Disclaimer: I do not own anyone in this fic but myself... at least... I think I own myself. *muse steps up* "No, *I* own you." *Char shrugs* Okay... I don't own me... he does. Glad we got that covered. Uh... where was I? Oh, yes, I do not own Haldir, Legolas, etc., etc., etc. The estate of J. R. R. Tolkien owns all these wonderful characters and such. I am just merely borrowing them for a bit of fun. I am making absolutely no money off this.

Summary: Written for Haldir_Lovers group. My response to the fan fiction challenge to have Haldir or one of his brothers as the main character. Well, okay, he *kinda* has to share the spotlight just a tad... Not telling you what it's about because that would just spoil things... sorry. :(
Notes: As I'm leaving tomorrow and I will perhaps be awfully busy upon my return, I have not sent this out to be betaed. I thought you could all enjoy it while I was out of town.
Haldir and Char made compromises in any arguments that erupted between them for the rest of the game, by the end of which they were working rather seamlessly together. So much of improvement to earlier that Haldir had felt confident they would win after all and marched off to the meeting place with a determined smile on his face. It was quickly replaced with a scowl when he caught sight of Gandalf and Elrond smugly sitting there, drinking some wine.
"Ah! Good day to you both!" Elrond lifted his wine glass to them as Gandalf followed suit. "We were just beginning to wonder when anyone else was going to show up."
That comment made Haldir frown even more and with a huff he took a seat while Char just looked at him and the other two smiled.
Throughout the next hour or so conversation idly moved along between Gandalf and Elrond while Haldir napped in his chair. Char sat bored out of her skull and was contemplating looking for something to draw on Haldir's face with when other teams began to show up. She poked her partner in the ribs with her elbow and with a snort of surprise he looked around to see what his attention was being called to. He was wide awake in record time when he saw a familiar looking cloak draped over Sam's shoulder as he and Frodo found seats.
The second Sam saw Haldir take to his feet he slid behind Frodo. "I told you he wasn't going to like it one bit. Even if we show him it's on the list he's going to kill me."
"Don't worry, Sam, he won't kill you. It's just Haldir." Frodo said, trying to cheer him up as he glanced at the worried Hobbit over his shoulder.
"Yeah, and that's exactly why I'm hiding behind you."
Haldir strode across the ground to them, pointing a finger at Sam. "You! Why do you have my cloak?"
Char ran over to intercede, grabbing Haldir by the finger. "Didn't your mother ever tell you not to point? It's not nice. Now, come back over here and sit down."
Haldir grudgingly allowed himself to be led back to his seat... but then he saw Aragorn and Arwen and Char found she wasn't moving him anywhere all of a sudden.
"What is this? Are all of my things on everybody else's lists?" He shook his hand free and began stalking towards Aragorn. "Give that back this instant!"
Aragorn immediately handed off Haldir's bow to Arwen who simply stood there and smiled at the Elf who was quickly becoming quite enraged, even if his focus was now on her.
"You will hand that to me this very second!"
"No. I will not. It is on our list and if we want to be in the running it must be in our possession."
Haldir began reaching a hand forward when a throat cleared.
"Is there a problem here?"
Haldir turned his head and blankly looked at Elrond, and past his shoulder he saw Celeborn and Galadriel watching with interest.
"U-u-uh... no... no problem at all, my Lord," Haldir stammered as his face went pale for the third time that day. He turned and briskly went to his seat.
"Boy, are you obsessed with your things," Char murmured. "If anybody even touches one of your things you think they should be disciplined and probably made a prisoner. I didn't realize there was a Haldir law in effect here."
"Oh, keep quiet. You're supposed to be on my side."
"The same could be said for you."
"What do you mean?"
Luckily Char didn't have to answer that. In the short time they'd been arguing the remainder of the teams had arrived. Elladan and Elrohir stepped forward as the judges for the game.
"As was mentioned at the start of the game, each team will be receiving a gift just for playing. These will be handed out when you are called up to check your items," announced Elrohir. He looked at Elladan, who waited patiently beside him, as he held up a scroll in front of him. Elladan gave him a small smile and a nod. Elrohir glanced about the expectant faces in front of him. "Would the team of Merry and Pippin come forward."
