Summary: The elves are at Helm's Deep. Mereniel, a Rivendell elf warrior, is also a healer. Will she be able to heal Haldir and herself physically as well as spiritually?
Notes:
Haldir handed Mereniel her pack and bedroll and removed the horse’s saddle. After he tethered the horse, he took Mereniel’s pack and grasped her hand, leading her away from the camp. They found a spot where the grass was thick and soft and sat upon the bedroll. Haldir rested Mereniel’s arm in his lap and untied her bandage. He tried to be as careful as possible, but the blood had fused the cloth to her wound. The wound started to bleed and Mereniel winced in pain. He held her arm out over the grass and poured water over it to loosen the bandage. He took a clean cloth and blotted her arm dry. “It is very deep.” He pressed the cloth to the wound to stop the bleeding. She felt the familiar tingle as Haldir used his healing abilities to stop the bleeding.
Mereniel smiled at Haldir. “Thank you for caring for me. I still feel horrible about you ripping your cloak up for bandages. Now you have blood all over it as well.”
“It is only a cloak!” Haldir laughed. “You worry too much.”
“But the color is magnificent on you.” She loved how it brought out the color of his sparkling blue eyes and his magnificent silver-blonde hair. She reached up and brushed his hair away from his face, tucking it behind his ear. As she pulled her hand away, Haldir grasped it firmly and turned it over, placing a kiss on her palm. He looked up at her with a seductive expression; his eyes large and bright even in the darkness. He kissed his way down her middle finger and nibbled in the tip.
Mereniel’s mouth dropped open when his tongue wrapped around her finger and he began sucking on it, his eyes never leaving hers. All tension she had about the discussion of his parents’ fate was replaced with a new tension: lust. She grew anxious as her insides began blazing with need; she wanted him now. She leaned into him so hard to kiss him that she knocked him off balance and landed on top of him.
“We have time, Mereniel,” he said with a sensuous smile.
Before he could say anything else, Mereniel pressed her lips against his. They were firm and warm and opened invitingly for him. When their tongues met, it set off a hunger deep in the pit of her stomach. She deepened the kiss, tasting the sweetness of his mouth. Her hands roamed freely over his shoulders and down his sturdy arms. She broke the kiss and straddled Haldir’s waist, her hands wandering over the rigid muscles of his chest under his tunic.
Haldir watched in amusement as Mereniel took over. The elleths that Haldir had taken as lovers had never been so bold and adventurous. He watched as she caressed a hardening nipple through the soft material of his tunic, causing him to moan. Mereniel smiled down at him and pulled the strings on the front of his tunic to expose his bare skin. Not satisfied, she reached down and tried pulling the tunic up his chest. Haldir let out a giggle as he watched her struggle. He lifted his hips and back and she managed to pull it up to his armpits, and then quickly attacked his bare skin.
She raked her nails down his chest ushering another moan and a shudder from Haldir. She leaned over him and began flicking a pebbled nipple with her tongue. Haldir growled as she began to give it playful bites. She could feel him hardening under her and grinded her bottom into him. She heard Haldir’s breath hiss as she moved on to the other nipple and felt him buck under her. She slid down him, leaving a trail of kisses in her wake. She swirled her tongue around his navel as she reached down and loosened the strings on his leggings, her hands brushing against the hardness inside.
Haldir quickly grabbed her wrists and pulled her up. “Not so fast, Faenmin!” He rolled her over so that he was on top of her. He held tightly onto her wrists and gave her a coy grin. “It is time for a bit of fun of my own!” He leaned down and pressed fiery kisses on her neck. He traced her ear with the tip of his tongue, up to the tip and bit down.
“You are not playing fair!” she laughed.
“Who said anything about playing fair?” he said, flicking the tip of her ear with his tongue. Mereniel struggled to release Haldir’s grip on her wrists. “Stop wiggling or your wound will be bleeding again,” he whispered in her ear. He kissed his way down to the opening on the front of her tunic. He pulled on the buttons fastening it with his teeth, unbuttoning the first button and placed kisses on her exposed throat. He pulled at the next button and pulled her tunic open a bit more. This time he slid his tongue down into her cleavage, making her suck in her breath. Her hands were clenching as she twisted them trying to break free. “Behave,” he said as he tightened his grip, “or I’ll make it worse for you!”
Haldir pushed her legs apart with his knees as he worked on the next button with his teeth. He ground his hips hard between her legs. Mereniel raised her hips to meet his, only to be pinned back down by his weight. Haldir pulled her shirt open with his teeth uncovering a full breast. He brushed her nipple with his tongue and blew on it, making Mereniel moan with pleasure. “Please, Haldir…” she whimpered. His mouth closed around her nipple and he sucked hard, grinding his hardened elfhood against her. He released her wrists and moved his hands down her sides. He undid the laces on her leggings and slipped his hand inside. Mereniel let out a deep groan and pushed her hips up to meet him.
“Get off her!” Déodred cried, running up. He jumped on Haldir’s back and began beating his tiny fists on him. “Get off her! You are hurting her!” he cried. “Don’t hurt her!”
Haldir rolled off of Mereniel, grabbing Déodred as he turned. “Calm down, Déodred! I am not hurting her!” Déodred thrashed and kicked in Haldir’s grip to get free and landed a blow to Haldir’s groin. Haldir was blinded by pain. He let go of Déodred who squirmed over to Mereniel as she buttoned up her shirt. Mereniel gasped as Haldir crumpled up into a ball, gagging.
“Déodred! What are you doing here?” Mereniel shouted. “Why did you do that?”
“He was hurting you!” he sobbed, upset over Mereniel’s reaction. He thought he was being brave by trying to help Mereniel. “I heard you crying!”
