Disclaimer: This world and its creatures belong to J.R.R Tolkien, New Line Cinema and Peter Jackson. I've just bullied my way in long enough to right a wrong. You know the one I mean. (Haldir deserves better…) I receive no financial compensation for the following tale. I "do this for love."
Warnings: Explicit het sex; a few slashy references
Betas: Telbeth the Indefatigable
Cast: Haldir/OCF (a Maia, no less!); Rumil, Orophin, Galadriel, Celeborn, Aragorn, and a few original critter characterizations
Timeline: 3rd Age of Middle Earth during the War of the Rings -After the visit of the Fellowship to Lothlorien through the Battle at Helm's Deep
Spoilers: None
Summary: During a border patrol, Haldir discovers a lone Nazgul horse and a strange visitor with an annoying attitude and some very spooky skills. Things unfold deliciously until a deception and a surfeit of pride cause them to separate. They are re-united at Helm's Deep with an entirely different outcome, of course. Horses and dragons and crows…oh, my!
Notes: Dedication - Hennaid to my friend Sulien for nagging me into this romp and forcing me to learn Sindarin (well, pidgin Sindarin); to Craig Parker for gifting us with his interpretation of Haldir, and to my amazing husband for being…well…amazing!

"Guardian..."

Haldir lifted his head from Illume's breast, giving wary attention to the Lady's voice in his head.

"The visitor is rested, now. Long rested," she chided. "You will bring her to me."

The Elf's head dropped back to pillow on his lover's body for a moment. Then he rose and pulled her to her feet, stroking her cheek with the backs of his fingers.

"The Lady has summoned me. I must take you to her. "

Illume's skin paled at Haldir's words. Alarmed, he braced her shoulders in firm hands. "Do not fear the Lady. I will speak for you. She will do you no harm."

She could not tell him that the harm she feared might come from him if he withdrew at the discovery of her deception.

"I am fine," she smiled. "You fret like a mother with one child."

Haldir barely had time to object to this unelfly image before the crow sailed into view. The ebony bird settled on his favorite branch and sent Haldir a mind picture of Rumil bearing down on the glade with a large bundle over his shoulder. Haldir swept his cape up from the floor, pulled Illume to him and cloaked them both in the soft fabric.

"Suilaid," Rumil greeted them as he ascended to the flet. He placed a hand over his heart and dipped his head briefly in formal salute to the visitor.

"Hiril. I bring raiment for your visit to the Lady Galadriel," he announced, eyeing the bare feet visible beneath the hem of his brother's cloak.

He shook out his bundle and displayed cunningly stitched garments of sage greens and silvery grays…delicate hues well suited both for appearing at court and for travelling unnoticed. Included were a layered, thigh-length tunic, leggings, knee boots of the softest leather, and - to Illume's delight - a worked leather belt with three deceptively delicate-looking throwing blades sheathed to the left of the front laces.

Rumil found himself smiling at her reaction, amused that she took more pleasure from the knives than from the finery. He quickly composed his features when his brother frowned.

"Ahem. The Lady would wish to see you both at your earliest convenience. I will leave you to your...preparations."

"Hennaid venneg, " Haldir intoned wryly, inclining his head toward his brother. Rumil returned the salute as he backed away.
