Notes: This story came out of a little one I wrote as a companion to the Rock Stars series. The plot bunny, however, refuses to leave, so here I am, exercising my demons. This is inspired by the beautiful Elves that Professor Tolkien created much to our joy and amazement; and by the beautiful, sometimes sad, and heartrending music of U2 that I was listening to when I wrote it. Thanks so much to everyone who gave me encouragement, Alex (my wonderful beta reader on this and the Rock Stars series), Dawn, Larian (my wonderful beta reader on the Tale of Two Brothers series), Hawk, and L.K., (and yes, I cried like a baby when I wrote it…)

February 20th, 121, Fourth Age, Tirion, Valinor

Legolas awoke and stared at the ceiling, his eyes slowly clearing as he emerged from reverie. He rolled to his side and reached out for his lover, finding him gone, and he sighed. The layers of thick blankets and the down duvet created a comforting weight that nestled him into the soft bed. He was buried in silk and velvet and surrounded by thick, plush pillows; it was perhaps the most comfortable bed he had ever slept upon. The only thing missing at that moment was Erestor. He had been waking frequently in the middle of the night, haunted by dreams of his father, and often he would roll over and watch his Noldo lover sleep. Erestor possessed a dark, mysterious beauty that he never grew tired of. He smiled as he conjured his lover's image in his mind, silken raven hair that glistened against the cream sheets, pure alabaster skin that was as soft as rose petals, luminescent gray eyes that sparkled when he smiled, perfect pink lips, not too full, not too thin, and fine aristocratic features that told of his Noldor heritage.

The Prince rolled over to his back and looked up at the soft silk canopy that draped over the sides of the heavy iron bed, and reached up and brushed the plush, hand dyed wool tapestry that hung upon the wall over his head. Erestor had impeccable taste, elegantly understated, and the house they shared was a unique mixture of items from Erestor and Legolas' life. Noldor weaponry from the First through Third Ages hung next to his Silvan bows and knives. Shelves were lined throughout the house with books containing the histories and legends of the Noldor, the Silvan Elves, and the Sindar. The tapestry that hung above their bed told the tale of the Last Alliance, and the likenesses of Gil-galad, Elrond, Glorfindel, Elendil, Isildur, and Oropher were depicted upon Dagorlad. Upon a table on the far side of the room, there sat an ornately carved wooden box. Legolas sat up and stared at it; he had not opened it since they had unpacked his and his father's belongings. He swallowed and felt a pain in his stomach, akin to someone kicking him. He knew what the box contained and he felt his eyes begin to water as he thought of it.

Legolas rose from the bed and donned a heavy velvet robe that once belonged to Thranduil. There were seasons in Valinor as there had been in Middle Earth, though not as harsh, and the air was quite cool that morning as he slipped out from underneath the heavy blankets and thick down stuffed duvet. Since his departure from Middle Earth, and suffering the grief that came from leaving his father behind, he had been in a somewhat fatigued and weakened state. While the grief had taken a toll on him physically, Erestor was successful in nursing the wounded Prince back to health thus far. The stone floor felt cool underneath his bare feet and he slipped on a comfortable pair of house shoes and padded into the living room. Erestor was in the kitchen preparing the morning's feast and the Prince stood in the doorway for a few moments watching him. He smiled as he watched the Counselor go about his work; he was humming as he poured steaming water through a small sieve that contained tealeaves. A tray laden with fresh baked breads, that were still hot, and fresh fruit lay upon the counter and the aromas made Legolas' mouth water. He crossed the room and placed his arms around his lover. "Good Morning, meleth nín."

Erestor smiled and turned his head, placing a soft kiss upon his lover's cheek. "Good morning, a'maelamin. Did you sleep better last night?"

Legolas nodded and rubbed his face, "Aye, a bit. I am not quite as weary this morning as last." He sat at the large oak table in their kitchen and smiled as the Counselor joined him at the table.

Erestor served up a few slices of the fresh cranberry bread he had baked and placed a sliced pear and some strawberries on a plate, handing it to Legolas before pouring him a cup of tea. Legolas covered the Noldo's hand in his as he sat the cup down, and brought it to his lips, closing his eyes and pressing a soft kiss to it. Erestor stepped forward and gently pulled the Prince's head to rest on his abdomen, stroking his hair and looking down at the top of his head affectionately. "Perhaps we should go for a walk today, a'maelamin? The fresh air would do you some good. We could stroll through Tirion or walk through the countryside?"

