Notes: While writing this, I followed the Tolkien's books and the two movies and made up a few things as well. My timeline does not coincide with the books, only to try to keep things short! I hope the translations are correct, if not please email me so I can make any necessary repairs. I hope to add drawings soon, having just moved I will need some time. I hope you enjoy my first fan fic I've ever written, please let me know what you think! This fan fic was also part of the www.haldir-lives.org Fan Fic Challenge.

Jelena thought she was going to faint. She looked up at Legolas who was returning his father's stern gaze. He let go of her hand and put his arm around her to steady her. "It is all right," he whispered down to her. "You are not alone anymore. I will not let go of you." He led her to where his father stood, Thranduil's arms stiff at his sides glaring at Jelena. Jelena felt anger building in her and glared back. "Father, this is Jelena, daughter of Maerdir."

"Maerdir is dead. That is impossible."

"He was one of the captives being held in Dol Guldur," said Legolas.

"Did you see Maerdir? How do you know she isn't lying?" Thranduil shot back.

"He is my father! He was kind and good, unlike you!" spat Jelena, very angry at this point. "And you can speak to me directly!"

"Fine. Why are you here in my realm?" Thranduil said, returning to his chair.

"I am here hoping to find my father's kin."

"And what makes you think they would want to be found… by a halfling," Thranduil said, a nasty smile crossing his face.

"Ada! That is enough!" shouted Legolas.

Jelena felt tears welling in her eyes. I will not let him see me cry, she thought. She slipped from Legolas' arm and turned and stomped away. Then she ran. She ran as fast as she could through all the elves that had witnessed what had just happened, all of them staring after her. She left the clearing and ran into the wood, the tears now flowing freely. She stopped suddenly, realizing she didn't know where she was and she was unarmed. She backed against a tree and slid down, sitting on her heels. What is going on! Why is this happening! she thought.

She looked up to see Legolas standing in front of her. He crouched down and lifted her to her feet and into his arms. "I am so sorry, Jelena. I should have been there when you arrived. The elves of this realm are suspicious of strangers." Legolas wiped the tears from her cheeks. "My father was cruel and hurtful, but you stood up to him!" He lifted her chin and looked into Jelena's watery eyes. "I am proud of you." Legolas was aching to kiss her. He smiled and gave her a squeeze. "I really missed you."

Jelena began to relax in Legolas' strong arms. He had a way of making her feel safe. She looked at him and smiled, tears still streaming down her face. "And I missed you as well." He kissed her on her cheek, her tears wetting his searing lips. Before he could pull away, she pressed her lips full to his.

Legolas was caught by surprise. He closed his eyes and kissed her back, tasting the saltiness of her tears. He parted her lips with his tongue and delved inside.

Jelena thought she would explode from the sensations she was feeling. His tongue played on the tip of hers. His mouth was sweet and inviting. Her stomach felt like it was doing flips inside her. She pulled herself tighter into the comfort of his arms.

Legolas ran a hand through her hair and found an ear. He traced the edge with his thumb. Jelena moaned into his mouth. He pulled her down with him onto the soft moss carpet on the forest floor. He pulled her onto his chest, brushing the hair from her face. He looked into her eyes. They were lit with desire. He had to stop!

He stood up and pulled Jelena to her feet. "Jelena, we cannot be doing this. I don't want to confuse you. You are going through a lot right now. Now that the War of the Ring is over my life has also changed. You are too important to me to risk ruining our friendship. Do you understand what I am trying to say?" He held her hands to his heart and looked her in the eyes, searching for understanding.

Jelena sighed and nodded. Her head was still spinning and she could still taste him in her mouth. "You are important to me as well," she said. She felt his heart pounding in his chest. She moved her hands across his chest, making him suck in his breath. She wrapped her arms around him, giving him a tight hug. "You are such a good friend, Legolas Greenleaf. I never want to loose your friendship." She couldn't imagine her life without him. "But I must ask you something," she said, looking him seriously in the eyes. "What is wrong with your father? Did he wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?" A smile appeared on her face, followed by a chuckle. Legolas began to laugh as well.

