on the woman before him. As if in a dream he reached up to cup her jaw on each side, long fingers wrapping around to rest lightly at the nape of her neck.
He tenderly lifted her face up, capturing her eyes with his. "You are not alone." He said softly, and slowly. Attentively he wiped away the tears with his thumbs.
The dizzying sensation of touching her, of feeling his fingers in her hair, of running his thumbs over her smooth cheeks, stole his consciousness and his eyes drifted leisurely down her face to her lips where they stopped abruptly.
His breath had become light and shallow in his chest. In slow motion he lowered his lips to hers. Shu Lien was hypnotized by her reactions to his warm fingers and closed her eyes languorously, lifting her chin up ever so slightly. Legolas pressed his mouth to her warm, full, soft lips and had to gasp at the all-encompassing sensual wave that washed over his body. Shu Lien moaned softly against him.
It was just enough to break into Legolas' consciousness and his eyes snapped open as he broke the kiss and jumped back.
Eyes wide, he sat down heavily. "Please forgive me." He breathed in shock, tearing his eyes from her frantically and looking down at the ground. "Please forgive me, Shu Lien." he intoned again, putting his head into his hands.
Shu Lien`s eyes were locked on him, stunned by both the kiss and its abrupt ending. "Legolas, I-" She began, her fingertips raised to her lips in wonder. It had been like a bell and, along with her attention to her feelings, had awoken her soul, making everything quite clear.
"No, let me speak while I have the courage...." Legolas took a deep breath, eyes not leaving the ground. "This is exactly why I must go... I am in love with you. I have never had to face such an emotion and I am behaving as an Elfling not yet grown. I will go to Dale tomorrow.... Please forgive my disrespect." He moved to stand, but Shu Lien sat next to him, placing a hand on his forearm, staying him.
She was silent a long moment. Legolas turned his head slightly and watched as she brought her palms together. With a little sigh Shu Lien closed her eyes and bowed her head so that her forehead touched her fingers. After a moment of stillness she thoughtfully took in a slow breath and lifted her head up gradually, so that the fingertips of her prayerful hands ran along her profile, finally resting on her chin. She released the breath she had drawn, letting her hands fall to her lap almost in resignation. Opening her eyes she turned to meet Legolas' gaze.
Shu Lien took another breath, looking deep within the blue of his eyes, and then spoke in a whisper. "Legolas, I am prepared to forsake the vows that I have taken as Mandärin for what I feel in my heart. I am in love with you as well." The words echoed strangely in her ears.
Legolas` breath caught, his eyes widening slightly in surprise, hoping that his ears had not betrayed him. She continued quietly. "I have long since been trying to release my own feelings. But - though I have tried - my heart cannot be denied. I so fear that it is my weakness. But yet I also fear that it is my weakness to cling to dogma, to the absolute, to perfection, and that, in doing so, I forsake my own destiny and the growth that is demanded of me by my soul." She smiled ruefully. Legolas put a hand on hers and she turned it over, grasping his tightly. "I undeniably yearn to be at your side and I fear what life will be for me should you leave, but we each have so much that we must relinquish to be together..."
She then paused, looking down for a moment to gather herself before meeting his eyes again. "There is something else that the Lady told me that I have not told you... It is something that I have found difficult to accept... She said that we are Tatyafëar."
"What?" Legolas breathed in disbelief. "How can that be?"
"She did not know, none can remember that this has occurred between an Elf and mortal. Could she have been mistaken? I thought it a cruel trick of fate in the least... I thought if I just put a wedge between us ...eventually all of this would fade away. I do not want to bring you pain... my mortality will only bring you suffering in the end. " Shu Lien searched his eyes worriedly, her teeth worrying her lower lip.
Legolas just laughed up to the sky, looking like it was all making sense suddenly, then turned to her and whispered through a smile, "A moment with you would be worth it all."
"But I will exist as but a breath of your life, and bring you much grief for such small pleasure afforded by my love." Shu Lien continued, her eyes liquid, distraught.