Legolas wrapped his long arms around Erestor's waist and the Counselor felt that they were returning to their past strength and he was grateful. Legolas had been quite weak and had lost a lot of weight by the time he had arrived from Lindon, and Erestor had gone to great pains to see him restored to health.

The Prince smiled, "Yes, I think a walk is an excellent idea. Let us walk through the countryside."

Erestor smiled, it would be the first time the Prince left the house since he arrived. There were many who wished to see him, but the only one the Prince had allowed was Gimli. He did not want to see anyone yet; the grief was still too fresh for him to cover it. "Shall we invite Gimli?"

Legolas smiled, "No," he looked up into his lover's eyes, "I want you all to myself, Counselor."

Erestor smiled and nodded, "As you wish, my Lord. Now, eat your breakfast." He placed a gentle kiss upon the Prince's forehead and sat beside him to share their meal.

Lord Elrond, Celebrían, Lady Galadriel, and Celeborn stood before Mandos' court, making another appeal for those who had transgressed in the Valar's sight. Galadriel stood before the Valar, asking for mercy and absolution for Elladan, Elrohir, and Thranduil. She put forward their cases, arguing that their decisions were driven by love, that it was this most honorable and precious of emotions that directed the paths they had taken. After lengthy argument, she and her family were turned away. As they left the high court she vowed to never give up, and promised Elrond that he and Celebrían would see their children and their beloved warrior again.

"Where is it?" Thranduil growled as he lay upon his stomach peering over a fallen tree.

"I think it escaped into the cave, my Lord. It is wounded, it will not last long." Gildor tried to see through the veil of darkness in the cave but could not locate the Warg that had escaped them.

Thranduil growled, "I thought I had seen the last of these beasts, when will we be free of Sauron's evil? The monster is gone and his minions still hunt my forests!"

Gildor smiled in spite of the serious situation they were in; it was good to see Thranduil acting like himself again. They had gone for a ride in the forest and were accosted by a rogue Warg. Thranduil had wounded it with an arrow and Gildor had tracked it to the cave they were outside of. They heard the breaking of branches and the sounds of men's voices and looked at one another. Thranduil's eyes narrowed and he made a sound akin to a low throaty growl when Gildor shook his head. "My Lord, there are only two of us, we do not know from whence these men have come, or how many there are, or whether they are armed. It would be wise to tread carefully, we do not have an army at our backs and can not afford to be brash."

Thranduil slowly sat up; he was not accustomed to intruders in his lands. Word had apparently gotten out that the Elves had left and the great forest was free of Evil. Now he would have to defend it against human intruders, with no army to support him. He wished he had kept the raiment of King, but he had sent all but the fewest of possessions with Legolas, including his crown and scepter. He was adorned in the manner of a commoner, and it would be difficult to claim he was King of the realm, when there was no one to lord over. He knew they would be bringing their axes and fire, he knew they would pillage the forest for wood to build their homes. "It is not in me to retreat or hide, Gildor. This is still my home."

Gildor looked at the ground, he saw what was to come and knew Thranduil would be caused more pain by it. "I know, my Lord. But how are we to defend this great wood with just the two of us, against so many? It would be difficult to explain why we remain when everyone has left, perhaps it would be more prudent to remain hidden."

The Warg heard the approach of the men and bolted from the cave, and Gildor brought it down with one final shot. The beast fell at their feet and Thranduil all but ignored it, his attention turned upon the approaching men.

The King grumbled and turned to his friend, "Perhaps you are right, meldir. As much as I may want it, you and I cannot defend the borders alone. I am to lose my home eventually, there is no remedy." He clasped Gildor by the shoulder, "Come it appears we must retreat. Gather our arrows, I do not want to leave any evidence of our existence."

Gildor quickly pulled the two arrows from the Warg's body and retreated with the King.

