I hope the translations are correct, if not please email me so I can make any necessary repairs. I hope to add drawings soon, having just moved I will need some time. I hope you enjoy my first fan fic I've ever written, please let me know what you think! This fan fic was also part of the www.haldir-lives.org Fan Fic Challenge.

Pippin took of his cloak and wrapped it around Jelena's shoulders. He pulled the knife out of Maeldir's back. "If I ever see Galadriel again, I must thank her for this Noldorin dagger," he said to himself. He wiped the blood off on Maeldir's tunic. He knelt down beside Jelena cut the cords binding her hands. "Are you all right?" he asked.

"You're hurt!" she said. Pippin's right eye was swollen shut and bloody.

"Don't worry about me. Are you hurt? Do you think you can walk?" He took her hand and pulled her to her feet. Jelena was dizzy from being hit so many times. Pippin held her up and wrapped the cloak around her naked body.

Jelena looked down at Maeldir. Tears burned her eyes. "Are you sure he's dead?" she asked. Pippin rolled him over with his foot. Maeldir stared blankly up at the night sky.

"I don't think we have anything to worry about," Pippin said. "I do not think he will be bothering you again. Let's get you home and cleaned up." Pippin walked her down the path, supporting her the best he could. She couldn't see too well, both of her eyes were swollen from the slaps she received and from her tears. She was sore between her legs, which made walking difficult. It felt like they had walked for hours before they saw the glow of lights through the hobbit-hole windows. Paladin and Pimpernel were sitting outside with Gimli smoking their pipes. "I need some help!" Pippin yelled to them.

Astaldo ran to Jelena along with Gimli and Pimpernel. Paladin yelled into the door for the women to come out, that Pippin and Jelena had returned. "Oh, lass!" Gimli said. "What happened to you?"

"Maeldir," she said. Gimli reached for his axe. "There's no need for that, Gimli. He is dead." Jelena's knees gave out from under her and she hit the ground. Her aunt Angelica wrapped a blanket around her and the men carried her inside. They sat her down in an overstuffed chair and they all looked at her battered face. Her aunts and Pervinca all sucked in their breaths and held their hands over their mouths. "I take it that I don't look so good," Jelena said. Her face was cut and bloody all over. Her lip was split and her nose was swollen. The bruising was already beginning to show.

"What happened to you, my dear?" Paladin asked.

"Pippin and I were attacked by an elf from Mirkwood," she said. "He must have followed me here or knew where I was going to be. I guess you could say he had something out for me."

Pippin whispered what Maeldir had done to her into his mother's ear. "Oh my goodness!" Eglantine cried. "My poor girl! I will fill a bath for you right away!" She grabbed Angelica and Pervinca by the hands and pulled them in the direction of the kitchen, whispering to them what Pippin had told her. Jelena could here the reactions of her aunt and cousin coming from the hallway.

Her uncle came back with a bottle and a cup. "Here, love, this will help ease the pain." He put the cup in her hands and poured some of the bottle's contents into it. "Sip it! It is very strong!" Jelena took a sip. Instantly heat burned her throat all the way down to her stomach, making her cough.

She handed the cup back to her uncle. "I am all right," she said. "I think I look worse than I feel." She was lying. Her head was pounding so bad it was making her sick to her stomach. Every move she made was pure agony. "I think all I need is a hot bath and some rest."

Her aunts and cousin came for her a while later and helped her down the hall to the kitchen. A tub was set up on the floor filled with steaming water. Angelica took the blanket wrapped around her and Eglantine removed the cloak. They all gasped. Jelena was covered with bruises; a large nasty one was on her ribcage where Maeldir had kicked her. She was covered in dirt and grass stains. Dried blood was caked to her thighs.

"Oh sweetie!" Eglantine said. "The baby! Is the baby okay?"

"I think the baby is fine," Jelena said. She began to shake all over. The baby! What if he hurt the baby? It was the only thing she had left in the world that bound her to Legolas. Her aunts helped her into the tub. Jelena put her hands to her face and cried.