"Shu Lien. I can think of no greater pleasure than your love." Legolas' eyes caressed her face tenderly. "The worth, the significance of your love is not something to be measured by time. I have spent almost 3,000 years walking this earth and have come upon none to whom I could give my heart. I would spend a few years in bliss rather than an eternity never knowing love. If indeed we are Tatyafëar, it is written to be so. How foolish would I be to give up a blessing of joy because of a fear of pain? I know what choice I make." Legolas spoke softly, sincerely.
Then he brought his other hand to encircle hers completely. "But Shu Lien, I would not ask you to forsake your Way, your people, your peace..."
She sniffed slightly, looking down at his hands around hers, bringing her other hand to idly stroke his wrist. "It can be no other way. What is in my heart will not be ignored. I would find little peace without you. I shall find my way, but it shall be at your side. What I have to loose does not compare to that which I have to gain in the gift of your love, Legolas." She smiled and looked up at him once more.
Their gazes locked. Layer upon layer of boundaries and suppression were peeled away until they were staring into each others' souls. It was almost unbearable.
Finally, Shu Lien reached up her hand to tentatively touch his face. Her light, calloused fingers running over his prominent cheekbones, tracing his nose, outlining his silken lips, dancing down his neck.
Legolas then reached a trembling hand up to do the same, lovingly caressing her cheek, tracing her delicate eyebrows, admiring her almond-shaped eyes still liquid from her tears, running over the bridge of her nose to the sensuously rounded nostrils. He stopped on her lips, and she kissed his soft fingertips, slowly, affectionately.
Removing his hand he replaced it with his lips. Shu Lien returned his kiss with a quiet passion, marveling at the sensation of his satin skin against her mouth, the feel of his warm breath on her face, trying to quell a rising flood of heat in her body. Unconsciously she opened her lips and his tongue lightly brushed them. Figuring out what was next in this dance, she gave him permission to enter her mouth by opening further. The sensation of the deepened kiss was overwhelming and she, without thought, copied the movements of his tongue hungrily. An unfamiliar burning sensation was beginning within her stomach. She wanted to crawl into him, enfold him in her being, to become one. The kiss continued its slow and sumptuous dance, tongues exploring, as the heat continued to build.
Shu Lien noticed that his hands were conspicuously hanging at her neck, gently stroking her hair, and she realized he must be restraining himself. She unclenched her fists which were holding tightly to his tunic as all her concentration had been on memorizing the art of kissing, and began to, shyly at first, explore his chest. As his breathing quickened, she more deliberately splayed her hands across his muscular form, eliciting a soft moan against her mouth and setting his own hands in motion down her back. She ran her fingers up his long lean arms, over his hard, defined shoulders, across his contoured chest, trying to map out every detail of his taut form.
Legolas was waging a silent battle. As soon as their lips met, his body ignited without warning. The power of his passion surprised and somewhat frightened him. He must remain in control. He must be satiated by the kiss alone, he must let her make each move. His body had no sympathy for the travails of his mind and continued to escalate in its fever. When her hands began to roam his body, creating fiery paths in their wake even through his tunic, he broke the kiss to try to regain his composure. He occupied himself with placing sweet, light kisses down her neck. He found her pulse and sucked gently. Shu Lien let her head fall back, her hair dancing over his hands drifting at her waist, and moaned softly, completely absorbed in the heady sensations washing over her. He was nearly undone, wanting nothing more than to press her to the soft, sweet, earth and swiftly take her. As soon as he registered this thought, he immediately did what he didn't think he possessed the strength to do: he pulled away. Not meeting her eyes, he frantically tried to regain control of himself, his breath heaving.
Confused, Shu Lien brought her gentle hands to his face. "Legolas, what is it?" Her concern was evident as she tried to still her own breathing.
He laughed self-consciously. "Please... I need a moment to regain my composure." He met her eyes, the uncertainty, the warring passion evident.
