Chapter 9 – Dreams do come true.

Haldir watched. Although his body was the image of utter calm, his mind fought the mental struggle to restrain himself as he watched Nerie give him the most beautiful smile. The spring solstice was enjoyed by all elves and Rivendell was no exception in enjoying a few days celebration. Both he and Nerie were enjoying the stalls set up to entertain and feed the visitors.

The blonde human placed some ribbon against her hair, dark sapphire that matched her eyes. Haldir nodded, a slight smile on his lips, as Nerie grinned at him then turned to the stall holder to purchase what she held.

Haldir glanced around and noted there were fewer elves than he would expect, but had not been overtly concerned about it. Over the past month, elves had passed the last haven before they went west.

Ah, the sea was strong in its calling now and he longed to follow those who left, but he had sworn he would wait for Lord Elrond to return. Though his feet itched to be gone, he would wait but he knew he had to resolve the call of his heart.

Feeling a small hand enclose his, he gazed down at Nerie, his heart lost at her token of affection. He had been true to his promise and courted his wife thoroughly and with total intent over the last four weeks. Fresh flowers were brought every day, sweet treats from the kitchens and long rides amongst the forest when the weather permitted were enjoyed by both and today was no exception.

"Thank you for the ribbons, Haldir." Nerie's voice seemed light and without care.

Haldir smiled and gently replied, "You are welcome, Lirimaer."

Over the last few weeks, Nerie had relaxed around him, holding his hand, standing closer to him and as Haldir let go of her hand and surrounded her body with his arms, he heard her sigh as she placed her head on his chest and held him. The blond Galadhrim closed his eyes and thanked the Valar for that miracle. The bustle of the fair went unnoticed for a moment as he enjoyed the embrace of his wife, something he had wondered whether or not would ever happen.

"Haldir!"

Haldir's head shot up and turned to look at the direction the shout had come from, making Nerie step back and Haldir mentally grumbled as he saw the twins stroll through the throng, both wearing the same pleasant, easy going grin. Identically dressed, one was carrying a basket.

"I have brought you lunch. Eirien is fine, so go and enjoy your picnic." The dark haired Elrohir said, humour in his voice as he glanced at Haldir, then to Nerie, who smiled widely in return and took the offered basket. She bowed her head.

"Thank you, Elrohir. Elladan. Please call me if Eirien gets fractious." Nerie asked softly.

Elrohir bowed his head in return, his smile never leaving his lips.

"I will. Now go! Enjoy this afternoon for tonight there shall be one fine feast!"

Haldir's lips twitched in humour, his eyes bright as he felt Nerie's hand grasped his and pulled him from the crowds. He followed her lead, watching her as she gracefully stepped down a little gully to an opening in the rock. Her hair, though plaited, glinted in the bright sunlight and the Galadhrim smiled at his luck.

Soon, the picnic was laid and both ate till sated, giggling at the antics of jugglers they could spy from their hidden vantage. Haldir had not felt so relaxed for over two hundred years. Always the guardian of Lorien, his responsibilities had held his emotions in check. Frivolities and fun were only gained on the rare occasions that he was in the city when the solstices were celebrated, but now it didn't matter. He was free of Lorien and his responsibility there and though he missed his brothers deeply, Haldir knew his destiny was with this captivating woman who held his heart.

"Haldir?"

Haldir jolted, the soft voice nudging him from his private thoughts. He quickly saw his beloved gazing at him, her face carrying an expression of concern.

"Are you alright?"

Haldir snorted in mild amusement and nodded, his pale blue eyes gazed lovingly at his wife and he gently reached up to push an errant strand of hair away from her cheek, before gently grazing her skin with his knuckle.

"Aye, a'maelamin. I was just thanking who ever was listening in giving me such a wonderful wife." He murmured deeply.

Nerie blushed, much to Haldir's enjoyment for he loved to see those cheeks pink at his endearments. A harsh cry above them made them both look up to see two mountain eagles soaring above one of the waterfalls. Beautiful majestic creatures, wings outstretched as they caught the currents and swooped again and again.

Haldir felt pressure and looked down to see Nerie had shifted her position and had leant back against him to watch the flying spectacle and inwardly struggled not to crush her body against his. Trying to ignore the tightening of his breeches, he shifted his body so that his legs lay each side of her hip, his hands slipping around her waist, his fingers entwining amongst hers. Without realising, his hands caressed the soft skin of Nerie's palm causing her to glance back at him and give him the most endearing smile and Haldir's heart warmed as Nerie became enwrapped in the blonde Galadhrim's embrace.

Nuzzling his face against her hair, the smell of jasmine intoxicating, Haldir moved his face lower so that his nose stroked the nape of Nerie's neck only to find Nerie had sighed deeply and moved her head shamelessly so that more flesh was available to enjoy.

With a small grin, Haldir gently kissed the soft skin, wondering how long he could endure this torment. Raging desire ran through his veins making his groin ache as his teeth tenderly nipped its way up his beloved's neck so that he came to her ear. With a gentle growl, he enveloped the lobe with his mouth and sucked gently causing Nerie to shiver against his body.

