Notes: While writing this, I followed the Tolkien's books and the two movies and made up a few things as well. My timeline does not coincide with the books, only to try to keep things short! I hope the translations are correct, if not please email me so I can make any necessary repairs. I hope to add drawings soon, having just moved I will need some time. I hope you enjoy my first fan fic I've ever written, please let me know what you think! This fan fic was also part of the www.haldir-lives.org Fan Fic Challenge.
Jelena looked up at Lirimaer. Jelena was lying across her lap and Lirimaer was holding her tightly. All around them was blue sky and clouds and she felt the wind rushing over her. They were on the back of an eagle.
"Just lay back and enjoy the ride," Lirimaer said. "We should be there in no time." Jelena was feeling very sick to her stomach and she never got the chance to relieve herself. She wished that they were on the ground.
A short time later, Gwaihir landed in a garden of the Last Homely House. It was beautifully landscaped with statues and carved benches, arbors, and staircases leading up to a large building that looked like it had grown out of the earth itself. The air smelled sweet with honeysuckle and roses. Waterfalls cascaded down from the cliffs that surrounded the valley, leaving a fine mist in the air.
A tall, blonde, blue-eyed elf was there to greet them. "Mae govannen, Lord Gwaihir." He gave Lirimaer his hand and she slipped off Gwaihir's back. "Lirimaer! It is lovely to see you again," he said, giving her a big hug. Then the elf helped down a very green Jelena. "I am Glorfindel, chief counselor to Lord Elrond. Welcome to Rivendell," he said. "And who may you be?"
"I am Jelena," she said, her knees feeling rather wobbly. "Thank you for bringing us here, Lord Gwaihir," she said to the great eagle.
"You are welcome, Lady Jelena. I hope that you recover from your illness quickly."
Glorfindel looked down at Jelena. "You are not well?" he said, noting her paleness. "I will take you to your room. Gwaihir, I will notify Lord Elrond that you are here." He bowed to the eagle and carefully picked Jelena up and carried her up a staircase and through a beautifully carved archway. It led into a library where a dark-haired elf was reading with a tiny white-haired hobbit. "Lord Elrond, Lirimaer has arrived with a friend. Gwaihir the Windlord awaits you in the garden as well."
Elrond stood and walked around the table. "Lirimaer!" he said, hugging her tight. He held her at arm's length and looked her over. "You are looking wonderful. I see that Haldir has been taking care of you. Where is he?"
"He should be here late tomorrow with the horses and Gimli is with him as well." Elrond raised an eyebrow at this news. He knew how the two got along from their journey from Edoras to Isengard. "Gwaihir was kind enough to bring Jelena and I here. She is ill."
Elrond turned his eyes to Jelena. They were a deep grey and sparkling and he had a warm smile on his face. "Welcome, Jelena. Glorfindel, put her in the room next to Lirimaer's. I will be up soon with something to make you feel better," he said, putting a hand to her forehead. Jelena was surprised at the greeting she was receiving at Rivendell. These elves appeared to be nothing like the elves of Eryn Lasgalen. His touch was warm and caring and made her feel relaxed.
Elrond motioned to the hobbit now standing next to him. "Jelena, this is Bilbo Baggins." Jelena had heard of Bilbo and his nephew, Frodo, from Legolas talking about the destruction of the Ring. Thinking of Legolas made her heart ache for him. Elrond studied the distressed look on her face.
"Welcome, Jelena and wonderful to see you again, Lirimaer," Bilbo said. He was looking at Jelena's feet sticking out from her gown. "You are a hobbit, Jelena?"
"Half hobbit, half elf," she said. "My mother was a Took. Iris Took."
"Ah! Iris Took? I have heard that name before!" he said.
Bilbo, perhaps we should let the ladies go to their rooms and refresh themselves. They have had a long journey," Elrond said, putting his hand on his friend's shoulder. Bilbo looked a bit disappointed but agreed. "You will have plenty of time to talk with them later. Please excuse me. Gwaihir awaits me in the garden."