A slow smile melted from her furrowed brow, as she understood the meaning behind the words. "No." She breathed shaking her head slowly. "Give your yourself to me freely, as I have already given myself to you." Her voice was hushed, entreating. Hands still at his face, she leaned forward and brushed her lips once, twice, three times across his. The third time she lingered, tempting, reassuring. Legolas responded, deepening the kiss, and brought his hands behind her head, taking up lengths of hair which spilled through his fingers as he pulled her closer to him.
Breaking the kiss, with a little whimper of protest from Shu Lien, he pulled back and looked into her eyes. They were open and dilated with passion and emotion. Bringing a hand around he brushed the backs of his fingers across her cheek lovingly. She leaned into the caress, closing her eyes.
Opening them slowly again she smiled gently at the intensity of the emotions swirling in the blue depths of his own. Turning into his hand, she kissed it. Legolas leaned forward to place his lips, softly, lightly to hers before he stood, his hands finding hers, as he pulled her up with him.
They made their way towards his rooms hands clutched tightly.
~*~*~*~
Shu Lien entered Legolas' quarters and looked around. It reminded her so much of home. It was graceful and elegant in the fashion of the elvish aesthetic. But unlike the Amaurëa who used the blues of the ocean to decorate, all was done in the tones of earth and forest. Completely rustic materials were used in the most ornate and sumptuous details. Natural-toned polished woods were somehow bent into elegant designs to embellish the tables and beams of the walls and ceilings. The walls themselves were made of a very light, almost translucent stone. The outside wall was completely open out into the garden and a balcony, the floor-to-ceiling windowed doors having been folded against the wall. Thick flowering vines hung outside along the frame of the opening and on the balcony railings, giving the room privacy. It was sparsely furnished, airy and comfortable. On one wall a collection of ornate bows was hung, several quivers of different sizes and makes leaning against it. In an adjoining room she could see an elegantly carved bed and shelves of books.
Legolas shut the door to his room and then turned. Shu Lien was taking in her surroundings in her usual unhurried and unselfconscious way. Carefully removing her lei and draping it over a chair, she turned and sweetly smiled her approval. Legolas swallowed the lump in his throat. Seeing her in the rooms he had called home for millennia struck some chord in him. He felt like laughing and crying at the same time. The reality of the situation hit him suddenly and he felt paralyzed.
Shu Lien gracefully crossed the distance between them, her cotton night shift swishing softly. She regarded him silently for a moment and then, standing on the balls of her feet, planted a soft, lingering kiss on his lips. Legolas' body awoke immediately and all fears and worries fled from him, except one. As she pulled away, she put her hands in his and asked gently "What are you thinking?"
Legolas smiled, "How beautiful you look in my room."
Shu Lien laughed a short somewhat self-conscious laugh, eyes dropping momentarily. She met his gaze again. "And what else?"
Legolas' eyes flickered slightly but pushed forward "I was wondering if you were feeling nervous ..."
Shu Lien's eyes were unwavering. "I have you with me, why would I feel nervous? I trust you completely. You will guide me as we go, will you not?" She was still a maiden, but had not been a girl for many years. As a warrior she had been placed in many daunting and unknown situations. This one was delightfully different. Once she had made her decision she had let go. She was now doing nothing but what she was trained for: attending to each detail, each breath of each moment. A sly smile came over her face as she added "Besides, if your kisses are any indication, this is going to be an extremely pleasurable experience."
Legolas stepped wordlessly towards her and, bent to place a sweet and sensual kiss on her lips before drawing back again. His eyes sought hers. "Shu Lien..." he paused closing his eyes briefly, before quietly continuing, "Before our bodies are joined... I would ask you, will you bind yourself to me?"
Shu Lien brought her hands up to his cheeks, "My heart answered that question a long time ago... I have been fighting it ever since!" She said with a short laugh. The smile leaving her lips, she spoke softly and slowly, looking deeply into his eyes and whispered in Quenya. "Legolas, with Éru as my witness, I bind myself to you." Legolas closed his eyes a moment and then lowered his lips to hers, kissing her tenderly.