"Haldir . . ." Nerie breathed as Haldir's tongue laved the soft flesh of her ear, his teeth grazing sensitive skin making Nerie turn in his arms and at once, Haldir found his lips slide across hers. The sensations built to a tortuous peak as her mouth opened, inviting him to drink her passion and he paused, for a split second, before claiming her mouth with his, a low guttural moan escaping his chest.

Arms encircled his neck as Haldir explored Nerie's sweet mouth, his tongue tracing each nuance as if to remember what he had lost.

What he had almost lost.

At that, Haldir pulled away and looked down at the frail human that lay in his arms, her lips swollen and her face flushed in passion, her eyes dark against the blonde lashes.

"Nerie . . ." He began, but Nerie pulled her body up so her face rested against his, her mouth but scarce away from his.

"Shh, Haldir. If I was frightened of you, would I be here?" she whispered.

Haldir shook his head gently and opened his mouth to speak, but Nerie kissed him then murmured against his lips, "I love you. I still love you. I will always love you."

Nerie kissed Haldir again, her lips soft against his, then she pulled back to smile gently at him.

"You are my husband. What the past can do is show us mistakes we have done but WE are not a mistake. The Valar have tested us though the reasons are not clear to me as to why. What matter's my love, is that we grow from this. We become stronger because of it. You have shown me such love and courage over the last few weeks that every day I thank the Valar for giving me your grace and your beauty."

At this, Haldir snorted with amusement and blushed, for no one had ever called him beautiful before and Nerie grinned at him, then twisted slightly so that she knelt in front him, her hands resting on his.

"You alone makes my heart sing with joy. You alone fill that void where emptiness stands. You, Haldir."

Haldir felt overwhelmed that his wife, this passionate, strong willed yet beautiful human could ever need him as much as he needed her.

"I wish I could share the elvish binding with you Nerie. We are joined in all but that and my heart cries out for the loss." Haldir began, then paused as his hands slipped from hers so they rested on either side of her face. Strong digits roamed her face; dark grey eyes followed their trail. "When you eventually pass Nerie, I will follow for I could not bear to be parted from you, even in death." Haldir whispered.

"Haldir . . ." Nerie breathed tears in her eyes making them shimmer but Haldir kissed her gently.

"I knew this when I found you. This I knew when I joined with you. This I accept now so that I may enjoy to the full, what the Valar have given me. I am happy knowing that I follow you coramin, where ever that destiny may take us." Haldir continued, then his mouth took hers in such deep passion that both clung to each other for those long minutes, not wanting to part from the embrace.

Neither expected the shout that broke their hold. They glanced up to see a grinning twin.

"Eirien is wanting what I, unfortunately, cannot give. Sorry to disturb you but Erestor is now quite distracted himself!" Elrohir called.

Haldir glanced at Nerie, who burst into giggles, and Haldir smiled.

"We are coming." Nerie laughed as she gathered the blanket and Haldir grabbed the basket, then both paused to kiss each other, their eyes locking briefly, as did their hands.

"Lirimaer."

"A'mealamin."

Haldir panted, his sword arm aching as he watched Arvarno carefully, stalking around his opponent, practice sword in hand. Throwing his arm upward, he deflected an overhead feint and parried it well, smiling at the strength returning to his body.

"You are getting better Haldir. You could never have done that a few weeks ago." Arvarno panted with a grin.

Haldir returned the smile, as he stood tall and stretched, indicating the practice was over. His arm ached as he dropped the sword into the dirt and rubbed his muscles absently. Arvarno watched with concern.

"Have you hurt yourself?"

Haldir chuckled at his friend's concern. Arvarno was becoming more like a mother hen each day he shared with him but he didn't mind for he knew he owed Arvarno more than his life.

"Nay, I ache that is all. Nothing that a massage or a hot bath would -."

Haldir was interrupted by a baby's cry and he glanced upwards to the rooms he had shared with Nerie. After a few seconds, the cry subsided.

Arvarno watched Haldir's reaction and was reminded of earlier that morning. They had gone to dining room for breakfast and Nerie was already there, talking to Erestor whilst one of the twins held Eirien, cooing at her to make her smile. Haldir's face shone with pride as the dark haired Peredhil held out Eirien for him to hold. Haldir nodded his thanks, as he sat next to the twins and smiled at his daughter who gurgled at him.

Arvarno had watched while he ate his breakfast as Nerie glanced at Haldir, her eyes flitting to and from Erestor to Haldir and back again. Haldir gazed between Eirien and Nerie, his eyes full of love that Arvarno was almost embarrassed to see it. When they left, Haldir gave Nerie their daughter and lightly kissed her fingers. The dark haired March Warden saw the smile that Nerie had given Haldir and had to turn away for that smile was Haldir's alone and he felt no one else should see it.

"She is fine Haldir. Eirien is safe." Arvarno assured, Haldir moving towards the door bringing him back to the present.

Haldir snorted but his lips twitched at a smile. If Arvarno only knew what happened only hours earlier . . .

"I know. Do you think she has found the flowers I left at the door?" said Haldir casually, trying hard not to think of the kiss they had shared.

