Haldir walked slowly up the steps to his talan, a smile curling the corners of his lips as he spied a new guard fast asleep on his doorstep. He knelt down, shaking Sareth awake.

"I fear you have frightened away all those who thought to invade my home, I must thank you for you vigilance." Haldir whispered softly as Sareth sat up quickly.

"I have to protect Raven." He said fiercely as he eyed Haldir crossly.

"And why are you angry with me, Sareth?" Haldir said as he rose to stand above him.

Sareth stood, with his hands on his hips as a frown furrowed his brow. "I fear you take too many liberties with my sister. I told her I was going to have to teach you a lesson!" he growled as he stared up at the elf in front of him.

Haldir frowned, folding his arms over his chest. "I fear you may be right, so what punishment do you plan for me? Should I ask for mercy?" he said as one dark brow arched in question.

Sareth's eyes narrowed. "Do not mock me, I will do what I must." He said firmly as his gaze met Haldir's grey eyes. Haldir smiled, and knelt to Sareth's height once more.

"You speak truly with no fear in your heart Sareth. Your loyalty to your family is admirable. If I promise I will make right the wrongs I have done to your sister will you allow me to pass?" he asked as Sareth studied him.

"How am I to know you have done so, you may not be speaking truthfully." He scowled. "all I know is my sister is distraught inside."

Haldir frowned glancing at the closed door. "What would you have me do then?" he asked as Sareth frowned.

"I want you to leave her alone, for she knows not where to go, she is lost. I do not know what she wants." Sareth sighed, hanging his head, "I fear you will break her heart."

Haldir smiled, gripping Sareth's shoulders, drawing him to stand straight before him. He reached into his belt to pull his dagger from it, handing it hilt first to Sareth. Sareth stared at it for a moment, his eyes widening as he looked up to Haldir.

"If you are to protect your family, you will need something in which to defend yourself. I give you this dagger on my promise I will not harm your sister, for she holds my heart. But you will swear to me you will not use it unless the need is dire. You must choose wisely the battles you fight, and when you must retreat." Haldir smiled as Sareth took the dagger gingerly. "It is extremely sharp, so touch not the edge. I will give you a sheath that you might wear it by your side. You will meet with Orophin each day and he will train you in its use."

Sareth held the blade tightly staring at the gleaming metal, its curved length embellished with elvish script. He looked at Haldir, nodding as he moved aside from the door as Haldir stood. He opened his door to find more opposition waiting him.

Raven eyes widened as she heard Haldir's low voice outside the door. Willow frowned, folding her arms as she sat on the edge of the bed, as Indirion moved to the window to see why he had not entered. The door opened and Sareth stepped inside followed by Haldir. Indirion ran to Sareth staring at the blade Sareth carried in wonderment as Haldir frowned at the two on his bed. He opened his chest , drawing out the sheath that was made for his dagger and deftly tied it to Sareth's belt.

"Don't you think that he is a bit young for such a weapon?" Raven asked as Sareth slid the blade into the sheath with a grin.

Haldir stared at her as he straightened. "Do you doubt my judgment? Sareth has earned the right to carry it, he will respect the weapon for what it is." He said as Raven sighed.

"I did not expect a family reunion in my talan tonight." Haldir said as he sat down in the chair picking up one of his books , flipping through it idly. His gaze swept over Raven as she frowned.

Willow glanced at Raven as she plucked at the coverlet over the bed, and then to Haldir who sat thumbing through his book, his gaze on Raven and sighed. "We must leave" she said as she rose, walking over to where Haldir sat. He looked up from his book.

"Not on my account, I hope?" he said as he smiled slowly. Willow scowled, grasping Indirion as she turned to protest.

"But I don't want to leave, he didn't say we couldn't stay.' She cried, wrenching her arm from Willow's grip. She turned to Haldir as he leaned forward, still holding his book.

"You are going to be leaving aren't you." She said as his eyes narrowed.

"Perhaps." He said as Indirion reached out to grip his hand.

"But I do not want to go back to the village. Can I not stay here? I would like to learn more of your world." Haldir smiled.