The kiss ignited their bodies instantly and his arms went around her as it deepened, crushing her to him. She responded in kind, hands gripping his shoulders and pressing her body desperately into his. Their mouths dueled until they both could barely draw breath, then Legolas broke the kiss and moved seamlessly across her jaw, down her neck, sucking and nipping gently. Shu Lien's knees gave out slightly with passion, but he supported her with his arm as his other hand traced her torso lightly, stopping at her small breast and cupping it tenderly. Shu Lien had let her head loll back, her breath was ragged. Legolas returned to her mouth, planting an impassioned kiss, then stepped away, much to the dismay of Shu Lien.
Until she saw that he was unbuttoning his tunic. Smiling, she did the same with her dressing gown, letting it fall to the floor. She was just reaching behind her neck to begin the buttons of her night shift, when his shirt dropped to the floor. Shu Lien let her hands drop to her sides, staring slightly open-mouthed at his slender, athletic form. He smiled with tender amusement as he saw that she was coming toward him, hand reached out as if to touch him.
He stood quietly as she did just that. Gentle, light brushes of examination that mapped out every line of his flawless skin and sculptured chest and back, her eyes following her hands, drinking in every inch of his body with an intensity that brought a smile to his eyes. All of this was new to her and she was devouring every experience with passion and presence. He closed his eyes in contentment as he luxuriated in the loving touch.
Soon he felt Shu Lien gently tug at his leggings meaningfully. His eyes were on hers as he kicked off his boots and untied his leggings, breaking eye contact only to bend down to remove them. Shu Lien's eyes were immediately drawn to his strong erection and she smiled curiously. Reaching out her hand again she looked up briefly into Legolas' eyes almost as if to ask permission. He took her hand gently and placed it on the soft skin where she delicately began exploring with eyes and fingers. Her touch, though innocent and light sent shudders through his body as his nerves blazed. Shu Lien looked up at him with interest. Continuing her exploration with her hands she intently watched his eyes and face as her varying touch drew different reactions and soft moans. A slow smile spread across her face as she barely whispered "Oh, I have much to learn, do I not?"
Legolas could not speak at that moment and finally gave up trying to let her have her exploration and grabbed her hands in his, pulling her urgently up for a hungry kiss. "Another time, my love, I will surely lose myself too soon." Closing his eyes to calm himself a moment, he then turned her gently in his hands and took up the heavy black hair in his hands, burying his face in it and inhaling, before stowing it over the front of one shoulder. He kissed the nape of her neck as his fingers began undoing the buttons of her gown. He pushed it off of her shoulders, kissing every inch of exposed skin, then pushed it down a little further until it fell the rest of the way to the floor at her feet. Shu Lien untied the pouch from her waist, and stowed it on the table beside them.
Legolas was lost in his rapt worship of her body. With a soft sigh he continued his kisses down her spine, his warm silky hands dragging down her sides. While delicate in form, she had the body of a warrior: taut, lithe, sleek. Though she still had a woman's shape, the hours she spent training had taken some of the softness out of her curves. He knelt, running his hands down her legs. Her skin was smooth and so soft as to conflict with the strength of the muscles beneath. Several scars were drawn angrily across her skin, one particularly nasty one was at her side, obviously beginning in front. He turned her around with a small exhale. She was so beautiful, he had a fleeting glimpse of incredulity. He traced a light finger from shoulder down over her breasts, over her stomach, dancing down her hips before embracing her to him and pressing his cheek to her stomach. "Shu Lien...." he whispered her name like a prayer, placing a worshipful kiss on the gash that did indeed begin on the front.
Shu Lien regarded him with heavy-lidded eyes, she was lost in the sensuality of his touch, she felt drunk. Legolas suddenly straightened and, after placing a bruising kiss on her lips, swung her up into his arms.
Shu Lien let out a little yelp of surprise before laughing and wrapping her arms around his neck. She rubbed her nose lovingly against his ear, tickling it with her breath and he shuddered. Shu Lien chuckled against his neck, murmuring "So it is true that Elvish ears are a sweet spot."