Merry strode forward with a proud smile on his face, as Pippin lumbered after him simultaneously brushing crumbs of some food off his shirt. Merry stopped just in front of the Twins of Imladris, and Pippin stopped in almost the exact same spot as he wasn't watching where he was going and ran into poor Merry who gave him a push and a glare.
Haldir leaned over to Char. "See? I told you. Senseless little Hobbits." She gave him a harsh poke with her elbow and he tried to ignore the odd looks they were given.
When it was revealed that Merry and Pippin has confiscated Aragorn's leather arm guards, both Hobbits turned an apologetic look on him. He only smile and shook his head as if to say, "Don't worry about it."
The Hobbits had collected every item on their list except for Frodo's missing finger. When this was announced by Elladan, everybody laughed, including Frodo... and even Haldir.
"For your participation, Merry and Pippin, you each shall receive a small pouch of pipeweed," Elrohir told them, as he took the two items from Elladan and passed them onto the Hobbits.
Merry looked quite pleased while Pippin frowned just a tad. He glanced at Merry. "I thought when you said a gift you meant like food or something."
As if he had been expecting Pippin to say that, Elladan gave his wrist a little jerk and a ripe apple came tumbling out of his sleeve into his hand. With a smile he pressed it into Pippin's hand.
"Oh, wow, thanks!" He wasted no time in taking a bite out of it and began munching away happily.
Elrohir looked around again. "Gandalf and Elrond."
Elrond strode forward eagerly with a great big smile on his face, as if he could care less about winning anything, he'd had enough fun already. Which made Char wonder what was on their list that one would have so much fun. It didn't turn out to be much of anything. Except Saruman's brooch had piqued her interest... but as with Sauron's Ring and Frodo's finger... it was an item unavailable to them. For their participation gift they received each an exotic bird which Char did not recognize. Elrond had merely looked at it with a grimace, his smile finally wiped off his face.
The Rivendell Lord glanced up at his two sons who stood there with beaming smiles on their faces. "This is payback for not getting you those ponies for your 100th birth year isn't it?"
They only smiled and called forth the next team.
Orophin and Rumil each had grins as big as the Twins. They also had an unavailable item... Grima's hankie. But, as Rumil said, "It's just as well anyway. I'd take a torch to it first before I would touch and then where would we be?"
One of their items was something that Char was not pleased to see in their hands however. Her picture journal, filled with pages upon pages of pictures she'd painstakingly collected from Elves to wizards and so on and so forth. She lunged forward from her seat but was grabbed by the back of her shirt and hauled back.
Haldir amusingly threw her own words back at her. "Boy, are you obsessed with your things."
"Shut up!" She stared his two brothers down. "You hurt that, I hurt you! And you better not have looked at it!"
They just smiled and turned to receive their new leather quivers.
"Frodo and Sam."
Sam made his way up, keeping as far away as possible from Haldir who still didn't look too favorably at him, even though he had taken off the cloak because he kept tripping on it. Surprisingly they had no unavailable item. Char and Haldir, both, were beginning to think it might be such a thing to be found on everyone's list. They cheerfully headed back to their seats after receiving their Elven-made blankets. Sam hugged his to his chest, quite happy to be holding that now instead of Haldir's cloak which had more or less placed a bullseye on him.
"Legolas and Gimli."
Legolas came forward at a steady pace as he carefully held Gandalf's staff, which had been banned from the game's events, in his hands. He gracefully placed it at the Twins' feet. That had been the only interesting item on their list. In return they got their own mithril mail. They both looked at each other with a grin.
"Let us see who moves better with this on in battle, Master Elf!"
"My score shall still be higher than yours," taunted Legolas.
"Oh, really?"
Elrohir stepped up to them. "Yes, really... argue about it at your seats, I'm getting hungry."
Legolas and Gimli gave him a strange look as they retreated. Elladan promptly punched him lightly in the shoulder as he returned to his side.
"Aragorn and Arwen."
Arwen still held onto Haldir's bow, as he watched her with a hawk's eye as she carried it up. Not once did his gaze leave it until it had been carefully set out of harm's way. Neither did they have an unavailable item.
Elladan looked at them with a bit of an odd smile. "Well, we don't really have much of a gift for you as you already have the greatest gift of all. Love." Here he cast a glance at Elrond. "But here are a pair of... friendship rings for you."
