Notes: While writing this, I followed the Tolkien's books and the two movies and made up a few things as well. My timeline does not coincide with the books, only to try to keep things short! I hope the translations are correct, if not please email me so I can make any necessary repairs. I hope to add drawings soon, having just moved I will need some time. I hope you enjoy my first fan fic I've ever written, please let me know what you think! This fan fic was also part of the www.haldir-lives.org Fan Fic Challenge.
Legolas awoke a while later. He still felt a little drunk and his head was starting to hurt. He was also incredibly thirsty. He got up on his knees and pulled Jelena's dress down to cover her. He tried to stand but his head was woozy and he had forgotten that his leggings were around his ankles and almost fell over. He pulled up his pants and went in search of something to drink… besides wine.
Jelena heard Legolas moving around. She was also still feeling the effects of the wine and sat up slowly, pulling up the sleeves of her gown. Legolas sensed she was awake. "We shouldn't have done this…"
"Why not?" Jelena said, feeling a bit sick to her stomach. Her heart began to hammer in her chest. "We both have feelings for each other. We both wanted to."
Legolas turned towards her. "We shouldn't have done this…"
"But…" Jelena felt the tears welling up in her eyes. They quickly flowed over and ran down her cheeks. Legolas had a look of surprise on his face.
"What is it? Why do you cry?"
"What do you mean? You're telling me that you are regretting what we shared and you expect me not to get upset?"
Legolas smiled at her and took her into his arms. "You didn't let me finish! We shouldn't have done this here! Someone could have walked in on us! Besides, you should be made love to on silken sheets, not a pile of straw. I do not regret anything that we have done." He kissed her, soft and passionate, holding her tight against him.
"Legolas! Please! Let go of me at once!" Legolas, startled, dropped his arms. She ran over to a bucket by the trap door, fell to her knees and threw up in it.
"So this is what I do to you?" Legolas laughed. He sat next to her and pulled the hair back from her face and held it until she was done. She wiped her mouth and put her head in his lap.
"I never want to see a glass of wine again!" she said, closing her eyes.

Thranduil and Celeborn were in Thranduil's private chamber, discussing the terms of the division of Mirkwood. Galadriel had pressed Celeborn to get things done as soon as possible so that they may go back to their home in Caras Galadhon. They would be leaving the next day. They discussed a treaty between Lothlórien and Eryn Lasgalen, one that would bind the two realms together. A treaty that would directly affect the lives of Legolas and Jelena.
"Thranduil, are you sure you want this treaty? It really is not necessary…"
"But it is necessary!" Thranduil said.
"But what about your son?" Celeborn asked. "Does he not have a say in this matter? After all it…"
"Legolas needs to no nothing right now. Besides, he is the Prince of Eryn Lasgalen and will do right by his people. I will see to it. Lwt us just keep this between you and I for now."
Thranduil looked up at the sound of someone approaching. "Ah, Maeldir, have you located my son?"
"Yes, my Lord."
"Where is he? Did you tell him that I wish to see him?"
"No, my Lord."
Thranduil gave him a cold look. "Why not? Where is he?"
"He is in the Cellars with…. the halfling."
Thranduil's face grew red. He stormed across the room the Maeldir, grabbing him by his tunic. "What are you not telling me?" He looked back at Celeborn. "And try to keep your voice down. This is between us," he said, motioning towards Celeborn.
Maeldir whispered, "I…I… couldn't tell him because…. Legolas and the halfling were…"
Thranduil cut him off with a raise of his hand. He let go of Maeldir. "Leave me!" Maeldir left the King's chamber's feeling very good about everything.
Celeborn stood up. "Is everything all right?"
"Everything is fine," Thranduil said, forcing a smile. "Would you care for another glass of wine?" Thranduil wanted another to calm himself.
Celeborn had a feeling that everything was not fine. Thranduil was holding back something. "No, thank you, I must return to Galadriel. I want to thank you again for your hospitality. We will go back to Caras Galadhon in the morning and begin with the planning. I will send a messenger as soon as possible to let you know if she accepts. Tenna' tul're." 1 Celeborn headed for the doorway with a distressed look on his face.
"Celeborn, remember, not a word to anyone, including Legolas. He will find out soon enough." Thranduil watched Celeborn leave the room. He filled his glass with wine and drank it down in one swallow. He threw the glass against the wall, shattering it into a million pieces. He stormed off to wait for his son.

Legolas helped Jelena back to her room. On the way they stopped by the kitchens and Legolas ordered some peppermint tea to be sent to Jelena's room. He got her into her room and helped her out of her gown. Legolas was tucking her into her bed when there was a knock on the door. Legolas took the tea from the servant and sat on the bed with Jelena. "Take small sips," he said. "It will help settle your stomach."