"Let it out my brave girl!" Angelica said. "Let it out!" Her aunts took washcloths and gently washed the dirt from Jelena's body. Pervinca washed her hair and rinsed it with clean water. When they were done they helped her from the tub and dried her. They pulled the blue nightgown Legolas had given her over her head and helped her to her room. They put her in bed and put hot bricks around her to help ease the pain.

Jelena was exhausted. Everything ached. Her aunts offered to make her something to eat but Jelena only wanted to sleep. After they left her alone, Jelena curled around her pillow and cried, wishing that Legolas was there to hold her, and she cried herself to sleep.

The next morning, Robin told the three elves where Jelena's family lived. "It is about a two day ride from here," he said.

"Thank you," said Legolas. "Again, I am sorry about the door." He hopped on his horse. "Come on you two! Let's hurry!" He kicked his horse and galloped down the road.

Jelena awoke the next morning feeling stiff and sore. The swelling had gone down a bit in her eyes. She took off her nightgown to get dressed. She looked down at her belly. There were no bruises on her stomach, for which she was very thankful. She looked at her side. A tremendous black bruise ran the length of her ribs. She lightly touched it and flinched in pain, knowing he had broken a rib or two. She carefully put on her dress and decided to strap on her sword and went towards the kitchen.

She passed by a mirror and went back to take a look. Her mouth dropped open at what she saw. Her face was like one big bruise. Her eyes were black underneath from Maeldir smashing her nose. She had a nasty cut above her eyebrow that had closed but still looked terrible. Her lower lip was split across the middle. Tears welled up in her eyes. "Stop it!" she said to herself. "It will heal." She straightened up her back and continued on to the kitchen.

"Good morning," she said to her aunts in the kitchen. "Where is everyone?"

Her aunts looked at each other. "Well, uh, the men, uh, went to make sure that elf is dead," said Angelica.

"And to dispose of him," added Eglantine. She glanced at the sword at Jelena's side, saying nothing about it. "Are you hungry?" she asked.

"I'm starving," she said.

"It's a beautiful morning. Why don't you go sit in the garden out front and we'll bring your breakfast out there?" said Angelica. She handed Jelena a big glass of milk. "Scoot!"

Jelena smiled at her aunts and went towards the door. She found a nice chair in the morning sunshine and sat down carefully. She sipped her milk and closed her eyes soaking up the sun's warmth. She sat up suddenly, feeling extreme pain from her ribs. She could hear horses approaching. She stood up and walked toward the road with her sword in her hand. She saw a white horse followed by three riders on ponies. It was Gandalf with three hobbits.

"Good morning!" Gandalf said. As he got closer, he could see something was wrong with Jelena and that she was holding a sword. "Goodness! What has happened to you?" he said, jumping off of Shadowfax and rushing over to the girl. He took her hands and saw the deep cuts around her wrists where they had been bound together.

"Pippin and I were attacked last night by an elf with a vengeance against me," she said.

"An elf? Why would an elf want to hurt you?"

"He was one of Thranduil's guards. He was the one I told you about who was banished from Eryn Lasgalen for the way he treated me. He must have followed… wait a minute!" she said. "When we stopped at Bree, Butterbur said that an elf had been there a few days before us! It must have been Maeldir! He knew I was coming to the Shire!"

"And how is Pippin?" asked Gandalf.

"He received a good knock upside the head and cut his eye, but otherwise he is okay. If it wasn't for him, Maeldir would have killed me."

"Well, thank goodness for Pippin! And thank goodness you are all right!" he said, hugging her. Jelena sucked in her breath and almost blacked out from the pain. Gandalf felt her collapsing and held onto her. "Jelena!" he said, picking the girl up and carrying her over to a chair. "Are you all right?"

Jelena waited for things to stop spinning around her. "I will be all right. I'm sorry! I think he broke a few of my ribs."

"Oh goodness! And here I am hugging you! I am the one who's sorry!"

Jelena looked up at the hobbits surrounding Gandalf. One had dark curly hair and large blue eyes, much like hers. "You must be Frodo," she said. "Bilbo described you perfectly!"