"Are you two quite done now?" It was Haldir. He had come in search of the two and arrived just as they were getting up off the ground. Haldir felt sorry for the two. He knew how they felt for each other. He knew firsthand what love could do to an elf. "Gimli wanted to do nasty things to your father with his axe. The dwarf was quite furious with the way he treated Jelena," he said with a humorous tone. Haldir took hold of Jelena's hand. "Jelena, you stay close by during the rest of our stay in Eryn Lasgalen. I will not let anyone be disrespectful to you!"

They went back to the clearing. Lirimaer was sitting at a table on the other side the clearing from Thranduil with a very disturbed looking Gimli. A hush fell over the crowd at the return of the prince and the halfling girl. Jelena gripped Legolas and Haldir's hands tight and held her head high. She could see Thranduil watching her out of the corner of her eye. There was a huge feast on their table and they all ate heartily. The wine on the table was left untouched.

After the feast, the tables were cleared and removed. Tents were set up in their place. The king's servants set up three tents: one for Thranduil, another for Legolas and Gimli and the third for Jelena. Haldir and Lirimaer set up their tent nearby and said goodnight to everyone. It had been a long time since they had time to themselves. "I believe you said you would owe me something for letting the dwarf share a tent with me?" Haldir said, a devilish look in his eyes. He grabbed a giggling Lirimaer and pulled her into the tent with him.

"You must be exhausted," Legolas said to Jelena. "You have had a rough day. Come, I will tuck you in!" He took her by the hand and led her to her tent. A clean soft bedroll had been set up for her. Legolas handed her a small package that was sitting next to her bedroll. "I thought this would suit you better than my tunic," he said. Jelena unwrapped the paper to find a beautiful light blue lacy nightgown. The material was soft and silky. "I'll leave you for a moment so you can put it on."

She removed her gown and pulled the garment over her head. The material felt wonderful on her bare skin. Legolas poked his head in after a moment and smiled. "Much better than the tunic!" He came in and pulled the blanket down, directing her to get in. She lay down and Legolas pulled the blanket up. He lay down next to her on his side, his head propped up on his hand. "I am truly sorry about the horrible day you had today."

"It wasn't all that bad," she said, snuggling up against him. "I got to see you again!"

Legolas put his arm around her and rubbed her back. She let out a sigh and buried her face into Legolas' chest. She loved the way he smelled like the woods. Outside, the elves were singing a beautiful song. Jelena fell quickly to sleep. Legolas also fell asleep with the scent of her rose soap in his nostrils.

Shadows of a moving form were cast on the tent. It moved around slowly, silently, until it reached the tent's opening. The flap was pulled back and Maeldir peered in. He took in the scene before him and let the flap close. "Won't your father be proud to know who you are sleeping with, my prince!"

~*~*~*~

Galadriel, Celeborn and Thranduil were still up discussing the dividing of Eryn Lasgalen. Thranduil wanted the region north of the mountains that the troops had passed earlier that day. Celeborn wanted everything below the narrows and would call it East Lórien. Everything in between would belong to the woodsmen and the Beornings

Maeldir returned. "Did you find Legolas?" asked Thranduil. Maeldir whispered into the king's ear, Thranduil's face growing red with anger.

Galadriel had had enough of Thranduil for one day. Thranduil and her never saw eye to eye. She was a Noldorin High-elf and he was Sindarin. The fact that her daughter, Celebrain, went to the Grey Havens with Thranduil's wife, Nufeniel, did not help the matter either. And now this! It bothered her greatly to see the dreadful relationship between Thranduil and Legolas. Legolas was a good soul. Thranduil was less to be desired. Nufeniel's leaving had made him bitter. Perhaps he blamed Legolas for the difficult birth Nufeniel went through that caused her to grow weary.

Galadriel touched Celeborn's arm. "I need to go rest now, my husband. Do not stay up too late," she said with a smile. She turned to Thranduil. "Thank you for your hospitality. Good night." Thranduil only nodded.

"What is it you want me to do, my Lord?" asked Maeldir.

"Wake him!"