"I'm sorry to be such a bother to you," she said.
"I enjoy taking care of you!" Legolas gave her a kiss on the forehead and held her to him. He held the cup to her lips. "Drink. Now back under the covers and get some rest. I will be back shortly." He went through the door that connected their rooms. He sensed immediately that someone was in the room.
"Did you put your little plaything to bed?" Thranduil sneered.
Legolas went to a table in his room and filled a bowl with water. "What is it now, Father?" He removed his tunic and washed his hands and face. His headache was getting worse and he needed some rest.
"Again I had to have someone search you out when you should have been with me tonight. Did you enjoy yourself in the Cellars?" Legolas quickly turned to his father. Thranduil gave him a knowing smile.
"Are you going to tell me why you are here and what you want, Father, or are we going to play games?" Legolas demanded.
"Tomorrow morning I want you to escort Celeborn and his wife out of Eryn Lasgalen."
"Tomorrow? I thought they were staying longer. Why the rush?" Legolas asked.
"Well," said Thranduil, "if you had been at the meetings with us, you would know! But instead you chose to spend your time wooing a halfling! I warned you, Legolas! Do not get involved with her! If you wish, keep her as a servant. From what I hear she was serving you well!"
Legolas clenched his teeth together. "Don't ever speak of her like that again!" He crossed the room quickly and closed the distance between himself and Thranduil. "If you could just once open your heart to someone, maybe you could see her the way I do. But since your heart is cold, keep your thoughts to yourself!"
"Just remember, my son, you are of royal blood and you must keep the line pure! Your sons will be princes. I will not tolerate tainted blood!" Thranduil turned to leave Legolas' room.
"I do not think you need to worry about grandchildren, Father, for I have no plans of getting married!" Thranduil just smiled to himself and left.
Legolas was fairly sure who it was that had seen them in the Cellars. He would deal with him later. Right now he wanted to get some rest. He went back into Jelena's room and got into the bed. He pulled her sleeping form into his arms. He tried to sleep but his father's words kept hammering in his head. You are of royal blood and must keep the line pure. And children? He couldn't think about children right now. There were too many places he still wanted to explore and peoples to meet. He looked down at Jelena, her eyes slightly open. Jelena wouldn't be safe following him around Middle-Earth. But could he ever bring himself to leave Jelena behind?
Legolas lay there most of the night in deep thought. He would take Jelena to Hobbiton. There she would be with her family. The Hobbits would accept her, unlike his people. There she could find someone who would love her and give her a home that she deserved. Legolas had a pain in his heart, thinking about another holding Jelena in their arms. But in Hobbiton she would be safe. He remembered King Aragorn's words, about how he would not let Men trespass in Hobbiton. Aragorn himself swore even he would not break that rule.
After several hours of lying in bed, Legolas got up and went back to his room. He got some clean clothes and went to take a quick bath. When he was done, he went to the kitchens and fetched some rolls and fresh fruit and took it back to Jelena's room. He went to the bedside and gently caressed her face. "Good morning," he said and kissed her on the cheek.
"What's so good about it?" She was feeling quite horrible. "If I ever do something brainless like reach for a glass of wine again, smack my hand!"
Legolas laughed. "I brought you something to eat." This produced a rather loud moan from Jelena. "Some fresh baked rolls might help you feel better. Jelena, I need to talk to you." This got her attention. She looked up at Legolas, unable to tell from his facial expression what was coming next. "I have to leave in a moment to escort Celeborn and Galadriel out of Eryn Lasgalen. I will be gone for about ten days. Gimli will be here to keep you company and protect you."
p "When did you find out about this? Why can't I go with you?" Jelena said. She couldn't believe this was happening. Why did he have to go?
"My father told me after I put you to bed. It is too dangerous, Jelena. There are still a lot of orcs and spiders out there and I will not risk you getting hurt or worse."
"So I'll take a sword!"
"Please, Jelena! I do not want to go but I must. It is my duty as Prince."
"But from the way you talk, I thought you did not care about being a prince!"
"Jelena, do not argue with me on this! I will try and return as fast as possible. Arod is a fast horse. It will take around six days to get the troops out of Eryn Lasgalen and hopefully I can be back in four. I thought long about this last night. You will be journeying soon enough. I am going to take you to Hobbiton to meet your kin."
"Hobbiton!" She jumped from the bed and gave him a hug. "Thank you, Legolas, thank you!"
"You might not want to thank me just yet! The journey will be long and hard." He lifted her back onto the bed and pulled up the covers. He put the tray in front of her. "Now, try to eat something. I will try to get back to you as soon as possible." He gave her a quick peck on the cheek and went out the door without looking back. Jelena knew something was wrong. Something had changed with Legolas.