Arvarno had picked up the fallen sword and had carried both to the steps, placing them carefully down next to the water pitcher. Picking up the water skin and taking a mouthful of water, he glanced back up at Haldir and swallowed.

"I reckon every elf in Rivendell heard you banging on that door, Haldir. Did you have to knock so loudly?" he chided gently.

Haldir took the offered skin from his friend and drank swiftly, then wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and grinned.

"Aye! How else will she know they were there? I wanted her to see them freshly picked, not laid on the floor for hours on end!"

Arvarno snorted.

This was another thing that amused him. Many mornings he had walked with Haldir to gain the lily of the valley, wild hyacinth, and other spring blossoms that lay scattered around the woodland of Imladris. But though he was amused to see Haldir walking proudly with the small tied posy and place it carefully into the doorway of Nerie's rooms, he also respected the blonde Galadhrim deeply, for only Haldir would have come back from the brink to bloom again once more.

"I think we can safely say they were not left forgotten, Haldir," Arvarno grinned in amusement and took a deep breath, adding, "But surely Nerie must have run out of pitchers to put her flowers in by now?"

Haldir's mouth twitched, humour in his eyes as he slipped his tunic over his head.

"She will gain more attention from me, Arvarno, later today."

Arvarno nodded, as he picked up the swords, water skin, and tunic and followed Haldir to his own rooms. Placing the items onto the table as he entered, Arvarno slipped his tunic on and closed the clasps.

"Yes, so I understand it and it should be full of fun, knowing the twins. I heard the best musicians have been asked to play at the masked ball this evening. I hope you got your costume sorted out." The dark haired warden smiled as he jauntily waved his hand around as if holding some fine mask and flourished it around making Haldir chuckle.

"I was given fair warning by Erestor two days ago. I have ordered a new outfit and a mask for this evening. Your costume will be as subtle as ever?" Haldir asked as he grabbed towels and clean clothing.

Arvarno gave him a sly smile as he straightened.

"Aye. Black and silver in colour but I will tell you nought else. I have my eye on capturing a certain library assistant this evening." he sniffed.

Haldir smiled at his friend but his thoughts were of Nerie and the kiss they had shared earlier that day.

Nerie inhaled deeply at the sweet scent of her flowers again and smiled as she listened to Erestor as he explained why elves celebrate spring solstice. The counsellors fingers lay entangled in Eirien's grasping hands as she lay on the rug, Erestor stretched out at her side.

"So you celebrate the change like my people, though we did not have masked balls."

Erestor nodded, his dark hair slipping over his shoulders, causing the counsellor to push the errant hair behind his ears.

"We have had slightly more experience at them." He joked, then his face turned serious for a second.

"I can see how you are with Haldir. Do you feel safe with him? Are you sure?" he asked.

Nerie turned to see her guide seem so solemn and smiled warmly at him, then quickly walked to his side, she knelt down and kissed the dark haired counsellor on his brow causing him to blush and fluster.

"I am sure, Erestor. I need to do this…we need to do this." She murmured reassuringly.

Still with a blush on his cheeks, Erestor nodded, then with a small tickle of her tummy; he left Eirien and stood, brushing his tunic with his long fingers.

"Then I will let you change. I will collect you in two hours. I have arranged for Celair to attend again this evening so that Eirien will be cared for."

Nerie nodded as she watched Erestor make his way out.

"Thank you meleth. I am grateful!" she called and heard the click of the door. Turning, she laughed to see her daughter gazing at her, her blue eyes so much like her father.

"And you . . . " she giggled as she crawled over to her daughter, who smiled in response, "Will have your Ada back real soon."

~*~*~*~

The night was warm despite the spring air but the night was clear. So beautifully clear that Haldir could swear he could see every star that had ever been born as he gazed upwards into the dark sky. He had dressed in Rivendell finery, velvet, and heavy silks in the hues of a summer day. Pale sky in tunic, and deep blue over tunic and leggings. His mask was one of a hawk, lifelike in its appearance, but only covered his eyes, brow, and nose.

Music was drifting, its beat soft, as elves and some humans milled together, smiling and chatting with old friends. But Haldir hadn't come to chat or smile with friends…he wanted his wife. He wanted to be back where he belonged, at her side, protecting her, loving her so deeply and so fully that she would never doubt again.

A smart clap on his shoulder brought him out of his reverie and he turned his head to see Arvarno, his eyes and nose covered with the mask of a wolf, also looking at the sky, then turn to face him, a cheeky grin on his lips.

"Stargazing will not get the girl." Arvarno teased and Haldir chuckled softly, following his friend's lead down the steps and into the coloured lights that lit the area decorated for the ball, nodding to familiar faces. It was then that Haldir stopped suddenly, his eyes lighting on a beautiful female dressed in the palest of creams, sparkling gems around the hem and neckline. Her blonde hair loose but curled around her shoulders as her face was covered by the daintiest of masks, a wren, but Haldir knew who it was instantly.