"It is not my position to make such a decision, you must bring it before the Lady and Lord. They are fond of you, and will hear your petition, but I cannot say what they will decide. You have my support if need be." He said as Indirion smiled, stepping back.

Sareth stood by the door, "We must go now." He said as his chin rose defiantly. Willow smiled, pulling Indirion with her as they retreated outside the door, waving goodbye to a startled Raven. She turned to stare at Haldir as he leaned back thumbing through the book once more.

"How did you do that, they just swore to me that you couldn't drag them out screaming and they leave not moments after you return." Raven scowled, sliding off the bed as Haldir grinned.

"Did you really want them to stay?" he said as he set the book back on the table.

Raven sighed, leaning on the window frame, looking out over the purple shadows as the evening mists began to rise. She flinched as Haldir slid the locket back around her neck.

"Oh, you found it. I thought I had lost it." She whispered as he pulled her hair back to clasp the chain around her neck.

"I had Orophin repair it, he is very good with such things." Haldir murmured as she turned toward him.

"Will you tell me what happened, I do not remember much." She asked as he rested his hands on her shoulders.

Haldir frowned, "I do not know where to begin." He said as she closed her eyes, trembling suddenly. He pulled her close to him and she rested her head on his chest, listening to his heart beat slowly. "We must journey to the Black lands, Raven. I must find one who leads them in Morgoth's name."

Raven pushed away from him. "He is the cause of my dreams." She said as Haldir nodded. "He was here today. What stopped him?"

Haldir frowned, "Another of the Valar. We are part of their dispute it seems."

Raven stared at him in horror, "how can I know he won't come for me again tonight?"

"Because I am here. We are under the protection of Ulmo at the moment." Haldir smiled. "You may rest well tonight, I will sit near you." He smiled as he fingered the silky material of the dress Raven wore. "I had hoped perhaps to find you in my sheet once again. It seems to suit you." He grinned as Raven scowled at him.

"I think you have seen more of me than you deserve." She quipped as she climbed onto his bed, clutching one of his pillows over her chest. She rested her chin on it as she leaned against the headboard.

Haldir lifted his wine carafe peering into the half empty vessel. "It looks perhaps you were quite thirsty." He said as he turned to gaze at her.

Raven scowled, "It was not I who drank all of that." She said as he smiled. "So you think after all that has happened I will just lie here in your bed and sleep restfully?" she asked as he shrugged. He sat on the edge of the bed to pull off his boots. Raven crawled over the bed to lean beside him as he glanced at her.

"Perhaps I don't want to go to sleep." She said as he pulled off one boot.

"We have a long journey to make, you will need your rest." Haldir said as he set the boot beside the bed. Raven sat back on her heels staring him with a grin. She reached out to trace the braid that hung along side his head. Haldir frowned, grasping her fingers as they brushed his hair.

"You should not be so bold." He said as he released her fingers to pull off his other boot. Raven smiled leaning over his shoulder.

"Does that bother you when I touch your hair, Haldir? Who plaits it for you, some she-elf I should be jealous of?" she whispered as he chuckled.

"Nay, it would be Rumil's wrath you will incur if you think to unbind it." He said as he set the other boot beside its mate. "He finds himself highly in demand with his skill." Haldir said as he grasped her waist to sit her on his lap.

Raven grinned as she slid her arms over his shoulders to run her fingers through his hair as it hung down his back. His eyes narrowed as she ran her fingers over the braid that ran down his back. "You didn't answer me." She murmured as he reached up to trap her hands again.

"It takes too long to plait, Raven, so leave it be." He growled as she leaned back to stare at him. She slid off his lap to pick up the wine that he had poured. "What answer have I not given you." He asked as she whirled around in front of him. He stood taking the wine from her as she laughed.

"Whether my touching you bothered you.' She giggled as he frowned. He set the wine on the table as she ran her fingers over his chest. He gripped her hand pulling her toward him.

"I think you know what it does to me, but I think the wine has loosened more than your tongue." He murmured, pulling her close against him.

Raven smiled, reaching up to brush her fingers along his jaw as his eyes narrowed. "I am quite aware of what I say and do." She whispered as she brushed the lower part of his ear. Haldir closed his eyes, sighing as she pulled away. She gazed out the window as he sat back on the bed. She turned away, gliding over to stand in front of him again as he gripped her waist.

