I hope the translations are correct, if not please email me so I can make any necessary repairs. I hope to add drawings soon, having just moved I will need some time. I hope you enjoy my first fan fic I've ever written, please let me know what you think! This fan fic was also part of the www.haldir-lives.org Fan Fic Challenge.
Special thanks to Lora who co-wrote the next chapters with me, with her great advice on birthing babies from her midwife experiences!!! Since I had a C-Section and never had labor (yay!) she was a great help! Thank you Lora!!!

"I think this child has a thousand arms and legs!" Jelena said. She was lying on her side, trying to get comfortable. She figured she had a month or two left to go, even though she was enormous.

Her back had been hurting since she woke up that morning and got worse as the day went on. The muscles across her stomach would tighten up, but it wasn't painful. "It's getting close!" her aunt Eglantine commented. "Your muscles are preparing for labor," she said with her hand on Jelena's tight abdomen.

p Jelena wriggled about, finally cramming a pillow between her knees and under the side of her belly. The pain in her back was increasing. She reached back and pressed on her lower back. "Let me," Legolas said, sitting up in bed and rubbing her back. Jelena let out a sigh of relief. His hands were warm and soothing. Legolas rubbed her back for a while until he felt the tenseness leave her body. Then he spooned in behind her with his hand on her swollen belly.

Jelena was almost asleep when she felt something pop inside her. Warm liquid gushed out from between her legs, soaking the bed, Legolas and herself. Legolas jumped from the bed and pulled back the covers. Jelena rolled over with a look of shock on her face. "I think someone is ready to make their entrance!" Legolas said grinning. Legolas helped Jelena out of the bed, more of her water running down her legs. He helped her over to a chair and pulled off the wet bedding. He flipped the mattress over and laid towels down and helped her back onto the bed. "I will get your aunt," he said, kissing her on the forehead. "Try to get some rest."

Legolas had no sooner left the room when Jelena's back started to ache. The pain radiated around her stomach and became intense, making her clench her teeth. She curled up in a ball and waited it out. Legolas and her aunt Eglantine came into the room just as it was subsiding. She felt Legolas' hands on her back, rubbing it, easing the tension away. He rolled her over and looked into her eyes. Her face had gone pale and he saw fear in her eyes. He brushed the hair away from her face and murmured words of love into her ear. "I am here, Jelena. I love you and will help you through this. Be strong, my brave one."

"Let's see how far along you are," Eglantine said. "Put some pillows behind your wife, Legolas." While Legolas lifted her up and stacked several pillows behind her back while her aunt pulled up her wet nightgown. "I'm sorry, sweetie, but this might hurt a little." She pulled open Jelena's legs and examined her, making Jelena grimace. Legolas stroked her cheek trying to comfort her. Eglantine smiled. "No wonder your back has been hurting you today! You were in labor. You are almost fully open and the baby has come down a lot. Probably within an hour, we'll be welcoming this babe into the world! I think I better go wake Angelica and Pervinca. Just try to rest, sweetie. Legolas, can you give me a hand?"

"I will be right back," he said, placing kisses across her closed eyelids. "Rest."

Legolas followed Eglantine into the hallway. They walked to Angelica's door and she turned to face him. "I am worried, Legolas. Jelena is so large. I am hoping that this baby is not too big and will come out with no problems. She will need your full support. Are you ready to handle this?"

Legolas nodded. "I love her with all my heart. I would not be anywhere but at her side to help her though this."

Eglantine smiled. "Then go back to her and hold her hand, rub her back, whatever it takes. I am warning you, women can get a bit cranky when they are in that kind of pain. Don't take it personally!"

Legolas went into the room to find Jelena contorted in pain on the bed. He lifted her up and put his arm around her and held her to his chest. She was holding her breath. "Breathe my love, don't hold it in. Breathe it away. Take deep breaths. That's it." He rubbed his hand across her stomach, the muscles tight with the contraction. The pain passed. He kissed her on top of her head. "I remember seeing the female elves in Mirkwood in labor. The midwives told them that they should walk around to help speed things up. Come," he said and helped her off the bed. He wrapped a blanket around her shoulders and walked her down the hallway.

He led her outside, the night air crisp and cold. It was the beginning of spring but the winter air was still had its hold in the Shire. Legolas walked her along the path in front of the hobbit hole. "You must be freezing!" Jelena exclaimed, looking at Legolas. All he had on were his leggings, forgetting about his boots and tunic.

"I am fine, my love," she said, hugging her to him. "You have quite a lot of work ahead of you, Jelena. I will do everything I can for you." He brushed his fingers along her cheek. "We are going to be parents in a very short time!" he said, beaming at her. "It is almost over."

Jelena smiled up at Legolas and ran her hand over his chest. "You are cold!" She opened the blanket and wrapped it around his shoulder. They took a few more steps when she felt the next pain coming on. "Oh no!" she moaned, turning towards Legolas' chest and leaned against him.