"Nerie . . . " he breathed softly, his body tensing with slowly rising heat as he watched his wife seemingly glide into the clearing, her hand on Erestor's. Several of the humans watched her, more out of intrigue, for they had not seen a human dressed so finely. A human who's hand was guided by one of the most respected elves in Rivendell. Haldir watched Nerie as a gentle smile tilted her lips as she walked towards him. His heart felt full of longing when at last she stood in front of him, Erestor obviously proud of the human woman whom he had brought.

"I believe this is your wife, March Warden." Erestor nodded, his voice gentle but full of respect.

Haldir bowed in return, his eyes only glancing at the counsellor who stood in front of him.

"Aye, mellonnin. Indeed she is." Haldir replied proudly.

Haldir watched as Erestor departed from them, leaving chance for some time alone before the feast began. He watched Nerie blush under her mask and let his hands drift upwards to entwine a blonde curl amongst his fingers as the other hand rested on her cheek and felt its warmth.

"You are the most beautiful, the most charming, the most alluring creature that I have ever had the good fortune to gaze upon, Nerie." Haldir whispered deeply.

"Haldir. You are always so full of charm, you know that?" Nerie giggled then gasped as her husband pulled her to him, her hands on his chest as she felt the heat from his body through the silk and velvet.

Haldir lowered his face so that his lips gently slid over hers, the softness to which he could never get enough of. As the gentle kiss finished, he opened his eyes to see the darkness of Nerie's and was lost in them.

"You are always my greatest prize, Nerie. Only you hold my heart. I can't dream without you, my love." Haldir murmured against Nerie's lips before brushing her mouth again, letting this kiss deepen as his arms surrounded his wife so that she was pressed firmly against him, his arousal now hard and wanting but Haldir did not want to take Nerie away, not just yet. So, reluctantly, Haldir withdrew but he had a gentle smile on his lips. Gently grasping Nerie's hand, he gathered it so it was tucked around his arm.

"Let us enjoy the feast for I have a surprise later." Haldir said, as he guided Nerie to the steps up to the house, his heart pounding against his chest.

~*~*~*~

Arvarno sat on one of the many balustrades, thoroughly dejected. For over the past hour he had strolled around the guests and inhabitants of Imladris looking for the one elleth who made his whole body warm at the merest sight but tonight it seemed as if he was out of luck to meet Gwilwileth.

His heart lightened as his memory showed him the pale blonde hair that swayed around her hips when she lifted a book up onto a shelf. Her face whose innocence made him feel protective and honour bound. Pale blue eyes that seemed to pierce his soul with a single glance and laughter that made him feel safe and content but this night was not a night to share with her.

Sighing deeply and feeling a little sorry for him self, Arvarno allowed the presence of the woods wash over him. Forever he was happiest amongst nature, and though the woods of Lorien were very accommodating, it wasn't home. . It wasn't the woods he had grown up and loved so deep in his heart. It wasn't his Imladris. So deep was he in his thoughts that he did not hear the soft tread, not the scent of roses in the air.

It was the gentle cough that brought him back to reality to see someone standing next to him.

Gwilwileth, the Rivendell library assistant he had been searching for!

She stood to just about his chin, the pale azure eyes showed humour behind the swallow mask she wore, her hair worn lose and for once Arvarno was lost for words.

"I heard you were looking for me, Warden." Her soft voice enquired as the head tilted upwards further and Arvarno gulped.

"I have, Gwil. I was wondering if you would have done the honour of being my lady for the feast but it seems . . ." the dark haired elf glanced up as the music had begun. The feast had started without them.

Gwilwileth smiled gently and placed her small hand onto Arvarno's, making his heart flip flop.

"I am not hungry, Arvarno." Gwil whispered.

Arvarno looked at the hand that rested on his and made a decision. Never a fair maid caught by faint heart…

"Gwil? Would you walk with me a while? We can join the feast later… would you like that?"

A warm smile lit the blonde elf's lips as she entwined her arm around the wardens.

"I would love to, Arvarno. I would love to." Came the soft reply, a hint of humour in the voice.

~*~*~*~

Haldir's face was still as he listened to Lindir sing. The bard's voice beautiful as it seemingly entwined itself in the very air itself, but this was not the reason why Haldir was so still. Nerie's hand had slipped from his and rested on his leg, her fingers absently stroked his inner thigh making his body heat in such ways he thought not possible. His body held its breath while her fingers weaved their magic, making his toes curl in his boots.

Thank the Valar the feast would be ending soon!

Not soon enough for the blonde galadhrim, who led Nerie outside, when the it was respectable to leave, nodding his respect to Erestor and the twins. Arvarno was nowhere in sight but Haldir had other things to worry about than the whereabouts of his friend.

Leading Nerie down to a path that lead into the forest, she paused and glanced at Haldir, a questioning look on her face.

"Come with me melethnin. It is my surprise for you. You are safe… saes.trust me." Haldir whispered, squeezing her hand to reassure.

Nerie smiled and followed Haldir's lead, walking through the damp vegetation and smelt the mouldy leaves underfoot. He guided her carefully and slowly until they came to a small lake, to the left a waterfall that fed it. As Haldir gazed at it for a few moments, he then turned to the blond human at his side.