"You do not like me to touch your ears, why is that?" she whispered as he frowned. She grinned as she leaned over him to kiss the side of his temple. "You say you do not enter into this lightly, but what about what I want. Cannot I decide whether I might choose you, even for a short time. Perhaps it will be enough."

Haldir sighed, resting his head against her chest as his hands caressed her back. "Perhaps for you, for your time is different from mine, but to me it would never be enough. Upon your death my soul would be torn, and I would spend an eternity in despair."

Raven stepped back, her eyes dark with concern. "But why must it be like that? You cannot tell me this is how it is with all you touch, I cannot believe you have not had others before me."

Haldir smiled crookedly, not wanting to discuss his previous behavior. "It must because I will have you no other way, Raven. You have taken my heart and I can no more love you and leave you than I could lay down my bow and not protect the Lady of Light."

Raven stared at him, not daring to believe what his words were saying. "So what is it that you are trying to tell me in the fancy words you speak? Speak plainly for once, Haldir." she said as he rose to stand before her.

He gazed at her and she was swept into the grey depths. "In plain words, Lirimaer? Only that I love you and cannot persist in this with you unless you feel as I do."

Raven swallowed, closing her eyes as they swelled with tears, his thumb brushed one from the corner of her eye as she opened them. "I feared that you only looked upon me as an interesting diversion to your long life, and I thought I could accept that, just to have you near me for a short while. I dared not think you felt more." She whispered as he smiled. "I do not want to hurt you, but I am willing to take what time I can have with you, Haldir, I wish you could as well." She smiled as she brushed her fingers along the tips of his ears before he could stop her and grinned softly as she felt a shudder run through him. He grasped her wrists and twisted her gently to fall onto the bed beside him. He leaned over her as she stared up into his face.

"It is not as simple as you think anymore Raven. I have made a bargain that perhaps I should not have and it may change your thoughts of me." He whispered as she stared at the grey eyes that glittered above her.

"What do you mean, Haldir? What bargain?" she asked as she tried to free her wrists. Haldir smiled.

"I asked you once if you would be immortal if you could." He said as Raven frowned sitting up.

"What have you done, Haldir? You spoke to the Valar about me? You have asked them to make me immortal?" she asked her eyes widening as he sighed. He sat up, rubbing his forehead.

"Raven, if I make love to you as I would like, I will bind you to me," he said

"What do you mean bind me? Is this what you meant when you said your soul would be torn upon my death?" she whispered as he turned to gaze as her.

"Yes, it will tie your soul to mine, Raven, only because I would have it no other way, whether you are mortal or not. The Valar know this, and know my despair if you die a mortal death. I have made a choice for both of us. I have asked them to tie your life to mine, Raven. If I bind with you, then you will live as long as I, but shall die upon my death, whether I die in battle, or continue to return some day to the Undying Lands once more, as will I to you if you shall die. My task in order to gain this is to defeat Morgoth's champion. He frowned as Raven eyes widened further. She rose on her knees to sit back on her heels, tilting her head.

"So as long as you live I will be bound to you, I would be as you are?" she smiled as he nodded.

"It could be a very long time Raven, longer than you can imagine." He murmured as she chewed on the tip of her finger. She leaned forward.

"But you are the one who made this bargain, you must have known the consequences as well." She whispered as he smiled.

"I did." He said as she slid closer. Raven reached up and began unraveling the braid above his ear. She slowly unbound the silky hair . His eyebrows rose in amusement as she slid her fingers through the strands.

"I think that I would not mind being bound to such as you." She murmured as she slid back onto his lap, her dress sliding high over her thighs as he gripped her waist. She reached up to unbind the other braid over his ear. He sighed as she smoothed the strands through her fingers. "Perhaps you have second thoughts." She whispered as she reached behind him to loosen the back braid.

Haldir stifled a groan as her fingers slid through his hair as it fell over his forehead. His grey eyes narrowed as he slid his hands over her thighs pulling the fabric of her dress higher about her waist.