Legolas caught her under the arms and held her tight. "I have you. Try to relax. Try not to tense your muscles. Breathe deep." He rubbed her lower back.

"Rub harder!" she grumbled. She took deep breaths and let Legolas support her weight. It felt like the contraction was going to last forever when she finally began to feel it ease off. They continued to walk around and several more contractions passed. They were getting closer together.

Jelena's hair stuck to her face and neck with sweat. "We better get you inside," Legolas said. They were walking down the hall when another one hit, this one the most powerful so far. Jelena cried out and Legolas picked her up and carried her to their bed. Her aunts and cousin came into the room behind them. Her face was contorted in agony. Legolas sat on the bed behind her and rested her against his chest holding her hand. He soothed her face with kisses, whispering in her ear to keep her calm. Legolas looked up at her aunts and Pervinca with an aggrieved look on his face. He felt helpless to see his wife in so much pain, unable to do anything except console her.

Jelena heard him whispering to her, but the pain was overwhelming. She felt as if she was in a deep well of agony, with no control over her body. She couldn't speak or think, just lay there in Legolas' arms as the waves of pain rolled through her in peaks and valleys.

Pervinca brought in a bowl of cool water and a washcloth. She dipped the cloth into the water and handed it to Legolas. He wiped her brow and her cheeks. It helped to momentarily relax her. She took a deep breath and opened her eyes, looking up at Legolas' concerned face. She tried to give him a smile.

Within seconds, the next contraction wracked her body. A loud moan escaped her taut lips. Her aunts stopped what they were doing and sat on the bed next to her, pressing on her tight belly. "The pains are close and lasting a long time now, Legolas," Eglantine said. She continued to feel her stomach, watching Jelena's face. "If I am not mistaken," she said, "I feel two babies!" She looked at Angelica, both with worried expressions on their faces, making Legolas inwardly wince. "Pervinca, please bring in the hot water and more towels.

Another wave rolled over Jelena, making her cry out. Her knuckles were white from squeezing Legolas' hand so tight. "I need to push!" she yelled.

Just then, Pippin poked his head into the room. They all turned when they heard him sucking in his breath. "Oh goodness! It's time!" he said, smiling. "What can I do to help?"

p "Just stay out of the way, Pippin!" his mother said to him. "This is no place for you to be!" She saw the disappointed look on Pippin's face. "You can help. Keep a kettle of water hot for us," she said smiling at him.

"I need to push!" Jelena yelled again.

"We need to check you again, Jelena. Don't push yet." Eglantine reached down to check her and touched the top of the baby's head. "Oh my goodness!" she exclaimed. "Push sweetie! The baby's head is down! Push! Legolas, lift her back while she pushes. That's it!" Eglantine grabbed a towel and watched and waited. "You are doing very good, Jelena. I can see the top of the baby's head now!"

Jelena felt the contraction subside and took a deep breath. Legolas laid the cool washcloth across her forehead and caressed her cheek. Jelena swatted his hand away. "Please don't do that!" she snapped. Legolas' mouth twitched and he looked up at Eglantine with a grin. He felt Jelena stiffen in his arms and watched her squeeze her eyes shut.

"Push, my love," he said, lifting her back. Jelena felt like she was going to tear open. She pushed as hard as she could, the pressure becoming unbearable. She let out a cry and continued to push.

"The baby has your hair color, Legolas! And tiny pointed ears! Legolas! Look down!" Angelica said.

Legolas watched with awe as the baby's head emerged from Jelena. "You must stop pushing, Jelena," Eglantine said, helping the baby to turn. "Okay! With the next contraction, push with all your might! Reach down and touch your baby, Jelena." She took Jelena's hand and placed it on the baby's head. Jelena managed a smile before the next contraction rocked her senses. She pushed with all her might and Eglantine pulled gently on the baby to free its shoulders. Angelica laid a towel across Jelena's stomach. First one shoulder came out and then the next and then the baby was out. She held the tiny, crying baby and wiped it with the towel and placed it on Jelena's stomach. "You have a daughter!"

Eglantine went to check Jelena for the next baby. Her face went white. She grabbed another towel and pressed it between Jelena's legs. It was quickly soaked with blood. "Jelena, when the next contraction starts, you need to push. We have to get this baby out." Legolas' eyes met Eglantine's and saw the concern on her face. He looked down and saw the bloody towel, his face going pale.

Jelena looked down at the tiny babe on her stomach and smiled. She reached down and wrapped her in the towel. She put her finger in the tiny hand and her daughter grasped it tight. Tears came to Jelena's eyes. She looked just like her father. "Bainiell," Jelena said, "let's name her Bainiell."

Legolas smiled at Jelena, trying not to show his fear. "Beautiful Daughter. It is a lovely name." He touched his daughter's cheek, tears spilling down his face as the child tried to suck on his finger.

Angelica took the baby off of Jelena's stomach as Eglantine cut the cord. "I will get her cleaned up," Angelica said. "You have more work to do, love!" Her aunt no sooner finished speaking when another pain gripped her, forcing a wail from her.