"This place reminds me of home. The place where I first met you. I have brought you here to remind us both of where we came from and how we got here now." Haldir smiled gently as he raised his hands to caress and hold Nerie's beautiful face. With a gentle twitch of his fingers, the mask slipped up and over her head. It was then that he felt the same being done to his and closed his eyes as it covered them. With eyelids still shut, he felt Nerie move only to have his lips covered by hers and groaned, his groin instantly tightening yet again. He lowered his face so that she did not have to stretch up and as the kiss deepened, his tongue swirling strongly against hers, he dropped his arms so that they enfolded her within his strong protective embrace.

This is where she should be, he thought, in my arms…always.

After several minutes, Haldir released his hold and smiled coyly, then grasped her hand and pulled her along the pebbled beach of the lake, the moonlight shimmering on the water like silver.

Less than a hundred paces; Haldir saw the place he had set up. A nurtured place, willow entwined into a good size, over eight feet high and shaped like an egg with a small oval entrance facing the lake. This was a place only known to the Peredhil family and Haldir would be forever thankful to the twins.

As he sat Nerie down onto the soft cushions he had piled earlier in the day, along with the blankets, candles and the bottle of wine and goblets, he lit each candle slowly and made the willow hideaway cosy with warm light. When finished, he stood still for a few moments just drinking in the sight that sat before him. Nerie had lounged herself as if a princess on the cushions, her hand raised so that it rested alongside her head as her eyes followed every movement of the tall elf. Now, she just watched him, a gentle tilt on her lips telling him all he needed to know.

Quickly dropping down next to her, he reached over and gained the goblets and wine and soon both were sipping the fine white from a nearby winery. Lord Elrond had good tastes and the wine was exquisite and was still surprisingly cold.

As the blonde warden snuggled into the pillows, his arm surrounding Nerie's shoulders causing her to rest her head against his chest, he smiled to himself. The moon was beautiful, full and pale cream and he was sure it was the most beautiful moon he had ever seen. The light so bright that he could clearly see details of rocky crags and the woodland that surrounded them. The distant sound of the waterfall the only thing to break the silence, that and the gentle breath of his beloved.

"It is beautiful here," Haldir murmured as he placed his glass down and kissed Nerie on the top of her head, causing her to stir against his chest and look up at him, her head resting on his arm, and smiled.

"You are beautiful." She murmured, her azure eyes matching the burning gaze of his own.

Haldir lowered his face to hers and gently slid his lips over her soft cheek then nuzzled sideways to her lips and claimed them, gently at first, then more demanding.

Now, it was time to show her how much he loved her.

Haldir knew this as his body rolled gently and heard the whimper escape from Nerie's lips.

Now it was time to repair the heartache.

~*~*~*~

Arvarno felt his clothes were too tight against his chest, his heart beating hard against his ribs as his fingers entwined with Gwilwileth's. Never had he dreamed that such an occurrence could be real and now, here he sat in one of the arbours of Celebrian's gardens with an elleth that made his blood run hot and made his palms sweat. He listened to Gwil as she talked about how she had tried to get to the feast earlier but had an urgent request from Lord Elrond to finish transcribing some sindarin scripts.

It was then that Arvarno glanced down to see that her hands did indeed have ink over them and he heard the elleth gasp then try to pull her hands away.

"Oh…oh how embarrassing! My hands are covered in ink! What must you think of me?" She cried, clearly distressed to be seen at an important feast day with dirty hands but the warden held firm.

Her dedication to duty, her promise to fulfil the Lord's request, had impressed Arvarno deeply. Grasping her hands tightly, he raised them up to his hot lips then catching and holding her eyes, murmured, "I love your fingers."

He then began to kiss each and every fingertip and heard the soft sigh. Her hands lessened their grip and fright response so that they rested softly in his own. Arvarno felt every paper cut, the calluses from the pages and tasted the ink on his tongue as he laved the tender skin. When Gwil's eyes darkened sufficiently, the warden slid the fingers away from his mouth, only to lean forwards to capture the elf maiden's lips with his own only to moan softly when she responded.

As he pulled back, Arvarno blushed.

"Gwil, I . . . I mean." And was instantly silenced by a less reticent kiss.

"Shhhh" came the reply as her tongue slid over his top lip, making Arvarno's blood rush with need.

And for a good few hours, all that could be heard from the garden was gentle giggles and soft sighs.

~*~*~*~

Haldir revelled in softness of Nerie's skin as it slid next to his, her deep sighs telling him his attentions were appreciated. His arousal lay against Nerie's hip as he gently grazed her breast once again with his teeth, nipping lightly only to kiss softly where he had just pinched the tender flesh.

Nerie's hand on his back stroked and scraped, fingernails gently used only to heighten the march wardens impassioned state as another moan escaped her lips. One of his hands lay entwined in her hair under her neck, the other languidly stroking her thigh at the juncture of body to leg. The blonde human's body reacted faithfully to his touches and he felt humble but also incredibly pleased that he was able to share pleasure such as this with another.

