Notes: While writing this, I followed the Tolkien's books and the two movies and made up a few things as well. My timeline does not coincide with the books, only to try to keep things short! I hope the translations are correct, if not please email me so I can make any necessary repairs. I hope to add drawings soon, having just moved I will need some time. I hope you enjoy my first fan fic I've ever written, please let me know what you think! This fan fic was also part of the www.haldir-lives.org Fan Fic Challenge.

They rode on, coming across more burned areas of forest and finding more orcs and spiders. Jelena could see how the burned woods were affecting Legolas in the way he brutally battled the hideous creatures. Even after they were down he would strike them again with his sword or shoot them with another arrow, just for good measure. When they rode into a small clearing, they could see large eagles flying in the sky. Legolas explained to her that they were the Great Eagles of the Misty Mountains, eagles so big that someone could sit on their back and fly with them. Jelena watched them soar through the sky in awe.

As promised, Legolas started to teach her how to wield a sword the next day when they stopped and set up camp. Being her first time, Legolas decided it safer to practice with some branches which turned out to be a wise decision. After several knocked knuckles and jabs to the ribs, Legolas thought it was a good time to take a break for food.

"I am a disgrace!" cried Jelena, looking at Legolas' bloodied hands.

"It is your first time! Be easy on yourself. You will improve," Legolas said, grinning, "and I will need to find some leather gloves!"

"I am so sorry," Jelena said, taking his hands in hers, looking at his bruised and bloodied fingers. She took her water flask and washed off his hands and dried them on the hem of her dress. Legolas watched her with a smile on his face.

"Poor Master Elf!" chuckled Gimli. "Do we need to amputate?"

"Don't tease him, Gimli!" scolded Jelena. "I'm sure they hurt good. Perhaps you would like to practice with me? Perhaps I can bloody a knuckle or two of yours!"

"I meant no offense, my lady," Gimli said.

"I'm sorry Gimli. I guess I am a bit sensitive about my lessons today. I did not mean to snap at you," she said smiling at the dwarf.

"Let us get something to eat," said Legolas. "Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn said they wished to dine with us tonight." The hunting party had come across some small wild boar during the day and they had been roasting on the fire, making everyone hungry. The Lord and Lady decided to share some of their finest wine at the feast.

The three joined up with Haldir and Lirimaer and met with the Lord and Lady. They sat together, enjoying the roast pig and the wine, chatting happily amongst themselves. Legolas poured another glass of wine for Jelena, who was beginning to feel the effects. She never had wine before and this wine was very potent.

"So I hear Legolas is giving you sword lessons," said Celeborn, making Jelena choke on a mouthful of wine, spraying it out of her mouth. Gimli snickered at this, causing her to laugh. The Lord and Lady looked at each other, a small smile playing on Galadriel's lips. "They are going that good, are they," Celeborn added, cocking an eyebrow. Laughter rose from the whole group.

"She is trying very hard," said Legolas, rubbing his sore hands. "A bit too hard!"

Jelena gave him a small punch in the arm. Legolas gave her a poke in the side. Jelena tugged on his braid. Legolas yanked her ear. The two laughed, continuing to poke and prod each other and finally stopped realizing that everyone was watching them.

"I think the two of you have had entirely too much wine!" said Haldir, trying to be serious. Lirimaer turned on him, punching him in the arm, which he returned with a poke, making everyone laugh.

"So Legolas, tell me about your parents," asked Lirimaer. Everyone got quiet. Most knew it was a touchy subject, and now everyone waited for his response.

"My mother, Nufeniel, grew weary shortly after my birth. I do not remember her," Legolas said, a touch of sadness in his voice. "She went to the Grey Havens with Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel's daughter, Celebrain. My father did his best to raise me." Legolas' back stiffened as he stared off into the distance. "We do not always see eye to eye on many things." He said no more and Jelena knew not to push him. She could see his jaw was clenched.

"Let us all share another glass of wine together," Celeborn said. He motioned for a serving elf to pour more wine. Celeborn stood, holding up his glass. "Let us drink to the cleansing of Eryn Lasgalen, and to those who fought and died doing so. And also to old friends and new," Celeborn said, pointing his glass towards Jelena. Everyone stood and held up their glass in silence. Jelena almost fell over while trying to stand but Legolas caught her arm and steadied her, smiling and hugging her to him. They all downed their drinks.

