Chapter Six

Silvy walked around the rooms running her fingers over the leather book bindings, before finally picking one off the shelves. She moved to sit at one of the desks and pushed some parchment out of the way. She went to open the book but stopped when she realized what an opportune time it was for her to write out a quick note apology for her behavior yesterday.

Though she had insulted Haldir unknowingly, she had still insulted him and knew that an apology was in order. She searched the desk for a blank piece of parchment before rising to find an ink well and quill with which to write. It took her a moment but she smiled in triumph and walked back to the third room. She seated herself at the desk and began to compose a quick letter to Haldir. She finished quickly, eagar to read the aged volume before her.

She set aside the letter and quill, checking her fingers to make sure no ink would rub off onto the book's pages. She opened the cover, surprised and thrilled to find the tale printed in English or Westron as Rumil had called it. "The Tale of the Simarils." It sounded intersting enough and maybe she would learn a bit fo their history to help her understand the world she had been thrust into.

Soon, she was utterly engrossed in the tale, forgetting completely the time and world around her. She finish the book as Anar's light began to fade behind the trees, making the shadows grow longer. She rose from the chair and stretched, her whole body cramped from sitting in the same position for the entire afternoon. She jumped and smacked a hand to her forehead as she realized the late hour. With as much haste as she could muster with the dress, she replaced the volume, grabbed the letter off the desk and rushed down the stairs.

Once at the bottom, she began to run as fast as she could towrad where she thought her talan was. So lost was she in her thought that she didn't notice the rather large walking towards her, his head also down and lost in his own thoughts. They collided both falling to the ground in ungraceful heaps. Silvy lay there for a moment, wondering to herself how many times she was bound to be frightened out of her wits today.

She watched the other figure rise and offer a hand down to her, "You have my humblest apologies milady. Here, let me help you to your feet." Silvy glady accepted the hand and let him haul her to her feet gently.

"Forgive me milord, I was not watching where I was going," she spoke quietly, embarassment staining her cheeks.

The elf merely laughed, "No, I should have had my head up and not else where."

Silvy looked up to find a beautiful, regal looking elf towering over her. She instantly recoiled a step, fear growing in her mind as she realized who this must be. *oh my god, I have just knocked down the Lord of Lorien.*

Silvy began to stammer apologies again, only to be meet by deep, rich laughter.

"Do not fret my child, you have done me no harm. I am Celeborn, husband to Galadriel and Lord of Lorien." Silvy began to bow only to be stopped by a large, warm hand on her arm, "Do not bow, you are our guest and as such you will be treated like one. So may I ask where you were headed too in such haste?"

Silvy blushed again, "I was trying to get to my talan because they are having a feast and wanted to make sure I had enough time to make myself look presentable, but I'm afraid I am lost again.."

Celeborn nodded, seeing as he was on his way for a quick bath before dressing. "Well, then allow me to show you the way Lady Sarafina."

He offered his arm as she began to stammer, "Oh no milord I couldn't take you away from your task..."

Celeborn smiled and shook his head, "It is no trouble Lady Sarafina, besides since I am Lord of Lorien, I have the honor and pleasure of being late."

Silvy looked at his arm for a moment more before slipping her arm through his. He smiled down at her and patted her hand reassuringly, "So, what did you think of our library?"

Silvy smiled up at Celeborn, finally relaxing, "I loved it, I only wish I had more time to read and knowledge to read everything."

Celeborn looked at her curiously, "What do you mean "the knowledge?" Silvy looked down, "I can not read your language and therefore will not understand half of the beautiful volumes within."

Celeborn nodded in agreement and came to a stop in front of her talan, "Worry not young Sarafina, I'm sure someone will teach you our language once my wife says it is safe. I will now take my leave now that you are safely by your talan. Someone will be by to escort you to the feast. Will you save me a dance Ai'aer?"

Silvy nodded and bowed before him, "I thank you Lord Celeborn for your help. Yes of course I will save you a dance."

Celeborn smiled and bowed slightly, watching Sarafina walk away. *Haldir is a lucky one, I just hope he does not ruin it with his own stubborness and pride.* Celeborn shook his head and turned to talk towards the bath, hoping the elf considered his son would do the right thing.

