Notes: While writing this, I followed the Tolkien's books and the two movies and made up a few things as well. My timeline does not coincide with the books, only to try to keep things short! I hope the translations are correct, if not please email me so I can make any necessary repairs. I hope to add drawings soon, having just moved I will need some time. I hope you enjoy my first fan fic I've ever written, please let me know what you think! This fan fic was also part of the www.haldir-lives.org Fan Fic Challenge.

"I remember your mother," Bilbo said. "She and her sister, Myrtle, moved to the Shire from Great Smials. The Tooks have always been considered a strange bunch. They enjoy exploring and going on journeys while most Hobbits never leave the Shire. Did I tell you I have Took blood in my veins? My mother, Belladonna, was a Took. I once went on a journey to Erebor with a bunch of dwarves and Gandalf the Grey. We had run-ins with trolls, goblins, spiders and Mirkwood elves. And a dragon! I'm getting away from the subject," chuckled Bilbo.

"I had met Iris and Myrtle when they worked at the Green Dragon Inn for a while. Then I heard rumors they moved on the Bree. So you say orcs captured them?" Jelena nodded. "From what I remember of your mother, she was a lovely young girl. And so was your aunt. You have many relatives living over in Tuckburrow. In fact, your uncle, Paladin, is the Thain of the Shire."

"I would love to meet them one day. I was actually hoping to go soon but I have been ill," Jelena said. "Is the Shire a great distance from here?"

"It is a fortnight's journey from here. 1 Perhaps if you are riding it would be a bit shorter," said Bilbo. "You really should go. Your family will love you and you will love them! Hobbits are not like the elves from Mirkwood. Those elves are fools for not giving you a chance. Who needs them!" Bilbo said, winking at her.

I only need one, thought Jelena. She returned Bilbo's smile. "I think you are right. I probably shouldn't wait too long," she said, placing a hand on her flat belly. "Perhaps after the wedding I should go."

"I'll ask Elrond for an escort to show you the way. The road is unsafe for a young lady to travel. I would take you but I am too old. I don't think I shall ever see the Shire again," said Bilbo, a touch of melancholy in his voice. "I do miss my nephew, Frodo. You must meet him when you go! Perhaps if you have time, I can tell you about him."

"I would love that!" Jelena said, making herself comfortable on the soft lounge chair.

It had been just over a week since Thranduil was wounded. Legolas had stayed close to the Halls to keep an eye on him. Now that Thranduil was back on his feet, Legolas couldn't wait to get back to the forest. Thranduil talked about nothing else but the wedding. Who was coming, about the festivities, and how grand everything was going to be. Legolas couldn't care in the least. "Father, there is no need to go on and on about this," he said. "I am only doing this because you have forced it upon me. I don't care about all the particulars."

"Are you still swooning over the…over Jelena?" Thranduil said, rolling his eyes.

"I will not discuss this with you. Aragorn and Arwen will be arriving soon. I must make preparations for their arrival. Is there anything else you need from me?"

"No, Legolas, you may go. See to the arrangements for Celeborn and his wife as well. They too will be arriving soon."

Legolas turned and stared at Thranduil. "They are coming already? Why so soon? The wedding is not for another two months."

"We thought it would be good for Nevdilien and you to meet get to know each before your marriage," Thranduil said, avoiding Legolas' glance.

Legolas knew that his father was up to something. "Very well," he said, leaving his father's chamber.

Aragorn and Arwen arrived early that evening. Gwaihir the Windlord and another eagle, Meneldor, brought them as Gwaihir had promised two weeks prior. "Mae govannen, Legolas!" Aragorn said, striding over to his friend and embracing him. Legolas hugged him back, feeling joy for the first time in quite a while at seeing his friend again.

"Arwen, it is delightful to see you again," Legolas said, bowing to her, grinning.

"Don't be silly, Legolas," she said, giving him a poke and then a hug.

"Gwaihir, Meneldor, thank you for safely delivering my friends. I am in your debt," Legolas said, bowing to the Eagle King. "And I want to thank you again for taking my message to Rivendell."

"You need not thank me, Prince Legolas. I never brought your message," Gwaihir said. "I found the girl and brought her to Rivendell myself."

