Chapter Nine
Celeborn had known this was coming, thanks only in part to the warning from his wife. He immediately made his way out to the glade to comfort the poor child.
As he walked, memories of what had brought him to the glade once long before filled his mind. A young elf crying in the night, his parents cruelly taken from him before their time. Haldir had never been a noisy elf, and instead of screaming and sobbing like normal children, he merely sat upon the ground letting the tears trickle silently down his face, raising no hand to stop them.
Celeborn shook the memories from his mind and concentrated on the task at hand. Sarafina did not deserve to sit by herself all night with no answers to the many questions he was sure she had. He pushed the bushes aside silently and stopped halfway into the glade as he heard Sarafina's low sobbing. He could feel her pain and uncertainty as he moved closer.
Galadriel had gone to find Haldir, to get him to explain his hurtful actions of earlier in the evening. Celeborn could only hope that she would show him what he would spend the rest of his life wishing for. Both Celeborn and Galadriel knew that Sarafina did not have long here, and soon would be gone forever.
Gently Celeborn stepped over to Silvy's quaking form and settled himself down upon the cold ground, "What troubles you so Ai'aer?" Silvy jumped and her head flew up. She gasped quietly when she saw it was Celeborn and scrubbed her face quickly.
Celeborn opened his arms and had to wait only a moment for Silvy to launch herself into them. Celeborn wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly, "Do not hate him, child, for he knows not what he has done."
Silvy pulled away from Celeborn's shoulder to look up into his face, "I can not bring myself to hate him. I only wonder what I did wrong to make him run away from me."
Celeborn sighed in relief; thankful this young woman had a heart that could withstand this kind of pain. "You are wise beyond your young years, Sarafina. Even after his actions towards you tonight and the fact none of this was your fault, you do not hate him," Celeborn told her softly as he wiped her tears away. "Did Haldir tell you of his parents and their murder?"
Silvy nodded.
"That is good, for it gives some understanding and insight into Haldir's mind and heart. For long he has only had himself and his brothers to worry about. He has never let anyone become close to him because he fears he will lose him or her too soon. He fears being hurt again; to a degree it is normal but he takes to it an extreme. He has friends but no close ones, only his brothers and his bow keep him company on the long nights. I fear that he has been alone too long, but you are here to change all that."
Silvy looked at Celeborn, slowly processing everything he had told her. "How can I change Haldir when he doesn't even want to be with me?"
"This is why you were sent to Middle Earth. My wife has spoken to me of the vision you shared earlier in the day. That vision is the reason you have been sent here. Haldir needs to learn how to love without restraint or fear, and you need love without thoughts of violence or revenge should something happen."
Silvy nodded, understanding the final piece of the puzzle her mother had set before her. She wrapped her arms around Celeborn and held him tight, "Thank you for coming to explain everything to me. I know I wouldn't have ever put two and two together without your help."
Celeborn pulled back from the young mortal and rose gracefully to his feet, "Come, it is late, and I must rise early for some of many meetings I must attend too. I will walk you to your talan." Silvy was about to protest when Celeborn silenced her with a raised hand, "I will not take no for an answer, besides I would enjoy a evening walk through my city."
Silvy grinned as Celeborn held out his arm to her. She threaded her arm through it and followed Celeborn as he led the way out of the glade.
Celeborn closed his eyes and silently sought out Galadriel, frowning slightly as he found her searching for Haldir. Celeborn sighed under his breath as Galadriel discovered Haldir near her Mirror. Celeborn turned his attention back to Silvy, speaking to her of better times.

Meanwhile, Haldir had been running until he could barely draw a breath. He ran without any thought of destination or purpose. Soon he found could run no more and stopped to lean against a tree to catch his breath.
Once he could breathe easily again, he took in his surroundings and was surprised to find himself in the secret glade that contained Galadriel's mirror.
"Haldir, why have you been running?"
He jumped, surprised to see that Galadriel was sitting in a bench half hidden in shadow. He couldn't figure out why he hadn't sensed her and watched as she motioned for him to sit beside her. Haldir looked at Galadriel before walking over to her bench to take the offered seat.
"What troubles you so, my young March Warden?"
Haldir's eyes widened for a moment before remembering that his lady could see and feel his thoughts.
Galadriel spoke softly, "I can feel your emotions, Haldir, without reading your mind."
Haldir closed his eyes for a moment, wondering if everything he felt really was that obvious.
"Your face shows your distress and unhappiness, my young one. Now tell what has gotten you all riled up."
He turned to face his lady before answering, "It is the new guest, Sarafina. She has not left my thoughts since her arrival and I do not understand it. No one or thing has ever affected thus, and yet whenever I am around her, I can not think or breathe and when I can all I want to do is throw my arms around her and hold on to her forever."
Galadriel smiled at the nervous youth, "It is alright Haldir. You are in love with her, that is all. It was the same way for me when I first met Celeborn."
Haldir's eyes widened. Could it be? Could the haughty, smug Captain of the Guard have fallen in love with a mere mortal? No she wasn't just a mortal, she was Sarafina and the only woman in all his years to make his heart flutter.
"Could I…am I…?"
Galadriel's grin grew wider at Haldir's frustrations.
Haldir was growing angry; having the Lady of the wood laughing at him wasn't helping. "I do not think this is a laughing matter milady." "Do not be upset Haldir, I do not laugh at you. I laugh because you remind me so much of Celeborn when I first met him. Believe me, you have been given a gift. To love and be loved in return, no matter how short the time, is worth more than anything else in this life. Cherish it, do not let it slip away, because once it is gone, you may never get another chance at it."
Haldir nodded slowly, taking in everything that Galadriel had said. It made sense to him, everything that he had been feeling and thinking, all signs of his love for her. He smiled suddenly, feeling the weight lift off his shoulders. "Thank you milady, for pointing me in the right direction. I must take my leave, if you do not mind. There is much to be said and done and I still have some thinking to do. I have done Sarafina a grave disservice and I owe her an apology for my actions this evening. Have good evening milady."
Galadriel nodded and watched the young March Warden almost skip away. She smiled and farspoke her husband, "He understands now, my love. Now we just have to let everything take its course."