“I wasn’t crying,” she said, hugging Déodred to her. “Haldir…”
“Go back to the camp!” Haldir groaned.
“Déodred didn’t mean to…”
“Take him back to the camp!” Haldir growled.
She was gathering up her pack when she heard someone coming. She looked up and saw Rúmil and Orophin, running towards them, out of breath. “Déodred! I’m sorry! He got away from us!” Orophin said. He looked over at Haldir, still crumpled in a tight ball in the grass. “What is wrong with him?” He reached down towards Haldir when Mereniel stayed his hand, grimacing and shaking her head.
“Please take Déodred back to the camp,” she said. The brothers looked at each other questioningly and took hold of Déodred’s hands.
“Mereniel…” Déodred whined.
“Go!”
Orophin and Rúmil led Déodred away as he kicked at the ground. Mereniel crouched down next to Haldir and touched his shoulder. “Let me help you…”
“No!” he yelled, shaking off her hand. “I am fine!”
“No you’re not. Stop being so stubborn and let me…”
“NO! Go back to the camp! I will be there shortly. Just leave!” he moaned.
Mereniel quickly snatched up the bedroll and marched off towards the camp. _He is the most stubborn elf I know!_ she screamed in her head, leaving Haldir lying on the ground.
She found Rúmil and Orophin trying to calm down a very upset Déodred. “I thought he was hurting Mereniel so I was hitting him! I didn’t mean to hurt him so bad!” he cried against Rúmil’s shoulder. Orophin was trying to hold in his laughter. The picture of Déodred beating on Haldir was too much for him. Rúmil gave his brother a nasty look to quiet him down, while trying to hold in his own laughter.
Orophin saw Mereniel approaching and went to meet her. “What happened?” he asked. “Where is Haldir?”
“He is back there lying in the grass! Déodred accidentally kicked him…” Mereniel gave him a painful look.
Orophin grimaced, holding up his hands. “Enough said!”
“He is so stubborn!” she sneered. “I offered to help him…” Orophin coughed, trying not to chuckle. Mereniel glared at him. “I’m glad you find your brother’s pain amusing!” She stomped over to Rúmil and took Déodred’s hand. “It is time for you to get some sleep,” she said to him, trying to watch the tone of her voice. She felt bad for yelling at him; he was only trying to protect her.
“Is Haldir all right?” he asked, looking up at her with his eyes full of tears.
“He will be fine, sweetheart. Do not worry. Now get some sleep,” she said, lying him down on the bedroll. Mereniel lay down next to him and pulled him into her arms, kissing him on the back of his head. She listened to his breathing calm down and soon he was asleep. Mereniel couldn’t sleep. She lay awake waiting for Haldir.
Haldir lay on the cold ground for what seemed like hours waiting for the pain in his groin to ease. After a while the nausea settled and he was able to sit up. It took him a bit longer before he was able to stand up and walk, though a little stooped over.
He slowly walked back to the camp, looking for Mereniel and Déodred. He saw them a short distance from his snickering brothers. He bent down and picked up his pack. “Auta miqula Orqu!” he hissed at them as he limped away.
He sat on the ground behind Mereniel’s back and stroked her short hair. “Forgive me,” he said, “I did not mean to snap at you.”
“I only wanted to help you,” Mereniel sighed.
“I know,” he said, pulling a blanket out of his pack. He lay down next to her and covered the three of them up. He put his arm around her and kissed the back of her head. “Get some rest. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow.”
_A long day, indeed!_ Haldir thought as he carefully mounted his horse, his groin still throbbing. He looked back at Mereniel and Déodred; both had been very quiet that morning. He trotted over to them, the bouncing causing sharp pains between his legs.
Mereniel could tell by the look on his face that he was still hurting. “Good morning, Haldir.”
Haldir didn’t think so. At least the darkness of the sky was showing signs of letting up in the distance, which helped ease his mood. “We should be able to reach Lórien by nightfall, as long as we don’t encounter any more problems,” Haldir said. Déodred had a look of fear on his face as he peered out from Mereniel’s cloak. “What is it, Déodred?”
“I’m…sorry for…kicking you,” Déodred whispered.
Haldir forced a smile and said, “It is all right, Déodred. Just be more careful next time.” Déodred gave Haldir a sheepish smile and snuggled back into Mereniel’s arms.
Haldir rode to the front of the line and lead them towards their destination. Everyone’s somber moods faded with the disappearance of the darkened sky, all except for Haldir’s. His thoughts were on Mereniel. He found that he had feelings for her that he never had for any elleth. He reached inside his cloak and took out the lock of hair tied with the red silk ribbon. He rubbed the silky strands between his fingers with an aching heart. She was from Rivendell and he from Lórien; what kind of relationship could they have? She would be going home to Rivendell with Déodred and he would return to his border duty.
Haldir’s mood soured the longer he rode. He shifted in the saddle but couldn’t get comfortable. After riding a few hours, he stopped everyone to rest. Haldir stood by his horse and removed his water flask when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned and Mereniel pushed him up against the horse, taking his mouth with hers. Haldir was taken totally off guard. She pressed herself against him, her hands sliding down his chest. Before Haldir had time to respond, he felt her hand drop lower, over his leggings. He felt heat radiating from her hand and the pain disappearing.
Mereniel broke their kiss and smiled at him. “I thought you could use some relief, tarlanc dúnedhelnín.” She let go of Haldir and walked back towards Déodred, leaving Haldir with his mouth hanging open, to the snickers of those around him.
“Why didn’t you heal your arm?” Haldir called to her.
“And miss out on the opportunity of having you take care of me?” Mereniel responded with a laugh.