"I have had no second thoughts Raven. But I will hurt you if we continue much longer." He groaned as her lips brushed his.

"Hurt me? I think I can deal with such pain, I am tired of waiting, Haldir." She whispered as she shifted slightly in his lap. He leaned back pulling off his tunics as she tightened her legs around. Raven smiled as she ran her fingers over his chest, enjoying the feel of his skin beneath her fingers. He pulled her close wrapping his hands on either side of her face as grey eyes gazed into grey.

"I cannot stop once we have begun, Raven." He murmured as he kissed her. He leaned over her, his lips demanding a response Raven had been waiting to give. She slid her arms around his neck, sliding her hands into his unbound hair. His lips trailed warm searing paths along her shoulders and Raven sighed in delight.

Raven grinned as she kissed the line of his jaw, feeling the tension in his arms as they wrapped around her, holding her tight against him. She reveled in the feel of his taut body against hers, as he laid over her, the strength of him, the passion in hardness of his arousal as he pressed against her. She wanted more.

She shifted, sliding her fingers down along his side to the edge of his leggings. She slid her fingers along his hips to the laces that held them. She pulled the laces slowly out of his leggings as Haldir gripped her hip. He leaned over her, as she stared up at him, her body quivering with a need she had never felt before.

Haldir kissed her slowly, his tongue teasing hers as he pressed against her. His lips traveled slowly down her neck, trailing along her shoulders to her fingers, nibbling the tips of them as he stared at her. Raven sighed as he moved away for a moment, and she opened her eyes as he tossed his leggings onto the floor. He rolled over pinning her to the bed as he gazed down at her.

"Why do you stop." Raven gasped as the sensation of his body pulsating against her stirred the smoldering heat that grew where they lay intertwined.

"I do not know that you are ready." He whispered, but groaned as Raven shifted her hips. She slid her fingers into his hair as it hung down his back. She licked her lips as she opened her eyes to gaze at him and smiled.

"I trust you Haldir," she whispered as he moved slightly and she moaned as his hardness brushed against the very heart of her and her body arched against him wanting more, always more. He slid his hands around her head as he moved to slide slightly inside her and froze, indecision crossing his face as she gasped in pain as he pressed harder. She narrowed her eyes, ignoring the pain and arched her hips against him as the brief spasm of pain receded and he groaned as he slid deeper inside of her. The flames of her desire roared to life as he moved and she closed her eyes as the pleasure of his movements swept away the memory of the pain. Bright colors swirled in her vision as he moved faster and she shuddered as the pleasure grew almost unbearable until the colors burst into a flash of light in her head and she was swept away on the waves of sensation.

Raven opened her eyes, turning her head to look at Haldir as he lay against her side, holding her tightly against him. His hair as it lay across his face hid his expression as he lay with his arm wrapped around her, and she could feel his heart beating rapidly. Her eyes widened as she heard his voice whisper softly to her. It took her a moment to realize he had not spoken aloud. She closed her eyes, aware of a sense of his presence in the back of her mind. She opened her eyes to see him gazing at her through his hair.

He reached up brushing the strands out of his eyes and rose on his elbow to smile at her. "You can sense me in here?" he said as he tapped his finger on her forehead gently. Raven frowned.

"Yes, I can feel you in my head, your emotions." She whispered. He kissed her lips softly as she sighed.

"As I can you, Raven." He murmured as he continued to kiss the line of her jaw. "You can't hide your feelings from me anymore." He smiled but she felt his amusement in her mind. He leaned over her pressing her deeper into the bed as he sighed.

"Is this what you meant when you said we would be bound together?" she whispered as he kissed her shoulders, sending tremors of desire sweeping through her again.

"You will know me even if we are separated a long distance." He murmured as he slid the neckline of her tunic down over her shoulders. Raven sighed as his lips grazed her skin as he slid the tunic down further.

"ummm Haldir?" she gasped as he ran his tongue over her breast. He looked up at her as she gasped, the coils of heat growing where they still lay intertwined. "How often can you do this?" she asked as she felt him grin.

"I don't know, shall we find out?" he whispered as he nipped her ear. Raven sighed as he moved against her again and the colors began to swirl in her vision once more.