Legolas and Erestor strolled in the wood near their home on the outskirts of Tirion. They walked hand in hand down the shaded pathways, breathing in the clean fresh air of the forest. Legolas stopped and leaned back against a tree, his head tilted upward, gazing through the branches. Erestor stopped beside him, admiring his young lover. His body ached for Legolas, and had since before the Prince arrived. Each night the Prince lay in his arms, his bare flesh pressed against the Counselor's own, his soft flaxen hair splayed out against his chest; and each night Erestor fought the urge to initiate lovemaking. Legolas' wounds were still too fresh and the Counselor thought it too much to ask. He resigned himself to wait until Legolas took the initiative; then he would know the Prince was ready.

He stood an arm's length away from the Prince, also looking up through the branches of the trees. Legolas diverted his gaze to his lover and he smiled. He had taken note of how patient Erestor had been with him, and that was what was on his mind when he requested that they take their walk alone. In the beginning, he missed his father too much, the memories of their last night together were too fresh in his mind; he did not want another to replace them. As time had passed, his grief had tempered and his body began to reawaken. As he gazed at his beautiful Noldo lover, he felt a brief stir in his loins. He reached out and clasped the Counselor's wrist, pulling the Noldo against him with a gentle but quick jerk. Erestor grunted as he impacted his lover's chest and he smiled as he looked into his sparkling blue eyes. Legolas smiled in return as he caressed Erestor's face and slowly brought his lips to meet those of his lover.

Erestor sighed as he felt the Prince's silken lips touch his own. He closed his eyes and felt Legolas' tongue softly trace his lips as he opened his mouth, gently drawing it inside. It was a delicate slow dance of seduction, inviting without pressuring, rewarding with out asking; giving just enough to encourage more, but not so much as to ask for what was not ready to be given. He moaned quietly as the Prince explored his mouth after such a long absence; one hand slowly and gently slid around Legolas' neck and into his silky hair as he melted his body into that of his lover. The Prince moaned and moved his feet further apart, allowing Erestor's weight to rest more fully against him. The Counselor tentatively rolled his hips forward, so that their groins touched and he earned a tiny whimper from his lover. The kiss lasted for so long, it was so sweet, so passionate, so loving; the Counselor had never been kissed so long or so well in all of his long life.

They separated just long enough to breathe and Legolas whispered in his ear, "Amin mela le, Erestor."

Erestor whispered in return, "As I love you, my dear, sweet Prince."

Legolas pulled back and gazed into the Noldo's deepening gray eyes, his own turning a deep lapis blue. "I want you, Erestor."

Erestor gasped as he felt the Prince's long fingers reach inside his leggings and gently take hold of his arousal. He moaned quietly as his lover stroked his length and drew the point of his ear into his warm, wet mouth. So many long years of abstinence, and the months of patiently waiting for his lover to return his affection made his need more urgent than he could bear. He whispered breathlessly, "Meleth nín, I will not last long if you keep touching me this way."

Legolas laughed softly against his ear, his soft breath fluttering against the wet flesh of the Noldo's ear, "You need not last long, a'maelamin, only recover quickly."

Erestor whimpered as he neared completion, desire roaring in his veins as the Prince mercilessly stroked him and fondled his ear in his mouth. With his free hand, Legolas pulled the Counselor's leggings free, exposing his length to the cool fall air. Erestor gasped, and groaned, "Legolas, I am going to…"

Before he could finish, the Prince dropped to his knees before him, taking him into his mouth and drawing the warm, opalescent seed from the Counselor's body, swallowing each drop that ebbed from him. Erestor dug his fingers into the trunk of the tree, hanging his head down as he felt his arousal twitch in his lover's mouth. His knees felt as though they would buckle as Legolas cleaned his softening arousal with his tongue, quietly purring and stroking his hips and buttocks as he went about his work. Erestor panted and smiled, his soft alabaster skin flushing with the afterglow of his spent desire. He whispered hoarsely, "Thank you, a'maelamin, thank you."

Legolas rose to his feet and smiled, lifting the Counselor's chin with his fingers. "You need not thank me, meleth nín, `twas no hardship."

Erestor chuckled and leaned against his lover as Legolas pulled his leggings back up and laced them. "Oh, lirimaer, you have such a talent for saying the exact thing I need to hear." He wrapped his arms around the Prince and pressed a kiss to his ear, "I would return the favor, my Lord."

Legolas purred in his ear, "I had hoped you would say that, melethron." He caressed his lover's hair and whispered, "Take me home and make love to me in our soft bed."

Erestor smiled and caressed his brow with his lips, "There is nothing I would rather do, meleth nín."