Silvy rushed up the stairs as quickly as she could manage and ran into her bedroom. She immediately removed her outfit and laid the dress lovingly over the bed. She went to the small amoire and opened it carefully, removing the white dress and matching slippers. She smiled at the silky texture and she ran her fingers over the extensive bead work on the bodence. She slipped the gown in place and smoothed it down her body.

Once the gown setteled comfortably at her hips and feet, she sat down upon to removed the scarlet slippers, replacing them with the white set. She stood and twirled around in front of the vanity mirror admiring the way the dress brought out her place skin color making her tan seem darker than it was. She sat at the vanity and began to painstakingly removed all the ribbons, little braids and curls. It was a slow process but she managed to finish with a little time to spare. She reached down to grab a brush to smooth out her locks when she noticed another folded piece of paper and smoething wrapped in a soft looking green fabric. She picked up the note, unfolding it and began to read quietly.

Sarafina,

Please allow to extend my sincerest apologies over my behavior yesterday evening. I know not what made me so angry but it was inexcusable. As a token of my apology, please accept this gift. Do not be angry that I snuck into your room to retreive it, but I saw how much it mean to you yesterday in the forest. It has beeen recast in mithril and thus less likely to be damaged. Welcome to the forest of Lothlorien.

Haldir

Silvy couldn't help but smile at the note as she refolded it and laid it down. She picked up the gift, running her fingers over the soft, velvet like fabric. She pulled out the string and began to pull pieces of it away to reveal her new circlet.

She gasped as she pulled away the final piece of cloth and held it up in the fading light. It shined brighter than before and had been reset into perfect circle. It looked exactly as it had before down to the silver moon in the center. The only thing different was the removal over the moonstone, which she found wrapped in the green cloth It had been replaced with a blood red ruby and a forest green emerald. She turned it this way and that, admiring how the gems sparkled in the late afternoon light.

She sat the circlet down and wiped at her eyes, tears blurring them. She picked up the brush and began to brush out the strands until it gleamed soft and smooth. She slid the circlet over her hair, the cresent moon resting in the center of her forehead.

She grabbed her bag from it's place by the door and brought out two candles, one white for purity and understanding. She brought out her bolline and inscribed the proper symbols and blessing. She cast her circle and began to pray to the goddess for help in understanding this world, it's people and her purpose here.

When she had finished, she extinguished the candles, closed her circle and put everything back in her bag. She dug further down and found a tube of clear gloss and smeared a thin coat her lips, giving them the illusion of just being licked. She checked herself out in the mirror once more before stpping outside in the fading light, waiting for her escort to come and fetch her.

Orophin was confused as he made his way to Sarafina's talan. Normally it would have been Haldir's place to escort new arrivals to the feast, but Galadriel had sent him in Haldir's place.

He remembered her from yesterday, the scared yet defiant look in her eyes as she held her ground against his brother. Many a man and elf backed down from his stare, but not she and for that reason alone he was dying to meet her.

He stopped at the base of the tree and looked to see a beautiful, red-haired woman leaning against the rail, staring out into the sunset. He grinned and climbed the stairs silently.

Silvy stared out into the forest wondering where he escort was. Was she not supposed to go to a feast held in her honor tonight? She made the decision to find her own way to the hall and turned around and screamed.

Orophin immediately felt horrible, seeing he had scared the young lady out of her wits. He moved forward and took her into his arms and held her still for a moment. Once she had calmed sufficently, he backed away and bowed low. "Forgive me milady for my mistake, I hadn't meant to scare you thus."

Silvy watched the tall, elf bow low, his long blond almost silver hair sweeping the ground. "I didn't mean to scream you just frightened me. It's the third time to happen today, first with Lord Celeborn, then with Rumil..."

Orophin's head snapped up at the mention of Rumil, "You've met my brother Rumil?"

Silvy looked up into the face of the much taller elf, seeing a bit of Rumil and Haldir mixed together. "You must be Orophin right?"

He nodded, "Yes, I am to escort you to dinner. Forgive my being late. I only just returned from the borders and barely had the time to bathe and change."

Silvy smiled, "It's alright, but let us not be later than we may already be."

Orophin nodded and held out his arm, "Then let us go Lady Sarafina and surprise everyone."

Silvy threaded her arm through his and let him lead the way down the stairs to the dining hall.