"Jelena, we will have to talk later when you are feeling up to it," Bilbo said.
"I am looking forward to it!" she said. Her spirits were lifted knowing that someone knew of her mother.
Glorfindel carried her up the staircase at one end of the library. They went down a long, open walkway. "Oh, I feel like I have been away forever!" Lirimaer said, running ahead of them to her room. Everything was just as she had left it.
Glorfindel continued on the room next to Lirimaer's and opened the door. It was a large airy room with lots of open windows and a balcony. Beautiful, flowering vines climbed up the railing around the balcony, releasing their sweet scent in the breeze. Glorfindel sat her down on a large bed made of branches twisted together that it looked like it had grown that way. "I will leave you to rest now," he said, bowing to Jelena and Lirimaer.
Jelena hopped off the bed onto weak legs. Lirimaer quickly grabbed hold of her to steady her. "I am going to burst Lirimaer if I do not relieve myself now!" she said, laughing.

Elrond arrived some time later to find Jelena in bed and Lirimaer in a chair next to her. His eyes were sad but he still had a smile for Jelena and Lirimaer. "Is everything all right, Elrond?" Lirimaer asked.
"Yes. Gwaihir had a message from Arwen. Already she is with child. It appears that she and King Aragorn are in a hurry to get a family started," he said, smiling. "Unfortunately, I will not get to see my grandchild." He stared off for a while in thought. Lirimaer knew he had said farewell to Arwen at Edoras and he would be going to the Grey Havens soon. Jelena only looked at him confused, seeing the pain in his eyes.
Elrond brought his attention back to Jelena. "Well, let me see if I can help you to feel better," he said, smiling at her. He looked into her eyes and checked down her thoat. "I need to check your stomach," he said, pulling down the covers. He pushed down on her stomach, feeling all around. He pushed down on her lower abdomen and after carefully checking her, he asked, "When was the last time you had your monthly cycle?"
"I don't know," Jelena said. "It has never been regular. I sometimes skip for several months."
He pulled the covers back over her and sat down on the edge of the bed. "I am afraid there is nothing I can do for you," he said. "I can give you some herbs to help ease the nausea, but hopefully it will stop eventually. Otherwise, you could use a few days of rest. I would say that in about ten to elven months you should be yourself again."
"Ten to eleven months?" Jelena was horrified. "What is wrong with me?"
"You are with child. I would say you conceived about a month to a month and a half ago. It seems to be contagious!" Elrond said, grinning. Jelena and Lirimaer were speechless. Tears flooded from Jelena's eyes and Lirimaer held her tight. Lirimaer looked at Elrond with sorrow in her eyes. "What is wrong?" Elrond asked.
"The child's father is Legolas," Lirimaer said. "I thought she was sick from a broken heart."
Elrond knew Thranduil well. He knew Thranduil would never allow his son to be with the girl and would never receive a child from her into his kingdom. "Jelena, you are welcome to stay at Rivendell for as long as you like," he said, taking Jelena's hands in his. "Raise your child here if you wish. Here you will have the aid and protection of the elves."
Jelena looked at Elrond with bloodshot eyes. The look on his face was genuine. "Thank you, Lord Elrond. I cannot decide anything right now. My life has once again flipped upside down. I need time to think things through."
"Of course. Get some rest now," Elrond said. "I will be back later with something to help your nausea. If you need anything, just ask." Elrond smiled at her and left the room.
"Get some sleep, Jelena," Lirimaer said. She kissed her on the forehead and closed the door behind her.
Jelena lay in bed for some time thinking. She thought about how she was going to raise a child by herself. All she could think about before was how she was going to live without Legolas in her life. Now she had to think about the life growing inside her. She ran her hands down her flat stomach. She thought about her stomach swelling and getting heavy with child; Legolas' child.
Elrond came back a while later with some herbal tea for Jelena's queasiness. He put it on the table next to Jelena's bed and looked down at her. She was smiling in her sleep with her hands on her belly. Elrond smiled and closed the door behind him.