Taking her mouth with his own, his fingers slid up to gently grasp the soft mounds of her breast as he slid his tongue possessively into her waiting sweetness. The taste of wine still lingered on her tongue as it drifted slowly with his, its tantalising dance only heightening Haldir's passion even more.

Descending to her neck, Haldir smiled at Nerie's quiet whimpers, which grew with each nuzzle, lick, and bite. While he made his way slowly, so slowly downwards, Nerie's fingers attempted to grasp his hardened flesh but he stopped her at every turn, knowing that this was the time for her. He could wait. He would show her just how much she meant to him. Finally, when he could take no more, he rose upwards, grasped both hands gently, and placed them above her head.

"These stay here. They are not to move. Saes Nerie…do this…for me… saes?" he gasped, raining soft kisses over her lips.

"Yes." Came the simple answer and Haldir smiled gently at his wife.

"I want to pleasure you. You and Eirien are the two things that keep me alive here. You alone are my saviour, beloved. I want to show you how much you mean to me." Haldir's voice was quiet but firm and brooked no argument.

So, Nerie lay, her hands above her head in quiet but blissful surrender for Haldir's lips covered her own as did his body, his reassuring weight on hers for the first time that evening. Nerie allowed him to slide between her legs, his arousal just out of reach to any part of her flesh but she could feel his heat.

Both of his large hands began to roam as he drew up and knelt between her legs, leaning over every so often to kiss or nuzzle a juncture or mound of soft skin, making Nerie cry out. With a lopsided smile, Haldir made Nerie turn over so that she lay on her front, her head to one side. As she lay there, he gazed longingly at her, the gently dip of her back to the swell of her buttocks made his arousal twitch and jump.

Haldir had to shut his eyes to stop himself from sheathing himself into her. To make her scream in ecstasy as he took her to new heights of passion. He could smell her sex; the sweet scent intoxicating and he longed to bury his face into her wetness as his hands slid down to dwell over the soft muscular mounds of her buttocks.

With deliberate care, his fingers slid down further so that they ended up at her feet, only to come back up the inside of her thighs. This he did repeatedly, all the while listening to the soft sighs and moans that Nerie gave. With almost a wicked smile, on the last pass upwards, his fingertips dwelt around the heat of her sex, the wetness pooling against the pale hair and that was enough…

"Raise your hips a little." Haldir murmured as he shifted his body so that his lay, face down, near flat on the pillows and waited until Nerie had presented herself to him, her sweet flesh dark against the pale hair. With slow and lazy sweeps, Haldir licked her from the front to rear of her heat, drinking in the taste of his wife as he buried his tongue deep into her core making Nerie squirm but Haldir's hands kept her hips still.

Soft cries came as Haldir teased and suckled, using both his nose and mouth to bring Nerie to completion. While her body writhed as she climaxed, he felt her muscles clench and flutter against his tongue and had to hold himself still, for he knew it would not be long before he would have to succumb to the need to bury himself into her.

With one long lasting swipe of his tongue, he allowed Nerie to rest back down on the pillows, her legs and bottom wet from their combined juices. Haldir growled as he playfully nipped the soft flesh at the juncture of buttock and leg, massaging both mounds with his hands as his body travelled upwards, his hot wet tongue making a delicious trail up Nerie's back and sensitive spine.

His attentions soon had her squirming under him; her undulating body was almost the undoing on him as he rested himself against her, his full weight taken on his arms. His hard arousal now sat, slickened between Nerie's legs and with the gently squirming and the warm wet heat, Haldir growled again as he buried his face into the nape of Nerie's neck. Her soft hair entangled with his own as his lips nuzzled the sensitive flesh, making Nerie whimper with need.

"Turn over." Haldir commanded as he lifted his body from his wife, allowing her to wriggle around, her arms still above her head.

Haldir saw Nerie's eyes dark, her mouth open and pink but her lips were dry from her gasping and he smiled as he dipped a finger into a nearby goblet and moisten her mouth with the wine. When sufficiently wet, Haldir's mouth slid over hers, his tongue delving deeply into her waiting warmth.

"Haldir…" Nerie moaned as the blonde elf's mouth left hers, licking moisture onto her lips, then to leave a damp trail down his wife's jaw line, then to dip into the hollow of her neck, then to the swell of her breasts yet again. Haldir kept himself from lowering himself onto Nerie as he buried his face into the cleft between her globes as he eased his hips down to rest against the cushions, his arousal pressed against him, making him groan with tight frustration.

"Saes…my love…please…torture me no more…." Nerie said huskily as she attempted to raise Haldir from where he lay, and as he gazed up to look at his beautiful dream, he knew the time was right.

With almost a shy smile, Haldir slid up Nerie's sweat-slickened body, his arousal sliding up her thigh causing intense tingles to rush up into his stomach. Finally, resting against the moist heat, Haldir sheathed himself fully, the hot tightness of Nerie's body only fuelling his desire to make Nerie his and only his. His tongue dove into her mouth and matched his slow rhythm as he slid slowly out only to bury himself yet again.