Legolas sucked in his breath. "Jelena? You brought her to Rivendell? Where did you find her? Was she all right?" Aragorn and Arwen looked questioningly at Legolas, wondering who Jelena was.

"I am sure she is fine now. She was not so well when I found her below the Pass of Caradhras. I delivered her into Elrond's healing hands. I heard she had been unwell since leaving Eryn Lasgalen," the eagle said.

Legolas stared at the ground with a pained look on his face. "I certainly hope she is well," he said.

"Is everything all right?" Aragorn asked.

Legolas looked at his friend with a phony smile. "Nothing to worry about, Aragorn." Legolas turned back to Gwaihir. "Thank you, Gwaihir. You are a great friend to the elves. Will you be coming to the celebration in two months?"

p "Two months?" Gwaihir said. "Do you not mean one month?"

"No, two months," Legolas said. "Why do you ask?"

"Thranduil's message to us was that you were to be wed in the first week of urui," Arwen said.

"As it was to us as well," said Gwaihir.

Legolas gritted his teeth. "I have a feeling that I have been fooled again by my Ada!" Legolas took Arwen by the arm. "Gwaihir, I hope to see you again soon. If you go to Rivendell again, please keep me informed on Jelena's health." He nodded to the great eagles and spun Arwen around towards the gate into the Halls. "I'll show you both to your room."

Aragorn walked beside Legolas. "So, who is Jelena?" Aragorn asked. Legolas stopped for a split second and then continued on into the passageway. At the mention of her name, Aragorn could see the anguish on his friend's face. Aragorn put his hand on his friend's shoulder. "It is obvious that she is someone that you pine for and she is not the one you are to marry." Legolas looked up at Aragorn with watery eyes. "I am here, my friend if you want to talk," Aragorn said sincerely.

"It is wonderful to have a friend here, Aragorn." Legolas put his arm around Arwen and hugged her to him. "Make that two friends!"

Aragorn and Arwen sat at the table listening to Legolas. He told them how he had found Jelena and brought her back to Eryn Lasgalen and how she was not received well. He told them how his father's guard, Maeldir, framed Jelena and Gimli for stealing and had them locked away, almost killing Jelena. Then he explained about the deal Thranduil made with Celeborn to marry Nevdilien and how Rúmil was in love with her. He finished by telling them about the deal he made with his father to let Jelena and Gimli go to Rivendell with Haldir and Lirimaer and he would stay and marry Nevdilien. Legolas slumped in his chair when he had finished, feeling exhausted from the run through of the past events. Aragorn and Arwen were silent. Legolas looked up at them, his eyes dark and sorrowful.

"I am so sorry, Legolas," Arwen cried, taking Legolas' hands in hers. Tears flowed freely from her eyes. "You are such a good soul. You do not deserve such pain in your heart. You love this girl very much."

Legolas nodded and smiled at Arwen. "I am sorry, Arwen. I did not mean to make you shed tears for me."

Aragorn chuckled. "Arwen has been crying about everything, Legolas," he said, putting his arm around his wife, blotting the tears from her eyes. "Being with child has made her a very sensitive elf!" Arwen swatted at Aragorn, smiling.

"You are with child? I am happy for you both!" Legolas cheered. "When are you expecting your little one?"

"The end of next gwirith," Arwen said, beaming. 3

"Well, Aragorn, I see you have wasted no time!" Legolas laughed.

Jelena wanted to go back to her room. She was feeling sick and miserable. It was breaking her heart watching Vuranor and Alfirin declare their love for each other in front of everyone in the large garden. She wanted so much to be able to declare her love to Legolas, to be with him forever. Gimli was sitting next to her falling asleep. Haldir and Lirimaer were sitting on the other side of her. She elbowed Gimli, his head shooting up. "Gimli, we need to leave Rivendell soon," she whispered. A single tear ran down her cheek. "I need to find my kin."

"Elrond said that Glorfindel would accompany us, even though I do not know why we need an escort!" Gimli grumbled. Haldir cleared his throat, glaring at Gimli. Gimli sneered back. "When do you want to go? I am ready whenever you are!"

"Thank you for doing this for me, Gimli," Jelena said, kissing Gimli on his cheek.

Gimli blushed under his bushy beard and smiled. "Tis no problem, lass. It will be good to see the young Hobbits again as well."