After the feast was over, the Lord and Lady retired to their tent. The rest moved by the fire, feeling very good from the wine. Haldir plopped himself down on a log grabbing Lirimaer and pulling her down onto his lap. Jelena was feeling drunk. She stumbled and grabbed hold of Gimli who was also inebriated. The two fell on their backsides, laughing. Legolas took them both by the hands and pulled them to their feet. He let go of Gimli and pulled Jelena to him, laughing.

He looked down at Jelena. She had made a miraculous recovery over a short period of time. Her face had filled out along with the rest of her body. She was no longer the sickly looking bag of bones. She had turned into a lovely young woman. He looked into her eyes, his glazed and wild from the wine. He brushed a stray piece of hair from her face, twirling it around a finger. She smiled at him, her eyes sparkling in the firelight. His hand left her hair and caressed her cheek, running his thumb below her bottom lip, making her shiver. He stared into the depths of her eyes moving closer to her face….

"It is amazing how well she is looking, isn't it Legolas?" Haldir said, Legolas quickly catching himself and turning towards his friend. Legolas saw the look in Haldir's eyes even though he was smiling. "She must have a lot of her father's elvish qualities in her."

Legolas dropped his hands from Jelena's face. What am I doing, he thought. "Yes, she is doing quite well."

Jelena didn't understand a lot of what had just happened. All she knew is that it made her heart flutter when Legolas looked into her eyes like that. His eyes are the color of a clear blue sky, she thought. But there is also a fire in them! She wanted to look into them some more but something had happened. She looked over at Haldir and Lirimaer; both were quiet with sheepish smiles on their faces.

"I think I need to go to bed," Jelena said. "Goodnight everyone."

"This dwarf should be going, too," Gimli said. The two stumbled their way back to the tent, tripping over their own feet and snickering.

Jelena stopped laughing. "Gimli, did I do something wrong back there?"

Gimli stopped laughing as well. "No, lass, you did nothing wrong." Gimli really didn't know what to say. He didn't want to hurt the girl's feelings. He knew that Haldir was right to stop what was about to happen.

"Legolas, what are you getting yourself into?" asked Haldir. "You know what your father would think. He does not hold the same opinion that you do about the other races of Middle-Earth."

"I know how my father thinks, Haldir, and I don't need you to remind me!!!" Legolas turned and was about to storm off. "I am sorry, Haldir. I did not mean to yell at you. You are only trying to help."

Haldir lifted Lirimaer from his lap. He walked up to his friend and put an arm around his shoulder. "I just don't want to see you get hurt."

Legolas looked his friend in the face, his eyebrows knitted together. "I just don't know what it is, Haldir. I felt an incredible draw to get back to Mirkwood for weeks and now I have this strange feeling that it was for her."

Haldir didn't know what to say. "Just be careful, my friend. Do not let your heart get broken."

Jelena couldn't sleep. The tent was spinning. She got up and went outside to get a breath of fresh air. Legolas was sitting by himself by the fire. She walked over and sat down next to him and gave him a smile.

"I am sorry about what happened earlier," Legolas said.

"What?"

"When I tried to kiss you," he said looking away. "I don't know what I was thinking. Too much wine, I suppose. Forgive me."

"It is all right, Legolas," she said, taking his hand. "There is nothing to forgive. Besides," she said, leaning over and giving him a kiss on his cheek, "what's the harm in a kiss?"

Legolas turned and looked her square in the eye. The fire had returned, burning into her. "That is not the kind of kiss I wanted to give to you." He leaned forward, brushing his lips against hers.

The heat from his mouth made the hair on the back of her neck stand up. His arm came around her waist, pulling her against him. His tongue slid across her bottom lip, beckoning her to open her mouth. Her heart was fluttering inside her chest.

"Legolas Thranduillion." They both quickly turned. Before them stood a giant eagle. "I bring a message from your father. He wants you to come with me for he wishes to see you immediately. I have notified Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel of your departure. They will escort your friends the rest of the way. We must leave now."

Legolas stood up and helped Jelena to her feet. He had a sad look on his face but tried to smile for her. "Again, I apologize for my forwardness. It will not happen again." He brushed his fingers along the side of her face, noting the sadness in her eyes. "Gimli will protect you until we meet again, but now I must go. Goodbye!" He turned and climbed upon the back of the eagle. It leapt up into the sky, the wind from its wings almost knocking Jelena to the ground. She watched until they were out of sight, realizing she didn't say goodbye or anything to him. She went back to the crowded tent and laid down, feeling very lonely. She didn't sleep much that night. Instead she thought about the kiss and how it made her feel. Finally she succumbed to sleep, and dreamed of a Prince.