Repeatedly, the dance continued, his tongue echoing his hips, plunging and retreating until the pace became too much. He felt her tighten, her body arched against him as the climax begun but he held back. Gritting his teeth and controlling his body, he allowed Nerie to fly, her body quivering around his length causing Haldir to groan deeply against Nerie's neck, the sweat slowly sliding down his back making his muscles twitch.

As Nerie relaxed onto the cushions, he could feel her smile against his shoulder as her hot breath warmed his skin.

"You never ca . . ."

Nerie's soft enquiry was cut short by Haldir's lips on hers yet again as he tilted his hips, pushing his still hard arousal into her and making her gasp.

"You can move your hands." Haldir murmured then moaned deeply when he felt those warm, comforting arms surround his torso and stroke his now highly sensitive skin, causing his body to shudder in response.

With Nerie free to move, this time the lovemaking was more intense, more desperate as she clung to him, feet crossed over his muscular back. Soft moans and the tightening of her body against his told Haldir all he needed to know and this time he would fly with his love.

Burying his face into her neck, eyes shut, Haldir allowed the held emotions go in one final rush as he felt his thighs tighten with imminent release. His blood boiled in his veins, his hips relentless in their task to take them both over the edge to utter nirvana and as Nerie cried out, Haldir's orgasm took over, his essence hot inside and out as he buried himself into Nerie, her name on his lips.

While his body still shook, Haldir held her close to him as he marvelled at the pleasure he could feel with this small female. One who had seen so much pain and anguish. She had bore his child and had cared for him when he most needed comfort. His heart swelled with intense love and pride. Unsure to what else to say that would show her how he felt, his thoughts drifted to the binding ceremony he had longed to partake and with a lingering kiss murmured.

"You are my heart, my life, my soul, my love. May we never be parted."

And was rewarded by the sweetest kiss of all.

Arvarno gently twisted the soft pale gold hair in his fingers as he gazed lovingly down at Gwilwileth. Her hair lay around her head, mussed from their lovemaking and the bloom of pink that still lay on her cheeks. She smiled gently at him, raising a hand to stroke his face with one gentle stroke.

"I had no idea you felt this way, Ro." She whispered, her eyes sparkling with passion and excitement.

"Neither did I, my love. You are an enigma to me." The dark haired warden chuckled then stopped abruptly, his face turned upwards…

Voices!

With a glance down he could tell Gwil had heard them too.

"We must go . . .. NOW." Arvarno hissed a hint of a smile on his face for the fact of being caught in the lady's garden was almost too embarrassing but also very exciting.

"My room is too far." Gwil replied quietly as she gathered her clothes and clung to them, trying, and failing to protect her modesty.

Arvarno felt his groin tighten and closed his eyes to control his body.

There was plenty of time for THAT later.

Arvarno opened his eyes and focused himself to where he was, then pointed to an area hidden by bushes and would not be seen by anyone who came in the normal way.

"My rooms are just over there."

Gwil smiled and grabbed his hand.

"Let us go then," she giggled as she pulled the dark elf along, "I am getting cold on the grass!"

And Arvarno followed with a huge smile on his face.

Haldir rubbed his lips gently on the nape of his beloved wife's neck as she slept, wrapped safely in his arms. He wished that the moment would last forever, his heart held by this fragile human but not for one second did he regret his decision to join. Too long had he been alone. Too long had he suffered his deepest fears in silence but not anymore. The blond Galadhrim sighed deeply and relaxed further into the cushions, attempting to draw Nerie closer to him. His eyelids fluttered, his last glance at a bright white star that shone almost protectively over them both and smiled at the thought.

After a few moments, Haldir's mind drifted but something was wrong. It seemed too light. Surely dawn had not arrived so early?

Opening his eyes, he saw a female being surrounded in a glowing aura, her smile one of utter gentleness and love. He gasped and sat bolt upright, then turned when Nerie didn't move.

"Nerie?" Haldir shook his wife gently but she did not wake. Becoming concerned, he was about to shake her again when a soft voice entered the glade.

"She will not wake, Haldir, for it is you I wish to see."

Haldir stared back at the light and determined the features. She was beautiful, hair pale, like moonlight and her face one of the fairest he had ever seen. She seemed familiar and yet a seemed a being of great power. It was then he realised who stood before him and he began to tremble in awe.

"Elbereth?" he whispered, his eyes widening as his heart began to bounce against his ribs. He then bowed his head in reverence, his hand raised and placed over his heart.

The shining goddess smiled beautifully as she sat down on the edge of the opening to the willow arbour.

"Do not fear, Haldir of Lorien." She began her voice gentle like summer rain.

"The Valar have heard your prayers and sought to try you. For that I apologise, for what you have both shared has been too harsh and at times unfair, even to me. Knowing that, I am aware of your deepest desire, Haldir, and I wish to grant you that wish."

"My . . . my wish?" Haldir stammered as he raised his eyes, almost unwilling to look upon the goddess that stood before him. At first he was shocked, then stunned at her words. What did she wish to give him?

She smiled gently, a soft chuckle escaping from her lips.