Frodo smiled at her. "How is my uncle? Gandalf said you had met him. When he told us about you we had to ride over this morning to meet you," Frodo said. "This is Samwise Gamgee and Merry Brandybuck."

"Hullo," Sam said. "It is a pleasure to meet you."

"I am your first cousin!" exclaimed Merry. "Your mother and my mother, Esmeralda, were sisters."

"I have heard so much about you all, I feel like I know you. Legolas and Gimli told me much about your journey. I am so glad you all made it back safe and that I finally got to meet you," Jelena said.

She turned at the sound of people coming down the road. It was Pippin, Paladin, Pimpernel and Gimli. They were carrying shovels and Pippin was carrying the remains of the dress Glorfindel had bought her in Bree. Their heads were down and they were quiet. Pippin looked up. "Merry! Frodo! Sam! Gandalf!" he yelled running over to them. He hugged each of them clapping them on the back. He looked at Jelena and his face scrunched up in a painful look. "How are you feeling?" he asked.

"I've felt better," Jelena said. "How is the eye?"

p "It is all right. I will live!" He set down her dress. "I brought it back for you. I don't think it can be repaired."

"Is he dead?" she asked.

Pippin nodded. "We dragged him off and buried him in the woods. It is a shame his blood tainted that peaceful place of my childhood," he said. "He will bother no one ever again."

Jelena smiled and took a deep breath, wincing at the pain in her ribs. "Well, I see that I shall have to mix up something for you to help ease the pain," said Gandalf. He went to Shadowfax and grabbed his saddlebag. "Now if you boys would be so kind as to help Jelena back into the house, I would be most grateful!" He turned to Pippin, "ask your mother for some strips of cloth. Jelena will have to her her ribs bound for a while."

Gandalf mixed up a salve and her aunts carefully applied it to her ribs and bound them. Jelena was surprised how much it helped ease the pain. She was able to walk around and breath easier without too much pain. They sat in the kitchen and the hobbits enjoyed a second breakfast with Gandalf. "I think Jelena's arrival calls for a celebration!" said Pippin.

"That sounds wonderful!" Paladin said. "We can invite over some of the neighbors to meet her. Tomorrow! We'll do it tomorrow. We'll have a nice little party on top of the hill!" he said, clapping his hands together.

"You don't have to do that for me!" Jelena said. She was feeling self-conscious about the looks of her face.

"Nonsense! Of course we do!!! Everyone is going to love you!" Paladin said. He got a piece of paper and began to write down the names of those he wanted to invite. Eglantine and Angelica began writing down stuff that they would have to go to town to pick up. "Merry! You must ride over to your mother's and invite her and Saradoc too! She must come meet her niece!"

"But…" Jelena tried to say.

"I don't want to hear another word!" Paladin said. He looked into Jelena's eyes, seeing the sadness and worry. "Do not worry, my girl. Everything will be all right!" Her aunts and Pervinca were on their way to town within an hour with Sam in tow. Paladin sent out Merry and Pippin to invite their neighbors for the party tomorrow afternoon. Gandalf and Frodo stayed to keep Jelena company.

Jelena noticed that Frodo was not like the other hobbits. He was more quiet and reserved. They went outside and Frodo and Gandalf enjoyed some pipe weed. Jelena fell asleep in the afternoon sun, feeling much relief from Gandalf's medicine. She woke later in the late afternoon when her aunts and cousin returned with Sam and a cart full of party goods. Pippin and Merry returned a short time after them and they all sat down for a dinner together. Gandalf, Frodo, Sam and Merry stayed the night with the Tooks. All hands would be needed to set up the party the next morning.

~*~*~*~

Legolas, Haldir and Lirimaer stopped well after dark to rest for the night. Legolas could not sleep. All he could think about was seeing Jelena the next day. His heart was pounding in his chest. He waited a long time to be able to hold her in his arms and kiss her. He lay on his bedroll staring at the stars. Not much longer, he thought.