"Is that what you've heard? Well, it is a vicious rumor." Legolas whispered with a sly smile. Shu Lien pulled away and placed a gentle, playful nip on the tip of his ear. Legolas gasped, stumbling and almost dropping her in the process. Shu Lien laughed softly.
Trying to hide his own mirth he dropped her down on the bed unceremoniously, throwing himself down after her on top of her. He pressed her down into the bed and ravaged her neck, saying into it. "That was not funny, human." Her giggles silenced immediately as fire spread through her veins. Legolas chuckled low in his throat and began to kiss across her shoulder, then down to her breasts where he awoke each nipple with his tongue and teeth. She moaned and unconsciously arched her back. The small sound and her body moving beneath him caused a wall of heat to hit him full force and he left her breasts to claim her mouth once more.
The kiss was instantly fevered and she grabbed him to her desperately. Their mouths dueled ardently as the pressure built up inside her until she thought she would explode. Her hands were moving all over his body, searching for anything to lessen the demanding heat. He shuddered, trying desperately to maintain his composure, and moved his kiss to her neck then her sides, trailing kisses all over her body.
Suddenly she was tugging on him, "Legolas..." She breathed. He slid up her body, panting, to meet her eyes. Shu Lien whispered trying to control her rapid breathing, eyes black and passionate, "Legolas.. I want ... I want to feel you inside... please ..."
"`Please' is entirely unnecessary." he growled as he smothered her lips in a kiss. Positioning himself he pulled away from the kiss, waiting until her eyes opened and locked with his. Slowly he entered her, watching her eyes intently. He had never been the first, and he was worried about hurting her. She sucked in air at the sensation and tried to keep her eyes from rolling back into her head.
When he came upon resistance he paused, kissing her lips softly. "I love you." he whispered, then quickly thrust into her, stilling immediately. Gripping his shoulders, she closed her eyes, furrowing her brow, but did not cry out. Slowly the grip on his shoulders lessened, until she was once again brushing her hands across his back. Her eyes met his, open, trusting, an intense desire smoldering in their depths. Legolas' body was burning, but those eyes kept him easily in check. He began moving, watching her face in fascination as emotion and passion marched nakedly across it.
As he moved in and out of her slowly, Legolas whispered Elvish words so sweet that tears welled in her black eyes. Between the quiet moans that escaped her lips every time he thrust into her, Shu Lien softly called his name. Her voice was so pure and passionate that Legolas' heart rose to his throat and he rained soft feather-light kisses all over her face.
Soon the intense desire of his body began to burn away the tight reigns of self-control restraining him and he began to increase the tempo and intensity of his movements. Legolas was unable to form any coherent words or thoughts as his movements became more and more forceful. A long, low moan issued from deep in his throat as his body hummed with an intense pleasure which escalated impossibly with every movement.
Shu Lien was quickly loosing herself. The sensations assailing her were so powerful that they now smothered any sound from her throat. Legolas regarded her through slitted eyes, trying to assess how close she was to her release; he would not last much longer. Her movements were unconsciously and desperately trying to take him in deeper. He pressed his mouth over hers ravenously, moving a hand down to push one leg around his back. She understood immediately and wrapped her legs around his waist, groaning immediately with the increased pleasure. Together, they tumbled over the edge, riding waves of ecstasy so strong that nothing existed but this. Their voices cried out in unison. His essence joined with her life blood and they were each made whole.
But as the waves of pleasure decreased, the waves of pain began. Slow, rolling waves that pushed inside their heads and chests so hard that it felt like they would burst through.
Shu Lien closed her eyes, her face contorted in agony. Her breath was sucked from her and it felt like every fiber of her being was being pulled through the pores of her skin. The pain was almost unbearable, but she did not cry out. She wanted her last words to be the name of her lover that she had moments before called out in her bliss.
The blackness that descended upon her was most merciful, indeed.