"Father! We *are* getting married and that's all there is to it," Arwen said in a disaproving voice.
Elrond shrugged and raised his hands. "Can't I at least try?"
Aragorn only smiled in amusement as Arwen hauled him back to their seats.
"Haldir and Charlene."
Char sprung forward from her seat as if she was in a catapult. Haldir gave her a strange look as they approached. Only when he began pulling their items out of his bag did he began to look unlike the March Warden of Lothlorien. He colored ever so slightly as he pulled Galadriel's robe out and he refused to look at anything but the floor... or at the buttons on Elladan's tunic.
"Really, Haldir," Char whispered, "I don't think she cares. She looks awfully amused with you, though."
Haldir dared a glance over his shoulder to the twinkling look in Galadriel's eyes. He quickly looked back at the Elladan's buttons, though he looked far more relieved.
"Well, it had been decided to give you two a bottle each of the finest Lorien wine... but... a little bird told us of your troubles today and we've decided to give you another gift."
Haldir and Char exchanged some curious and rather suspicious looks as it was the Twins they were expected to receive this gifts from.
Haldir finally looked into Elladan's eyes. "And that would be?"
"There are two vacant spots available for you both in our grandparent's private baths."
Char looked quite gleeful about the idea while Haldir only looked mortified. "No, we could not... we..."
"Haldir! You both well deserve it," Celeborn interrupted his protests. "And do use the door this time."
The March Warden spun around. "How do you know we didn't?"
Galadriel's bell-like laugh rang out. "We were passing by just as you were entering. I'm impress that you were able to scale the tree so well, Charlene."
"Er... well, I had a lot of help."
Haldir looked more embarrassed by the second. "Can we sit down, now?"
Elladan was quite amused by this. "But, of course."
Haldir immediately found his seat, but Char stayed where she was. "Um... actually we didn't find everything... as I noticed not everybody else did when you were calling things off. Obviously we don't have Sauron's Ring."
The Twins laughed. "Do not worry yourself about it. We just thought it would be funny to add some impossible to get items... to see if anybody would protest or something, but alas, nobody has." Elladan shrugged. "Perhaps we shall have to add a balrog to it next time."
Char's jaw dropped. "How did you know about that?"
"Can you keep a secret?"
"Of course."
"So can I?"
"What an imp you are!"
"A what?" Elladan was quite perplexed by the term.
"I can keep a secret, too." Char took her sweet time getting to her seat.
"And last but not least, Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel."
Celeborn carried deftly in his hands Legolas' Elven knives while Galadriel carried their pouchful of other items.
"And for your gift, may we present you with the remainder of the day all to yourselves." Elladan motioned to someone and another Elf approached leading a horse, complete with a packed picnic.
Celeborn absolutely beamed. "Oh, look, when was the last time we had a day, an entire day, all to ourselves?"
"It has been far too long," answered Galadriel.
Celeborn held out his hands. "Well, come then, let us take advantage of this gift bestowed by our thoughtful grandsons." He easily hoisted Galadriel up onto the horse's back, soon joining her. With a smile and a wish that everyone enjoyed themselves they galloped off.
Haldir worriedly watched them leave. "Why wasn't I told about this "gift?" They should have an escort."
Elladan and Elrohir, obviously having predicted such a reaction, joined Haldir, one at each side. "Relax, Haldir. Things have been well taken care of. Our father assembled a small party of the Galadrim to meet them at the gates and escort them to wherever they wanted to go. They will still be left to themselves once they reach their destination but they will be protected."
Haldir didn't look too convinced but didn't protest.
"Besides, we have our gift to take advantage of," Char reminded him. "So, come on, let's go take advantage. I can teach you how to play Marco Polo."
"Play what?"
"Marco polo."
"Well, can't I just..."
"No!" She began dragging him off.
"Wait, we don't know who won and what about my things?"
Elrohir patted him on the back. "Your things will be returned to their rightful places and nobody wins... or rather, everybody does. We have concluded that it was a draw."
"How did you conclude that?"
The Twins looked at each other. "Are you questioning our judgement?" Elladan looked slightly insulted.
Haldir mumbled a, "No," and allowed himself to be dragged off.
"All right!" Char exclaimed with a grin. "Time to show you where to leave your job! Luxury bathroom here we come!"