"Aye, brave Haldir. Your wish. I know you love this woman. We felt all your heart ache and your shame, but also your joy. I know you want to share the elvish binding with her and complete your love. I will grant you that wish."

"But . . . she is human." Haldir began but was cut short. The goddess raised her hand slowly as she nodded.

"I cannot make her a full elf, Haldir. Even the Valar do not have that power but I give her the gift of Peredhil. Half elf is she now and can choose to go west to live with you and love you till the ends of time, or to stay here and die. I know where her heart lies, Haldir, and I see long life and happiness for you both."

Elbereth stood slowly and entered the arbour. Placing her hands on Nerie's sleeping form, she glanced at the Galadhrim and smiled softly, then looked down at Nerie.

"I give you love and life, Nerie, daughter of Arlan and Nekita. May you both fulfil your dreams." She murmured then the goddess's light flared instantly only to disappear.

Haldir blinked several times, white spots floated against the dark as he heard a faint female voice whisper on the breeze.

"She is your hearts desire, Haldir of Lorien. Love her well."

He felt Nerie shift against his body and looked down to see she had woken from her sleep. As she turned, he saw a small change in her looks and with a gentle finger, lifted her pale hair and stared.

"What is it, Haldir? What is wrong?" Nerie asked, her hand coming up to feel then gasped.

"My ears!" she cried, her eyes wide with fear, for they were now extremely sensitive and . . . pointed?

What had happened?

Haldir smiled gently as he slowly enveloped the ear into his mouth, taking its pointed tip and rubbing it with his tongue. She was indeed half elven. The Valar had made a wonderful decision. It was then he tasted the saltiness of tears and raised his head to see Nerie was softly weeping. Her hand softly touching her ear as if it was alien to her and of course, it was!

Encircling her with his arms, Haldir held Nerie close, his eyes shut at the gift they had been given. Pulling back, he gazed lovingly at his wife and told her of the visit and why she had changed. Nerie just looked at him, stunned.

Peredhil? Half elven?

"What does this mean?" She asked when she finally found her voice.

Haldir kissed Nerie long and deep, stroking her face with a finger across her brow and along to her ear, making her tremble.

"It means," he replied, nuzzling her lips with his own, "that you are now immortal and will not pass, Nerie. We have each other forever. It means we can share everything. It means Eirien will always have her Nana and Ada."

"I will not die?" Nerie asked, her voice shaking from shock. She had never dreamed something like this would happen. Long nights had she wondered what it would be to grow old while her beloved remained young in her eyes and what Haldir would do when she passed. Earlier he had declared he would die along with her and that declaration broke her heart for she did not wish him to pass. Now, it had all changed.

With a shaking hand, Nerie raised her hand as she watched Haldir shake his head, consternation on his face. She sought to reassure him and so stroked his strong features gently.

"We have forever to share, beloved. I cannot even comprehend . . ." Nerie's words were cut short as Haldir kissed her long and hard, love and fear mixing into both as they held each other for long moments. When Haldir lifted his face, he smiled gently.

"Bind with me?" he whispered his one wish near at hand and he hoped that she felt the same, for once bound, it could never be undone. Souls entwine and become one once the intimate ceremony was undertaken and Haldir waited with baited breath but his heart melted when he heard her answer.

"Yes."

Haldir loved Nerie fully and deeply, each causing passion to rise to a higher, newer level. Each tasting each other's body, juices combining. Each moaning with deepest pleasure as their touches and kisses completed the magic once begun in a simple kiss to rise and grow in desperate and spiralling completion.

The Galadhrim shook with emotion as Nerie's body enveloped him; her heat sheathed him fully and completely. It was then that he whispered emotionally, "You are my heart, my life, my soul, my love. My soul is yours, as is my heart. I bind myself to you, Nerie. May we never be parted."

Nerie quietly repeated the vow, her body quivering in coiled passion and raging emotions. Haldir's features showed his desire as he moved against her inner walls, sliding and rubbing relentlessly as he began to sense Nerie in his very soul. Her heartbeat settled with his, their breaths joined. Once their souls touched, the merging was complete. Joint pleasure snared them both to their ultimate destination of fulfilment.

Crying out in the ultimate rapture, Haldir shuddered his release, his body and mind surrounded by the one person who knew him best, better than perhaps he knew himself. He luxuriated in the sense she gave him while they both relaxed after their climax, whole and shared and its passion at the deepest and most intense level.

"I can feel your heartbeat in me." Nerie murmured as she kissed Haldir's neck, her tongue flicking upwards so that she suckled on the lobe of his ear, causing the Galadhrim to shift his head in pleasure.

"As I can yours, beloved." Haldir growled shifting his hips slightly so that he could roll to one side, taking Nerie with him in his arms.

The young Peredhil pulled back and gazed lovingly at her husband. She felt she had awoken into a dream.

It was a dream, but one she wished to continue.

"Amin mela lle." she whispered, her mind touching Haldir's and smiled when he responded in kind, his eyes opening slightly from the wonder of it.

"Amin mela lle." He replied, a gentle smile tilting his lips as he claimed her mouth with his own.

Never alone. Never again.
